If there's one really good thing torts has done so far in his time here it's develop young defensemen that have had high potential and were considered to have their development stagnated....

We've seen it with McDonagh when he came from Montreal, Sauer, and Stralman... He's even turned Eminger and Gilroy into serviceable dmen

He will be a good player for us. Not holding my breath but imagine we get Sauer back too... That would be a sick top 7 with Staal, Girardi, McDonagh, Del Zotto, Sauer, Moore and Stralman

No Big Mac?

I agree, hes the future and stralman is a stop gap and sauer is up in the air.. i hope he comes back.. if he was here wed by far have the best d in the league without question..

Mcd-Girardi
Staal-MDZ
Moore-Sauer/McIrath/Stralman

looks amazing to me..

Moore is a McDonagh-type. Hope he can be as good, but even if he's a little worse, it's still a huge pickup for us. He's the type that can become top-4.

He gave us something like 16 minutes of good defense tonight and even scored a goal. When Staal gets back, this guy is a damn good #6 (right now).

Was thinking the same thing.

Girardi - McDonagh
Staal - Del Zotto
Stralman - Moore

Eminger, Gilroy, Hamrlik. (Im higher on Eminger, but all 3 should sit)

Thats a third pairing you can trust out there and take some time off of the top 2 pairings, which was a big problem last year and of course this year with Staal out

Can't wait until McIlrath is here. Good, young d-corps.

Still need to see more minutes from this kid but i did like his skating ability and he showed some toughness in spots. I feel like hes definitely got some talent, and considering how the Rangers organization has groomed their young defenseman, having another one is a good thing.

I think people forget just how young he is because he has so much NHL experience already. 22. That's one year older than McIlrath. Same draft year as Kreider. Both were considered very raw in their draft year.

Wow. My bad, knew I was missing someone.

Talk about defensive depth. That's 8 really solid defenseman if everything works out our way.

We could really spread out the minutes on the backend

This makes me wish we move DZ in a ROR type deal.

Don't get me wrong, I love DZ, but he's a bit redundant here. He's great defensively and plays with snarl, but he never really developed into that PP offensive-dynamo we thought he would be.

If we could swap DZ for a ROR type top 6 young center (after we buy out Richie), we could be looking at a roster for next year of:

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Clowe-ROR-Callahan
Hagelin-Brassard-Zucc
Boyle-Powe-Asham

Staal-G
McD-Stralman
Moore-McIlrath

I put Kreider on the third originally, but that line (Kreider, Brassard and Zucc) would be horrid defensively.

In 2014-2015, our D could very well be:

McD-G
Staal-Moore
Skjei-McIlrath

That's one very good skater on every pairing. Exciting.

Del Zotto for Setoguchi and a pick either this offseason or the draft.

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Zuccarello-Richards-Setoguchi
Clowe-Brassard-Callahan
Kreider-Miller-Boyle
Asham

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Stralman
Moore-McIlrath
Eminger

Him flattening Cooke was pretty good

Yeah I knew, going back to his draft year, he was an excellent skater and I know he has a good frame, more wiry strong than a tank like McDonagh but he was surprisingly physical. I saw him at one point knock Morrow and Iginla down. (2) power forwards. I still can't believe he is just 22 with all of that NHL experience.

Moore does not make MDZ expendable.

Moore himself? No. Having the best goalie in the league while having no top-6 center for our second line once Richie is gone? I think having Hank allows us to take a small hit defensively to bring in a top-6 C that will grow with our team, especially since D is an organizational depth for us.

There are UFA options as well.

In 2013 there is who? Weiss? He's not somebody that will grow with our core, and he'll be paid a pretty penny. In 2014 there's Joe Pavs atm, and who knows if he'll be resigned.

The same people that recommend filling out our teams with FA are the same ones that hated Gabby for his salary, despite the fact that he was our only real successful FA signing to date. When will we learn?

Moore is a late 1990 kid. He missed the cutoff for the 2008 draft by a few months. The issue with the Rangers keeping all of their D is finances. We discussed it during the ROR stuff.

I hate to break it to you but a guy we trade for is JUST as likely to be (un)successful as any free agent we bring in. The only difference is that you lose assets along with the cap space when you trade for him, that in my opinion makes trading for a guy much more risky.

We all know the best way to fill spots is from organizational depth...just seems their time to win is now and the NYR don't have time to wait.

Richards doesn't have to be bought out until after 2014.
