Winning hides a lot.

Another sub1 xG game.

Imagine we can be good 5v5... with effort, the kids, the PP and Godmode Shesty.
Leafs defended well for most of the game but also rarely looked very threatening for most of the game. Rangers sat back a lot in the 3rd and just chipped the puck out.

Kinda boring game

One of those "actually a good win and played well to beat one of the best teams in the league but it was also boring and they sat on a lead and a bad bounce could have been the difference" games.

I wonder if he's still going out with Donna Pinciotti.

Great all around effort. The guys are playing a little looser. I believe there was too much overall pressure to start the year based on last years success and they were gripping their sticks to tight. Tonight looked like they had some fun. Oh and for those joining the Vesey bandwagon glad to have you aboard , it was lonely with just a few of us. AND no, I'm not saying he's the next coming of anybody.........BUT HE'S ONE HELLUVA USEFUL $750,000 PTO that can be used in multiple roles including PK for a team that was struggling with depth and max'd at cap space. He's brought a full honest effort and earned everything and his success is a good influence on the team.

Overall the Rangers played very strong team defense all over the ice tonight. Igor was awesome, but this wasn't a game with a million chances against where he had to be superhuman. He as great, but the team did a very good job all over the ice.

Laf has the most invisible 0.45 ppg ever.

Man if this kid could turn it on like Kakko look out.
He's been neutered of all the moxy and attitude he had in juniors. Imagine if the Rangers organization didn't gag and rope him and drag him into a dark cellar and cut his nuts off... or force him to submit to Kreider Zibanejad love affair or force him to defer to Panarin and Goodrow... kid might actually be a hockey player right now instead of a kid trying to fit in with the cool crowd.

What the organization should have done was put the f***ing C on his chest and force him to become a man and leader right away like every other organization does with their #1 overall pick. And tell him to f*** everyone else when he has the puck on his stick to be selfish and drive the net and shoot... instead now when he has the puck you hear his brain say "oh shit I've had the puck more than 1 millisecond I have to pass" and that's why turnovers happen.

This organization cares more about reviving Vesey and Trocheck, and getting Goodrow ice time instead of developing the two players (Laf and Kakko) that could tilt this franchise into actual real contenders for the next decade instead of the pretenders they are.

Watch when Othmann arrives they'll suck the life-force right out of him and make him look like a scared puppy in record time.

Idk how you can take Kravtsov out of the lineup. He's very deserving of being an everyday player, even if it is going to be on the 4th line.

He should be up with Panarin and Mika with Goody down on the 4th line, but baby steps with Gallant. Keep Kravtsov in.

It's frustrating because he does a lot of good things, but he seems to be holding back, whether by choice or by physical limitations, at times. To me, it's mentality. Every time he gets the puck with space he slows down and waits. He's not a burner obviously, but he's "playing" slow so it's making him less effective at times, particularly in transition. He's not a great skater, but he's a good enough skater to make things happen, I feel like his holding back and hesitating is 100% mental.

We won and the kids got points on the PP, so I'm not going to point out that they still only played 14 minutes...
One of the kids played 24.27 minutes which is more than any other skater including Leafs. 2 more of the kids over 22 minutes 2nd and fourth most of any Ranger. AND it was much closer to 15 minutes for the other 3 kids your talking about.

When Vesey is decisive and doesn't hesitate he's a very effective player. There were still times where he has the puck in the offensive zone and he's already hesitating and doubling back when there's a clear line to do something else which can be frustrating, but I like him on that line. He's a good player overall and a very good bargain. I liked Vatrano a lot but I take Vesey at 750k over Vatrano at 3.65m every single second of the day and every day of the week.

Rangers never had an issue developing defensemen. They're not a part of this conversation. And closer to 15 minutes is still pathetic usage of 1 and 2 overall picks in their D+3 and up seasons.

There's getting frustrated with the lack of opportunities for Laf and then there is thinking he should have been named captain.

By the way.. we already saw a 1st overall pick drafted to the exact opposite situation Laf is in.. where he was fed unlimited offensive minutes with no veteran insulation and no defensive accountability.

His name was Nail Yakupov.

The Rangers are doing the exact opposite of what the first iteration of the Oilers rebuild failed in.

It's more the Bruins approach with Pastrnak who languished in the 4th line on Chris Kelly's wing or the first two years of his career.

I like that approach far better.

It's really hard to watch. He has to stop with the "slow down & make a clever pass" thing. It just doesn't work for him. His giveaways in this mode led to a lot of zone time for the Leafs, and practically none for his line. No Kakko bossing the puck around. Just defend defend defend - get a rush going - giveaway in the neutral zone.

Laf needs help. He needs good coaching. Wonder if he's getting it.

I guess we’re onto Laf now that Chytil & Kakko look like players. He even had a PP Point tonight! Have some patience with 21-22 year olds and enjoy our 5th straight win.

Here
Laf made a number of bad plays to mess up rushes for his line. Always trying to pass to someone way over there. Wish he'd carry or dump it more often. Bad decisions. Needs coaching.
And that hop in his skating stride was really prevalent tonight.

In the playoffs last year when he was going at a different level there was very little of that.

He kept his feet moving, was lower in his stride with and without the puck. He’s too upright again and that usually occurs when you are thinking too much

He’s obviously not good, but Harpur was mostly fine tonight. I think he’s at least better than Tinordi was. Hajek has had good games but he’s had games where he single handidly leads to chances and extended momentum against because of tons of unforced errors and giveaways. Harpur didn’t have very many glaring turnovers or bad forced plays that Hajek is prone to.

Don’t get me wrong he’s not good at all, but compared to the unreliability of Hajek I might actually prefer him.

Imagine if we could just acquire a at minimum Braun level player for that 3LD slot? The D will be very good overall. Schneider has looked really good considering his age and experience level. Like really good. I think we forget he’s just 21 sometimes. He’s legitimately better than Trouba right now. He’s a really strong skater and he has really good smarts and he’s a good one on one defender. He still makes some young player mistakes but considering his age he’s damn good already. He’s really good at jumping into the rush and has strong instincts for when to activate in the offensive zone. I feel like how good he’s looked has flown really under the radar, probably because he’s had infrequent partners and at 21 he’s had to carry his pair. I really like this player.

And I mean, I guess credit to Gallant for putting PP2 out with a full minute to go on that PP. He doesn’t do that more often than not. Them moving the puck really well and actually scoring should make him more comfortable making that call going forward. It may be unfair they haven’t gotten more chances but if you score you’re going to get more.
