Panik then introduces his new bench coach, Carlos Montoya who looks somewhat similar to Charlie but is obviously different because Carlos wears sunglasses and has an 80s Tom Selleck mustache so they can't be the same person.

Better than Charles Montana our new 3rd baseman

Im loving the trade options.
All this depth up the middle should be able to headline a nice package.

I'm not convinced they're going to swing a big trade yet, but even just a couple solid moves to patch up the pen would make this team so good. I just don't want to see them wait until the deadline and keep losing ground.

I agree they are 90 % there.
Just need 2 back end relievers and we are probably a playoff team. Hatch, Borucki and 1 trade for a back end closer or starter would probably do it. But the problem is if they cost them selves the season over the next 2 weeks it won’t matter what they do. We can’t keep losing 1 run games they are such momentum killers.

It's another way in which this team reminds me of pre-deadline 2015: lots of really solid, no-doubt wins, and lots of tight, painful losses. And I think people are starting to underestimate the abilities of the team because the losses seem so much bigger than they actually are. They really don't have many holes, it's just that the one big one (the pen) has cost them in a lot of those tight games.

Most teams floating around .500 don't have such an easy fix to make themselves a contender over the next month.

What does everyone think of Pat's idea to grab Harvey from the Orioles and turn him into a max effort reliever? Doesn't seem like a terrible idea. Probably could grab him for someone like Zeuch. If you're going to put out a crappy pitcher every 5 days, might as well put out a young guy who could potentially get better.

Yeah, the Jays are in a weird place where just getting a few injured guys back can potentially solve their one biggest weakness, although I'm aware a few of those guys are gone for the long term. It feels a little wasteful to start trading prospects when you already have everything you need, you just need them to get healthy. Of course, you also don't want to fall too far behind, either.

Thankfully, they've got a lot of secondary guys like Smith, Capra, and Taylor putting up big enough numbers that they might be able to entice a few GMS to swing a deal, although if Taylor is a good fielder (I have no idea; would be nice to have a good outfield prospect, too) I'd rather keep him around.

Unfortunately SWR got crushed today, 6ER in 2.2 with 7(!!!!) walks. Gonna ruin his pretty ERA/FIP for sure.

One last look before blowup:

30IP, 14.4 K/9, 3.3 BB/9, 2.70 ERA, 2.02 FIP

Sigh.

Yeah, time is of the essence and it takes two to tango…there’s just enough quality at premium spots to think some good pitching can be had while still being stacked up the middle.
I’d take a good trade or two, and some good health too.

Yeah. Happens.

Meanwhile, our very own AA version of murderers row is being held to one hit. Rough day in NH.
