Perspective from a Sens fan: unless a new ow er comes and wants to flash money around, it won't happen.

Sens need to sign Norris this year and Stützle next year, and I would imagine the plan is to roll with them as the 1-2 centres for the next 7+ years.

Unless JT is willing to play wing, I don't think it's a fit.
Yeah, it's just wishful thinking on our part.

7.95 x 3 with 7.04 paid by the Leafs on July 1st. So 16.81 over the next 3 years (averages out to 5.6 per year).

There'd be interest, no need to retain - whether or not Tavares would waive or Dubas would even ask is the real question.
I am assuming this only becomes realistic once Dubas is relieved, whenever that may happen. I think he sinks or swims with these 4.

Bunting Matthews Marner
Mikheyev _______ Nylander
Engvall Kampf Kase
Clifford _______ Blackwell
Simmonds

Reilly Brodie
Giordano Liljegren
Muzzin Holl
Sandin

________
Campbell

Mrazek Kerfoot Tavares gone would be a lot of cap space to play with.

Without Tavares on the faceoff dot and sitting in front of the net on the PP this series would be over already. Don't measure all value by points.

Damn whos gonna tell everyone in here that Tavares isnt being traded?

Tavare was 44th in the NHL in points.. he'd be the 2nd best player on most teams... But people here are talking about "retaining" to take on bad contracts to trade him

And these are the same ppl who knock analytics and say "their eyes!!" are good at analyzing talent. Evidently not.

You guys are kidding yourselves if you think he'll be demoted to the 4th line. Could always give 34/88 & 91/16 a shot, since we know it works. Or just go back to game one lineup with Bunting in for Clifford/Simmonds.

Isn't retaining a consideration because of JT's NMC? Yeah, Seattle could easily take on JT's contract - and might. But it seems unlikely he'd sign off on being traded there.

His points totals are misleading. He plays behind the best scorer in the league, a top 3 playmaker and other very good offensive talents. Put him as a number 1 centre on most teams and he won't have the same impact.

Pretty much the 44th best player in this series.

Outside of year 7 of his contract to chase a Cup because we were out of it, him waiving for anything seems very unlikely to me.
I'm not arguing with you. He seems very comfortable with his life in Toronto - for now. But others have mentioned the possibility of the media making it unbearable for him. Though he'd probably like to ride off into the sunset as a Leaf, there might be some rough waters ahead that make that difficult?

Life is unpredictable, and there could be a series of events leading to a critical mass where he decides to waive. But I wouldn't bet on it.

$11 million a year for a FOGO? . . . to mix a few sports together since he played so much lax too

The post you were criticizing was made Dec 2/21, when his play had him being considered a possible Olympic player for Canada. It also dealt with the issue of the entire C groups proficiency at FOs.

I wasn't criticizing it, I was having a little fun since he and his uncle are so into the sport. This world needs to get some humor back into their lives . . .

JT could win 100% of his faceoffs and the remaining 5 on 5 play wouldn’t give us sufficient value on his cap hit.

The post you’re referencing was made on Dec 2/21 and dealt with the team success at faceoffs. It was not meant to promote Tavares, it was a response to another’s curiosity about our C groups abilities.

Oh I wasn’t being argumentative, just even if Tavares was perfect in the FO circle it doesn’t cover up for his quality of everything else.
