So Grigorenko played with Kucherov in the MHL and on Team Russia at WJC and had a great chemistry. Another winger on that line was Gusev, who's a Tampa prospect and one of the KHL top scorers.

Grigorenko is younger and way cheaper, than Johnson. And Johnson is obviously a better player right now. But with Tampa's cap situation, they will lose him or Palat anyway, so to get a full Russian line, where all three are close friends and are on the same page as to understanding of hockey and everything would be a nice alternative.

Avs have pretty much no cap and don't need a center already having Duchene and Mackinnon.

Also Grigs would be a very weird player to target if you were planning to move a player of Johnsons caliber.

Also no to mention TBL are going all in this season and have decided to worry about the cap when it comes. Its why they resigned both Stammer and Killorn and didn't trade Bishop when they had the chance.

Pretty much this...

Grigorenko's value nowhere near approaches Johnson's right now, and the Avs really don't have the impetus or room to add what it would take to even consider getting a deal done. Even if Tampa decides to move on from Johnson due to cap reasons (which wouldn't happen this year regardless), I imagine they could target a much better young forward.

He has a lot of talent and it looks like starting to play as a player, who once was considered as a top prospect. And as I said, getting him, Kucherov and Gusev together can potentially provide Tampa with a very interesting line, which will be way cheaper than Triplets for awhile.

This really depends on how the Avs intend to utilize Duchene and MacKinnon. If they're going to play with each other on a line and leaving Soderberg as the 2c (and then exposing him at the expansion draft), I would honestly be fine with a basis of this. The problem though rests in the quality of wings the Avs have, not centers. So while it's not an awful basis, I also don't see it making a lot of sense given the needs for either team. Drouin would be a more appealing target in that regard.

the plus would have to be immense. start with the avs 1st and then add

also johnson is easily gonna be protected.

Stamkos,Callahan,Filpulla, Johnson,Palat,Kucherov,Drouin.

So you'd leave Killorn exposed?

Kuch doesn't have a deal currently either, so you're presuming he's on the roster when he may not be.

I can't see Tampa trading Johnson with Grigorenko being the main piece coming back. Avs would need to add alot, and i think Tampa would ask for Rantanen.

Which is where the Avs would balk, well I don't think they'd be inquiring about Tyler Johnson in the first place as a center is the last thing they need.

Avs need wingers.

Kuch will be on the roster for years to come and yes, Killer will probably be left exposed.

I'll believe Kuch is gonna be on the roster for a while when he has a deal. Sucks they're losing Bishop, but they have such little space to give raises to Drouin, Johnson, and Palat that I think they're gonna end up having to trade one of them. If Killorn gets claimed, that'd be a bonus for them.

Colorado needs to stand Pat. Johnson is a fine player. But I'm not trading rants and grigs for him. Rants and grigs fill in quality depth.

If we do have to trade one, there's no reason to make that trade now. Let's see how the season plays out and reassess.

All reports are saying Johnson is healthy for the first time in about a year. Let's see if he can get back to 14/15 form, and (maybe more importantly) STAY healthy, before we sell him off.

FYI, Callahan has a NMC so he's automatically protected. You should inform yourself before laughing at other posters.

I really don't understand why TB would be targeting Grigorenko. The OP mentioned in another thread he'd like to see an old MHL line reunited, but I don't think it would serve the TB Lightning at all.

I didn't say Johnson should be exposed. Was curious about Killorn as I don't know how TB fans view him. I wasn't a fan of his contract, but I never really watched him either.

I think he'd be a good claim for a new team regardless.

I would say a majority of us feel like he'll be exposed to Vegas.
