Vesey has been willing to go to the net and try to cash in on low slot passes or cash in on rebounds. For the most part.

That's his game. He needs to play that game more, and needs better players on the ice with him to creat those opportunities.

Nothing wrong with that. He should learn to create his own opportunities, sure. But he's shown a willingness to get low and open and in the dirty areas so others don't have to.

Good on him for that.

Let me emphasize again just in case. There is nothing wrong about Vesey knowing how to get to the right areas and pot goals. Nothing at all. More often than not, that's what you need to teach players in the NHL.

I'm convinced in 2-3 years vesey will be our best forward when it comes to driving the net and net front presence

He will be our best forward when it comes to driving the net and net front presence in the offensive zone when we trade Nash away in February.

yes I agree - I think that is the best option at the moment to move him. Maybe Leafs need some veteran players like Nash?

The stats you were shown indicated that Vesey isnt creating much for himself regardless since all his goals have been tap-ins or rebounds except for one.

Is your assesment that the third line cant give Vesey rebounds or deflections? Who exctly do you want on the third line instead of Vesey then? A "better" t6 player that should carry the other two so Vesey can pad his stats against tougher matchups?

Vesey had an impressively bad month of January

-22.5 relxGF% (2nd worst only to M Staal)

-14.13% relCF%

No points at all.

I was going to come into this thread and append onto this that Vesey also only *attempted* 17 shots the entire month (10 on goal) during 5v5 play. And I was going to blast him for having such limited offense.

It was then that I realized that JT Miller recorded less attempts than that, somehow. 14 shot attempts in 130 minutes of 5v5 ice.

Naturally, as JT does, he scored on two of those attempts of which 8 were on goal.

Everything is a lie.

No disrespect intended but if you keep betting against JT Miller I think you are going to keep having to explain away all his production. JT was a good player last season. This season JT is a even better player. JT's positives far out weigh his negatives.

With the bye and the ASG this month, hopefully he has been able to recover a little bit from the rookie wall he's hit. 7 games in the last 21 days. Would be nice to see him get going early tonight.

Can move this to the Miller thread, but nothing in that post was intended as a shot at JT.

the

part was directed at myself.

He's shooting almost 19%

If Miller keeps up anywhere near his current production long-term, then we can say that he's a Patrick Kane or Alex Ovechkin level of offensive talent.

Those are the kinds of players who score barely touching the puck.

If you believe he is, then I hope you're right.

He screams Alex Tanguay to me, and idk why. He just has that knack for always sustaining a high shooting%, which I'm obviously ok with, but maybe he's just a statistical aberration and won't fit any models correctly?

This guy still on the team?

I kid. Hopefully the time off we've had recently is good for him and he comes out playing hard.

Mike Bossy shot around 21 or 22 percent for his whole career. Some guys are just more selective shooters than other guys or they have very good shooting skills. Former Ranger Steve Vickers often shot up close so he had a great shooting percentage but JT can shoot from anywhere inside the blue line. Mike Ridley was a selective high percentage shooter. So was Kisio. JT doesn't need to shoot 19% to be a good player. He is a very skilled guy. That will lead to production either in the form of goals, assists, or just helping others as long as he continues to show a good motor.

Yes, Mike Bossy. Mike Bossy. Best goals per game of all time Mike Bossy. Right.

Exactly my point.

Ridley and Kisio shot nowhere near what Miller is shooting if you adjust for era.

Nobody shoots THAT high in today's league.

What is your point? Is it all about shooting percentage? Last season and in this preseason we heard that stuff and it ended up 100% wrong. I could not care less if JT shoots 12% 14%, 16% or 18%. I know he will produce 45-60 points whether he shoots more, shoots, less, scores more, or assists more.

Amazing that you're somehow sure Miller will score 45-60 points when his career high is 43.

I see all the skating, shooting, passing, and vision skills I need to confidently predict that JT Miller will score somewhere in that range. The skills are there. As long as he keeps up a high motor he will be solid.
