"We took two of three from (the Yankees), two of three from these guys, and we're talking about one bad inning," Montoyo said, according to Mike Wilner of The Toronto Star. "Yeah, maybe we could take (Chatwood) out, all that stuff, but he's one of our best relievers."

If this is his thought process, why take Chatwood out at all then? If he is one of your best relievers why can he walk 3 batters in a row? Why is 4 the cutoff? Let him walk 5 because after all “he is one of our best relievers”

"You've got to trust somebody one time and let him get out of trouble," Montoyo added. "But again, it was a great road trip, we did an outstanding job."

Just clueless. With this logic he should have just forfeited the 3rd game if he doesnt think this game matters.

If he doesn’t understand why the fans and media are upset he isn’t a MLB manager

he would rather be liked by his players than win games. at least it seems that way to me.

Thats pretty much him deflecting blame.

I've come to accept Montoyo's stupidity. Today was the first time it's actually gotten me upset in a while. He's going to do stupid things. I'm going to live with it until he's fired, hopefully at the end of the year. I can handle that. Today was just indefensible, and literally made me furious.

A few weeks ago I was somewhat praising Montoyo for not making really dumb decisions.

Today, bringing in Chatwood made sense but he looked awful. It made no sense bringing him out again in the 7th. Not only does he bring him out, but he also doesn't have anyone ready for a potential screw-up. He waits until he walks three guys.

"you have got to trust somebody one time and let him get out of trouble" lol...thats all fine and good, but why in holy hell did he not have somebody warming up????? its just beyond stupid.

dude waited until their best player had to just put the ball in play to lose, idiotic.

What's weird is he often is quick to pull guys.

Does he not remember the Rays outing (when he pulled Chatwood) last week? Even in the Yankees series Chatwood struggled with his command. This was not the time to allow him to figure things out. 9 walks and 0 strikeouts in his last 3.1 innings.

he pulls starters so quick, like in game one...more dumb decisions. what did our starter have 67 pitches? pulls him..uses 2 relievers needlessly then compounds it with this in the second game. dude is out to lunch.

its hilarious, he always pulls starters so quickly, then has to overtax the bullpen..which he does in games we are winning comfortably, then in tight games he does stuff like this lol.

I get the logic of letting your guys work through the issues. But dude, it was a one run game and he threw 25 balls ffs.

Exactly. When someone is struggling that much, he can work through his issues in low leverage situations and have a super short leash (and a damn backup plan) in a one-run game.

Me too. People overreact to every little decision he makes, but he's been pretty good. Lineups have been great and the bullpen usage has been about as good as could be expected given what he's been working with. He loves sac bunts too much, particularly the odd obsession with two-strike ones, but I can live with that if he's as good behind closed doors as the organization (and players, from everything we've heard) believe he is.

But then every once in a while he does something like this where he's actually just throwing away a winnable game and I wonder how it's possible he's spent so much time running professional baseball teams, let alone Major League teams.

Gibby? You old geezers living in the past smh.

Clearly what we need is a manager who's young and hip and knows what's up.

....what's Cito Gaston up to these days?
