When you actually look at 60%+ of his goals, they are off his body, stick, deflection. I know that is the role of a player in front of the net but it's sad when you realize how few goals he has actually got purely shooting the puck. Potential 8th straight scratch or is it only 7?
With Blidh back in PVD what's the opinion of the Board that Hayes plays against PITT?

I know nobody likes to hear this, but I thought Hayes played a decent game against Detroit.

Agree. He needs to work like that every game -- but not need 7 games in press box to light a fuse. He's not a rookie. Getting paid good money -- no excuse for not doing that all the time.

Yeah he did ,don't get why he can't do it more often. When he uses his size he can be a decent player, doesn't have to throw big hits or fight ,just use your size to win some puck battles.

...especially in your home town.

Agreed. Exactly and I would love to ask him that very question. What stopped you in the past from playing every game the way you played last night? Did sitting in the press box for 7 games motivate you Mr Hayes?

Thought it was interesting how Claude talked last night about how Jimmy has made changes in his lifestyle etc, gotta wonder what had happened to have him scratched the last 7 games!!

So if a guy has scored 29, he's basically a 30 goal scorer?

If you'd ever seen Hayes play before, you knew full well that his height and size has nothing to do with his game. He's the forward version of Hal Gill in that way.

If you score 29 in 72 games, you're "basically" a 30 goal scorer, yes. You're not a 30 goal scorer, but the potential is obviously there. Just as if Cam Neely had scored 49 instead of 50 in 44 games, he'd still be "basically" a 50 goal scorer that year, and clearly capable of potting 50 in 50 if circumstances align. For Jimmy, 19 goals in 72 games seems like it will remain his career year (the year before he only had 17 goal pace over 53 games, and he's dropped a lot in Boston).

Still, losing Savard's contract and the fact that Smith is on pace for 33 points (only slightly better than Hayes did last year) whilst getting a raise to $5M next year whereas Jimmy will probably be gone at least softens that blow.

Cannot believe Jimmy threw a punch tonight!! Must have worked on his boxing over the break!!

I thought the same thing during his fight. It legit looked like he had worked on it. I think he must have gotten quite a bit of ribbing after his first two hugfests and decided to do something about it.

This guy's best game and effort is still bad.Cannot see how Bruins can hold kids back for this guy .Does not say much for Bruins farm if he can hold down a spot with 2 goals all year

Give any young guy a chance in the bottom 6, it really cant be worse.

Marchand started there and this team needs more hustle and skill there.

I stated earlier the bottom 9 forwards have just over 60 goals this year, why not try something, anything to get production.

Jimmy hasn't scored a point in the last 20 games. Granted he was scratched for 7 straight. Wish they could just bring up one or two from PVD just so we could get a look!!
I'd Vegas doesn't take him I sure hope he's bought out this summer.

I truly don't know why he hasn't been placed on waivers yet. If he gets claimed its great and if he doesn't well if that doesn't send him a clear enough message then nothing ever will.

Brett Connolly scored his ninth goal for the Caps last night. Sweeney & Co. invested three years in Jimmy Hayes and sent Connolly packing after one?? Who is making the decisions on NHL talent?!?!

Hayes is honestly Sweeney's biggest "rookie mistake" as a GM. Sure, the Backes signing is very questionable. But at least David established himself as an impactful NHL player. Jimmy Hayes has been a disappointment everywhere he has gone (whether or not he was putting up points) and DS thought it was a good idea to give him a three year, one-way contract immediately after the trade.

Seemed to be a very pompous and amateur, "I know something you don't know" move immediately after being given the power of an NHL GM.

The pro side of scouting is very suspect. I still think they made out on the trade. Me. Smith will not be worth 5mil in Florida.

How do people feel Hayes will fare under Cassidy? Was hoping to see Cehlrik play tonight but maybe they will have him watch and then play this weekend.

I'm right there with you. Sweeney did say he wants to see how the players respond to a new voice. Cassidy could be Hayes last chance here to show something. I imagine there are a few in that boat over these next 3 games.

I assume Hayes is one of the players Sweeney meant when he was talking about evaluating what they have. Hayes was not the worst Bruin on the ice last night, but to me he really showed nothing more than he has all season. He made one or two nice plays in the offensive zone, threw a couple of weak hits, but was otherwise ineffective as per usual. I didn't see the TOI numbers, but it also didn't seem like he got many minutes, even on the 3rd line. Not looking good for Jimmy as he has to know this could be it for his NHL career- I don't see Vegas taking him and who would want him in a trade? He's heading toward being someone a team signs to a 2-way and parks in the A with an "in case of injury crisis, break glass" sign on him.
