People keep saying Matthews is injured but...Matthews' 2 goals in his last 11 is actually an improvement over the one goal he has in the 10 games before that (where he wasnt injured). So if anything his injury has nearly doubled his goalscoring output.
There really is no excuse for Matthews at this point. This season hes injured sure, but hes scoring more than usual and only like 2 goals off of where he averages for his career in the playoffs, which is to say that hes been absolutely horrible. Hes barely a top 20 center in the playoffs by goals per game since he came in. By most accounts he should be a top 3-5 center at the thing hes literally best at in the world right?
Ovechkin was number one in regular season scoring and playoff scoring over the same span in his career (for players with over 25 playoff games). Until Matthews starts actually playing with playoff intensity and scoring the narrative is not going to go away, especially when Toronto fans and media want to talk about him as an all time great or have him in a top 3 or top 5 in the league conversation. Its not just bias against the guy, if Mackinnon or McDavid or Draisaitl put up numbers like that and were that bad on the eye test then it would be a story as well.
As for the game... I dont even know what to say, like I havent seen a team that flat and stay that flat for an entire playoff game at HOME like I did there. It was complete domination. If anything the score flatters the Leafs because Woll made some fantastic saves early on. Hard to imagine that Florida at home with last change are at a disadvantage in game 6. Leafs are good enough to win it for sure but thats a tall task... Might just be over. Even though I want the Panthers to win I cant say I am happy to see Marchand enjoying himself XD
