Nice to see him slowly getting his things together. He said in an interview last summer here in his hometown that he's trying to get back those elements of his offensive game that he had when he was drafted.

I think he was always most likely to be a solid 2nd liner with a small possibility to become a 1st line star (no franchise stuff tho). He was likely to be in the opening night roster of Sabres right away from the camp in 2013, but was injured in his last exhibition game. After that it took him all the way to WPG and change in style of play to get into NHL lineup regularily.

It has been speculated that the wrist injury he got in that camp wasn't treated properly and that it should have had a surgery right away.

Anyway, he was drafted as a skilled goal scoring winger (he broke the points records in Liiga as a 17 year old if I remember correctly), but something happened after that injury. So I' m just hoping he starts to net his golden chances more (he had a wicked wrister and was lethal between the dots, especially on PP).

Edit: and in WPG he was already setting his linemates golden opportunities 1 to 5 times a game, but he was playing with Matthias and Lowry and whatnot, so that was a factor to his point totals too. Wasn't scoring his own chances either though.
He's going to be able to showcase his skill a lot more now that he's with Suzuki and Kovy. That line is "pretty nuts".

If you pro-rate his production over 82 games he would be on pace for over a 50 pt season without the injuries. With his size + defence, this kind of player is invaluable

I absolutely love him, I have from the start when a lot of people were crapping on him, he just flashes so many good things, it's not hard to think he could produce even more if something clicks.

So, just to confirm..... he very well could have had a wrist injury to start the season and he came through with goals from the slot, well, just like that?! He seemed like our best scorer for a stretch.

The man is a horse. A proper Horseman. Flair would be proud. Wooooo.

Sorry, a very confusing post I see (now)

I meant that prior to that training camp (where the injury occurred) he was a really efficient goal scorer, but after that injury (in that camp) he never got it back (the scoring touch) even in the AHL (what was Buffalo's AHL team?).

I should probably start making several posts instead of one long ones, but that would be spamming :D

The guy had a dominant game. Imposed his will on the forecheck, takeaway machine, 2 breakaways on the PK and scored the goal that was the turning point in the game.

I HOPE Bergevin gives him a 5-6 years contract prolongation on July 1st. He brings something to that team that nobody else does.

Normally around 24, 25 the player you have is the player you have. He might be evolving. I would also say 2nd line RW is his.

I hope our new GM looks to extend him early, like in July early

I like it. They've been so good and Armia is the glue that holds it together as Poulin said before the game.

I don't mind Poulin, but this new play by play guy is cringeworthy at best. Still better than Bartlett @ Sportsnet, but really bottom of the barrel coverage for the Habs all around.

100% agree. I remember the expert basement GM fans last year saying to get rid of him? What a joke! Armia is a beast and we need pieces like him. Poehling is on his track IMO but needs maturity time. Lehkonen is also another guy just touching prime years and growing in front of our eyes!

Bergevin would be smart to extend players as much as he can this summer. Cause if he leaves his "To Do" list to be large in the 21 off season, it's not smart. He had a massive to do list in the 2017 off season and failed on several levels. Keep the list short and lock up players when you can... especially any player you feel is part of the 3+ year core.

Turns out not having an all 5 ft 9 and under offense can be a good thing after all.

In which capacity has he influenced KK? His mentoring has not been beneficial to KK play.

Kotkaniemi said so himself that having Armia has been a dream come true and has helped him a lot in adapting to the NHL.
The results aren't there for a multitude of reasons (some more obvious than others) but none the less it for sure helps having a more mature player from his native country who also had a lot of expectations after his stellar play in Liiga.

Got it! not really an influence though, more like a security blanket. No doubt changing cultures is formidable, but all depends on each person, some welcome it and thrive, others are more introverted, etc and have a need for a more sheltering and guidance.
