Yeah, it didn't make sense. Really infuriating how every game the team struggles to score Buch is the one to take the fall. He was actually playing pretty well, AV just decided the team's youngest player must be the one who takes the blame for the team not having any goals. Lets see if he'll now bump Buch down to the 4th line to start a game. If he does that and he's making him play with Pirri and Puempel or something like that, I'll get really mad.

Vesey played better last night, but finishing was brutal. At least he was noticeable. He played well, lets hope he continues playing well.

Vesey shouldn't have been on the fourth line either. He should've been on the third line with Grabner on the fourth line, and then when Hayes got injured, Vesey and Grabner could've both been on the third line. If he was so bad that you were worried about his production on the third line, he should've been sent down. Vesey has no use on the fourth line.

same can be said with buch which is frustrating

There is no way Grabner deserves to be on the 4th line.

If Vesey can't play on the 4th line and carry out the duties that come with it, he should be in Hartford, playing top-6 minutes and develop

Why are people even bringing up Buch or Vesey for the 4th line when we ALL know it should be Fast on that line. Why he is playing top 9 minutes is beyond me. Fast had more than double the minutes than Buch tonight :shakehead

Fast - Lindberg - Pump (switch them around for whatever works best)

It's not that difficult.

Listening to Joe trying to pump up Fast every shift is absolutely hilarious. Fast missed the puck next to the net and it went to Grabner and Joe said what an AMAZING play that was for Fast to let the puck go through him

Vesey looked good tonight . His line mates will help

I'd agree Fast should be 4th line but he's reliable defensively so will get bumped up if winning

I have no problem with that in the final 10 minutes or so in the game...just not all game

Both Vesey and Buchnevich are real NHL players. Neither should be in Hartford.

Going a little further---Vesey's run into the wall a bit that many college players do in their first pro season. He's used to playing on weekends and a lot more practice. Buchnevich on the other hand has a different issue--which is more about size and strength which affects his ability to fight for and win pucks. I would expect greater impact from both of them next year. Buchnevich IMO is a comparable player to Pastrnak and Pastrnak dealt with the same issues. Kuznetsov and Kucherov are other examples. Give them time and they'll be great. They both belong in the NHL but they both need to have their time and situations managed.

I agree, some of us said this about Vesey at the beginning of the season, most College guys need time to adjust based on the schedule alone.

The thing is, not much in Hartford to callup at this point anyway. Vesey will benefit regardless of his icetime.

That's not what I saw bud. I distinctly saw Jesper lift the Sabres players stick which allowed the puck to come in front of the net directly to Grabs. It was a HEADS UP PLAY. Regardless of where u think Fast should be playing, you shouldn't minimize a good play.

Okay, Joe.

From Brooks:

"It’s just that this is different than playing 30 games. Here we work out after games. In college, it was like, go do schoolwork, or my family or everyone’s family was at games. And we only played twice a week. So I’m still in the process of becoming a pro."

Good quote from Vesey. Really illustrates what a huge jump it can be from the NCAA to the pros. Bringing these kids along is a process, and not giving them opportunities along the way can absolutely ruin their confidence.

Don't remember what thread I mentioned it in, but yeah, that's the college schedule. You really don't push too hard during the week.

I've moved on to other things, but I'd still really like to see a study about 1st half vs 2nd half production for players who jump directly from NCAA to NHL. I know we all say the NCAA rookie wall exists, and it's a pretty cemented narrative, one which I subscribe to myself, but I'd still like to see the proof.

Confidence is huge in this game. The physical aspects of the game are needed but the mental make a huge difference as well.

I mean I get what you're saying, but isn't the player making note of it proof enough?

Mmmm.... yes and no.

This didn't impact Hayes at all.

In 14-15, Gaudreau had 35 points in 46 games pre All-Star, and 29 in 34 post All-Star.

I think it's a convenient excuse that makes a lot of sense. I just want to see it studied. I do have plans to do this eventually, and I'm kind of surprised it hasn't been done yet. (or it has, and I can't find it).
