why would the Ducks do this...

Seems especially bad from Anaheim

30 other teams would beat this offer

Ducks would need a first for taking Carter alone.

4 years left with a 6.4 million cap hit per season

Here are Gibson's stats over his last 195 games:

.902 SV%, 105 GA%, -29.8 GSAA

For comparison's sake, here are Binnington's stats over his last 190 games:

.903 V%, 104 GA%, -19.9 GSAA

30 teams don't want Gibson, he's closer to cap dump then he is valuable.

Gibson currently is close to being a cap dump. His numbers and contract length paint a very obvious picture. Anaheim can just keep him and that's fine, but Pittsburghs first is probably as good as it gets.
If he is so crappy why did a penguin fan propose acquiring him?

I'd assume because they haven't been keeping up on his poor play and are unaware of his terrible numbers. All Gibson has is his name from 4 to 5 years ago at this point.

I'd rather just pay Carter to sit in the press box than pay a 1st to dump him for a huge question mark signed to that deal.

No player is ever untradeable but I'm having a real difficult time envisioning any trade of Gibson where both teams would be happy.

Not giving up a 1st just to get rid of Carter, and to take on a much worse contract. Gibson's numbers since 2019 are that of a complete bum.

No smart GM would take him for free.

Yo, brosephs I looked at stats and he's straight up dog shit, bro.

What ?

Did I look at the team he plays for ?

Nah, bro, just the stats that back up my point, bro.

You'd be lucky to get Carter for him, bro.

Anyone who would pay a 1st for Gibson at this point is a fool.

I don't care how much Ducks fans overrate him, he hasn't been a good goalie since before COVID.

If he is so crappy why did a penguin fan propose acquiring him?

Because Penguins fans get aroused with the thought of acquiring Pittsburgh born players and Gibson is from Pittsburgh.

Our GM, at a recent season ticket holder event came out and said he sat down with Gibson and told him he wouldn't be moved, he has no interest in moving Gibson and cited his history with the Lightning and struggling to find a #1 goalie for years until they developed Vasilevsky as his reason for not wanting to open that hole up on this team. So most of us don't believe a trade will happen at all, and are perfectly ok with that

Yeah, GMs say that stuff.

An especially strange reasoning if you actually consider the reality.

Vasi took over the starting job in 2016-17. Prior to him they had Ben Bishop as their starter for 3 years where he posted 0.924, 0.916, and 0.926 seasons, including being a second team all-star who finished 2nd in Vezina voting. He literally LEAD THE LEAGUE in sv% and wins in those 3 years among starters.

If that is struggling to find a starter what is 0.900 John Gibson? More likely he knows there is no market for Gibson with his contract and so he's pretending he's making a choice to be responsible.

Oh look this again.

Another team wants Gibson.
Ducks fans say no.
Other fans say he is a cap dump or worth nothing.
Ducks fans disagree.
????
Repeat

I mean maybe that's just because Anaheim fans comically overrate Gibson and 99% of other fans don't want him.

One fan asking for Gibson doesn't mean that all fans of that team want him.

It’s pretty amazing the way John Gibson gets valued by a lot of people here as a sure fire first ballot hall of famer when he only ever ended up accomplishing but two things, Jack and shit, and Jack left town.

Say what you will about Gibson and the way fans rate or overrate him.

At this point in his career, what value does Jeff Carter have to a team that missed the Playoffs (other than his own team)? Surely with his contract he’s a negative in the current scenario and the pick isn’t enough incentive with the negative attached to Carter for the Ducks to ever consider this travesty.

It’s posts and responses like these that make me hope that the Penguins and their fans follow the Oilers or Calgarys game plan and lock themselves into a 5 year 5-6 million per year contract and enjoy some Jack Campbell or Markstron. Maybe that future Penguin this off-season will be Nedeljkovic or Blackwood. Lock those one of these guys long term and enjoy them for free!

You can keep Carter and buy him out next year. No one wants Penguin, and former King trash.
