Friend, I don't know how long you've been a fan, but I've heard the "wait and see" argument after seemingly awful decisions constantly for 30 years.

My patience has run out. Not waiting anymore.
You remind me of the purple haired folks who shriek “if so and so gets elected, I’m leaving the country!” They never leave. And you won’t walk away from the Habs. But do feel free to go root for the Leafs. Ta ta.

You remind me of the kind of guy that gets cheated on by his wife and wants to talk it out afterwards.

Anyone who had expectations of a 1st or 2nd for him was based on a 100% healthy Edmundson. He's been playing with a broken back for the last two years, it's not the same Edmundson anymore. If anything, based on recent trends, there's a significant risk that he gets injured again during the season and return nothing at all.

If you really think today's Edmundson with his injury issues could still fetch you a 1st round pick in the current market, fact is that you are the one with the rose colored glasses.

I think you wait until you can get a second... You shouldn't have FOMO over a third round pick.

Wasn't expecting to see this when I logged in but a pretty meh return especially with 50% retention but whatever. I guess possible injury concerns certainly didn't help his value here. Anyway good luck Big Ed.

They did that during the regular season and his back flared up before the deadline.

I can only imagine the whining you would do if this happened again right before we lose him to free agency.

Competent people succeed.

Losers make excuses.

Injuries ruined his trade value, but we make room for the kids. It had to happen at this point. Would be great if we could somehow shed Hoffman next. I'd attach a mid round pick to make it happen.

This is the correct answer
Sincere apologies, I had to edit out my previous reply as it was meant for another thread.

Edmundson was a huge part of our top 4 D-Core for our Cup Finals (2021)...won't forget that.

Cheers to Joel for that. Wish him the best in Wash.

3rd and a 7th...happy with that (even with a 50% retention 'cause Wash was probably offering a 5th and 7th...the 50% changed the 5th to a 3rd probably...guessing!). And, happy the picks are for 2024 and not 2025 or 2026.

2024: we have now two or three 3rd rnd picks?

Future young D-Core looks great:
Reinbacher
Guhle
Barron
Hutson
Mailloux
Xhekaj
Struble (underrated)
Engstrom

Who cares? Losing out on a third isn't the end of the world.
Just more panic, selling this low on an asset is wildly bad asset management. They've gone off the rails.

Selling damaged goods like Edmundson for a 3rd + 7th round picks was far from a panic move; it’s quite rational actually.

His health is questionable at best, meaning there’s a tangible risk he fetches nothing if kept until TDL 2024. Keeping him until TDL also entails he’s showcased and thus takes valuable icetime away from the younger, better and cheaper NHL-caliber LHDs already on the roster.

So it was much more logical to trade Edmundson at the first opportunity and kill two birds with one stone doing so: obtaining palatable assets and, more importantly, use his projected icetime to develop/showcase* the young D instead.

*With Hutson-Reinbacher and Engstrom-Mailloux projected to come up on D in the next few years, it will definitely not hurt to raise Harris-Kovacevic (and Barron’s?) value as much as possible so they become trade assets themselves!

Our blueline needs a decent vet presence, Savard and Mattheson are not reliable at all. Oh but they speak the right language, I forgot, that is the key ingredient here. Harris should be in the AHL anyways
Matheson came back after recovering from an injury. He then put 34 points in 48 games and was +7 , playing for one of the worst NHL team and you think that he's not reliable ??? what does he need to do to satisfy your expectations of a player reliable ?

Sorry to be rude but your little allusion about their language was absolutely unnecessary, out of context, out of place, a false narrative just to provoque or to victimise yourself. Could you respect us by going away when you need to evacuate your frustrations about the Québécois .

Respectfully my esteemed colleague, not completely.

Drouin was also derailed by his refusal to change his ways as with Kirk Muller having tried for 3 years to get him to play in the slot and spend less time in the perimeter. That’s a conscious decision Drouin made, one that he had control over. Why he chose to not abide by Muller’s teachings, is disturbing and only hurt him.

I agree with what you said but I don't think you meant to reply to me lol. I was just agreeing that Edmundson's trade value was diminished by chronic back ailments and we needed to make room for the kids.

This is a thread about the trade of Edmunston and he was saying that we won't get a second and that it will give minutes to the young horses. Absolutley no link with Drouin

Nobody was going to give a 2nd, we would have needed to play and we couldn't start the season with 8 dmen. The consternation over not getting a 2nd is asinine.

Then trade another asset to get value back. Savard or Harris. It's not good asset management to trade something at its lowest value.

Again, as always. Losers get third round picks for formerly valuable assets. Winners go home and f*** the prom queen.

Producing offensively doesn't make a dman reliable. It's not linked, at all.

Karlsson if a great offensively gifted dman, won the Norris, but he's far from reliable.

And what makes you think that value would be higher later? With all his back problems there is actually a bigger chance that his value would be even lower later after multiple injuries this season.
