How's Ek been playing back in Sweden? Hard to pinpoint a roster spot for him next year at C, unless BB/CF are serious about rolling 4 lines.

EliteProspects

3 points (2 goals, 1 assist) in 8 games with Farjestad.

4 points (3 goals, 1 assist) in 4 games with Sweden's U20 team.

Seems to have a nose for goal-scoring.

Giving this a bump. Has anyone watched any SHL? What's he been up to over there?

Haven't watched a game in a while. The point totals are low, but the good news is he's getting a lot of shots on goal (28 in 11 games) and he's logging a lot of minutes (18:36/g). I think especially the latter is what you want from him this season. Also of interest is 7 hits and 5 blocked shots.

Worth keeping in mind that even the league's top scorer is only a ppg, so there's just not a lot of scoring.

So it's a league full of defensively responsible Swedes?

^^I think we've seen enough proof that it is unlikely he will bust. I'd rather see him play 18 mins at home than 8 mins on the 4th line here.

As a Färjestad fan I feel I haven't done my job properly by reporting here. I don't watch every game, probably about half of them.

JEE is playing second line between FBK's best scorer last season and a playmaker. So his job is what it's supposed to be; annoying in front of the net and being in the right place at the right time. He also does a great job behind the net by keeping the defenders of the puck until he finds a good pass. He has had alot of chances infront of the net but just doesn't get it in. Also he plays second PP line and scored one last game.

I would like for him to shoot more from everywhere like we saw in jwc, and maybe be a little more "relaxed" with the puck. I don't really know how to explain it but sometimes it feels like he gets a bit stressed with the puck while entering the offensive zone and ****s it up. I would like to see more of the comfortable jwc-jee who entered the zone like a stallion and popped the puck in the net like it was nothing. Of course the competition is different but the self esteem isn't really there.

There isnt alot of scoring in SHL compared to NHL. I dont have any statistics to back this up but I also think the points are more distributed among the players, rather than a Crosby or Kane who gets most of the points. Also you are waaay more generous with second assists in NHL :D

SHL doesn't have secondary assists?

Yes they have, but from what I can tell it's easier to get secondary assist in NHL. An example is if a defender plays the puck out of the zone to attacker 1 who passes to attacker 2 and then back to attacker 1 who scores. The defender gets secondary assist. In SHL they scratched that type of assists some years ago and brought it back a few years later. So it should be possible, but sometimes it seems like dont really care about that type of assist. Also when they are in doubt if a player or an opponent was the last person on the puck they dont go out of their way to find out. Secondary assists just doesnt seem so important. Although they have gotten better in the last few years.

It's just how I experience it by watching the two leagues. No science behind me :D

Would be great if they decided that attacker 1 gets both the goal and secondary assist

Great game yesterday by Ek. Everything I complained about in the last post, he made up for in this game. Great puck control in the offensive zone with some really good passes that almost ended up in the net. He was at the right position several times in front of the net, but the passes from his teammates was horrible. Best of all was that he played with confidence. He even ended up with an ENG. Can't say much about his defence because his line played most of the minutes in the offensive zone. He played 15:39 min, some PP, no BP.

Btw, I got some gifs that I recorded in the period breaks. Don't know if it's anything to see but if you're interested I can post some JEE-highliht-gifs from the games that I watch. Keeps me busy during the commercial breaks :D

Here's a sample from a great shift by Ek when he was everywhere (the end of the gif got cut out for some reason).

Is there a chance he could rejoin the Wild in time for the playoffs after his Swedish team finishes their season?

I think it's theoretically possible, but would we want to burn a year on his ELC for that?

You're right. For some reason, I thought we had already burned the first year, but sent him back anyways. But I believe Fletcher has said in the past that it might be worth burning a year to get multiple player contracts staggered, so they don't all come up for new deals in the same year.

Depends on if Greenway and Kunin leave college after this year.

Tuch burned this year
JEE would burn next year
Kaprizov would burn the year after

Then it's just if both Greenway and Kunin are on par with Ek or if one goes that year and the other in Kaprizov's.
