Simply, he needs to be better. It can't just be the step behind in skating, he is invisible most nights or being hemmed in his zone when he's out there.

Something needs to jump start this guy, we need the whole team humming or we have no chance.

Nylander also needs to get going, i hate messing with the chemistry of Matthews and Marner, but if we're not rolling 4 solid lines and 3 solid scoring opportunities we have no chance, its almost time to play him with Marner again to see if we can get him going.

I'm not arguing with you. He seems very comfortable with his life in Toronto - for now. But others have mentioned the possibility of the media making it unbearable for him. Though he'd probably like to ride off into the sunset as a Leaf, there might be some rough waters ahead that make that difficult?

Lastly he wants to win in his hometown, there isn't a scenario where he would realistically waive. he's more than likely taking the spezza deal once his contract is up.

well his kids are like 2 and 1 years old, you don't think his family has already been exposed to this negativity? People have been calling him overrated since Junior, calling him a selfish (do what I need to do player) since his Oshawa Generals days. People blame him for London not winning the OHL Championship lol, even though his numbers were insane during that run and Windsor was just the best team in the OHL.

The problem is the delta between 44th in scoring and 5th overall in cap hit.

It depends, but considering the strong adds the Leafs have been able to find when dumpster diving at the league minimum it definitely bodes well for their ability to find guys with more force in their game at a higher price point.

The other way to look at it is that Tavares has the 4th highest aav of all forwards and wasn't even in the top 40 in points. It's not good...

He is still tradable without retaining because he was so front loaded that he's made most of his contract in terms of REAL dollars. So poor teams with cap space would want him.

There's not a single chance in hell he'd wave that nmc thought. Not even a semblance of a chance.

Sucks how poorly he’s aging compared to the likes of Sid, Ovi, Stamkos, etc. I mean f*** Stamkos just hit 100 points, Ovechkin hit 90 and 50 goals. Crosby was well over a PPG.

He had 39 5 v 5 points 26 primary points
15 G 11 A

He had 13 secondary assists 5 on 5 which was the 15 most in the league and 7th most among centers

Tavares ranked 95th among forwards in points per 60 mins

35th in points per 60 mins among centers

He produced as a low end #1/high end #2 center

I've defended John a lot over the last few years, but I feel like I've run out of excuses.

It's time to move him to the wing after the faceoff. He can't drive play, and he can't defend.

I want to see the move to wing this offseason, unless he somehow flips the script and become 2019 JT overnight.

My money's on JT being demoted to the 4th line by the time this series ends before he turns back into 2019 JT.
