You're asking for something no one but those players can give you. I can give you examples of players who are still available, who might sign for league minimum (or close enough to it as makes no difference).
Obviously Kadri isn't signing for the minimum, and ignore the players who are RFA like Zacha and Crouse (just signed). That still leaves 18 players who made at least 1 mil last year and are looking for jobs. There aren't 18 jobs left. At least some of these players are going to take 1 mil or less. Which ones? I have no idea. But some will have to if they want to play.
There are a number of players on that list that I'd rather have instead of Vesey.

I wouldn't say Vesey has no shot but he'll have to make himself useful on the bottom line and that's not necessarily outscoring his linemates. He'll have to penalty kill well and forecheck and backcheck hard and hit (not something he's great at) and be responsible 5v5 defensively. That's his chance and he'll need to do all that consistently.
IMO Reaves should be about 50 games this year. A lot of what Ryan does can be valuable but his energy level waned as the season went along and in the playoffs he was running on fumes. Gallant needs to be more circumspect with his usage. Hunt had more energy but is a bit of a lightweight. He's okay in a bottom line role but he's going to have to do the things that Vesey is going to have to do. The other two candidates for bottom line that I see are Carpenter and Rydahl. I don't know a lot about either but both are centers and IMO one of them is likely going to take a spot if only for that reason. Carpenter's been around a while and played for Gallant in Vegas. As for Rydahl--he's 27 and he's not a prospect. He's big and the thing on him is he's a guy who loves to throw his weight around and get under skins. The Rangers signing him at all tells me they think that he's a possibility to make the team. We don't need to sign 27 year old Swedes to play in Hartford. There's plenty of AHL free agents running around in North America. His path is come to training camp and play his game and piss opponents off and show he's responsible enough in a 4th line role. Think of him as a potential and more aggressive Bellemare (who by the by came into the NHL as a 30 year old from a French team).

Motte smaller, faster, aggressive PK
Vesey bigger, hits harder, better shot(but not great choices when/from where) decent passer and seems better fit, more productive, when with top 6 talent.
So different roles, expectations.
But he signed cheap.
And if waived, and at Pack, great partner/role model for all those prospect F's, great leader for young team.

Vesey does everything better than Motte except being slower than him. Vesey scored more goals in his first two seasons with the Rangers than Motte has scored total in his entire career. Vesey can kill penalties now.
Motte is fast, has a good motor, and kills penalties. But does literally nothing else. And he's holding out for $2 million. Vesey does everything Motte does and more, and has potential to produce the way he did when he was with the Rangers, and he's looking for league minimum $750 K.
If Vesey signs he will be playing. He's head and shoulders as an all around player above Gautheir, Hunt, Carpenter, and Reaves.
People don't like him because he didn't score 40 goals as a Ranger. Same BS people are giving Lafreniere and Kakko, and any other player that comes through here and doesn't instantly become a superstar over night. Vesey hasn't exactly moved on to contending teams after the Rangers. Some of the worst teams in the league (BUF and NJD). Being here now with better players, filling a role in the bottom 6 for league minimum he can be valuable to this team and productive.

Motte is not here and the likelihood is he's not going to be so the argument is kind of moot. That said I like Motte better. Plays with a lot more energy and speed. As far as their production last year they both ended with 15 points--Motte in 58 games and Vesey in 68. I do not watch the Devils all that much. I don't find them very entertaining so I'm not going to speak to Vesey's recent penalty killing skills. I did think Tyler excellent as a penalty killer.
If you see either as 4th line wingers as I do then production matters less. Anytime a 4th line scores it's kind of a gift and really our top two lines are where the bulk of our scoring should come from and there will be guys on the 3rd we'll want to be productive. What I look for from the 4th line is hard work and momentum building or sustaining shifts. I want those guys to hit and to PK and be responsible 200' players. Goals are gravy. They're not paid so much for that.
The last paragraph is why Motte is a better fit.
Motte plays with a higher motor and energy, which is what you need out of your bottom 6, especially come playoff time.
I like Vesey, was all about him when he was the big unsigned free agent and quite frankly dont mind him coming back, but he was at times so vanilla with his play. Sure he dropped the gloves a couple times but like so did Ryan Strome lol. There were plenty of games where I would be like did Vesey even play, because if he wasn’t scoring he wasnt doing a ton much else. Motte is more noticeable when he isnt scoring. Maybe Vesey can PK now although I hardly give him that accreditation especially since he probably was on the PK for the Devils out of necessity being that there weren’t many other suitable options.

Yeah. I’m surprised folks prefer Vesey to Motte. The fourth line is not about goal scoring. It’s about forechecking and momentum. At least in my opinion. I think Vesey could have a role as a do-it-all guy. But in terms of a fourth line specialist, Motte is my choice.

I figured his career would be over after he had what seemed like a pretty bad knee injury against us last year. I think it was the same game Schneider flattened Boqvist and Sharangovich. He's an NHL bottom 6er who can PK. Meh.

I don't get the anger at Vesey potentially being signed for what he currently is. At the very least he's better than Gauthier, McKegg, Rooney, Hunt and Reaves. He can fill in solidly as a bottom 6 winger who can come in and out of the lineup, basically the role Gauthier played last season.
The issue with Vesey when he was here was his usage. If Gallant is using him in an elevated role when other players are more deserving then I'll have a problem with it but I'm not going to assume that's the case. Honestly Vesey seems like competition/injury insurance for Blais, Hunt and Carpenter more than anything else to me with an ability to move up the lineup if necessary. I'm not a huge fan of his but he's not a terrible player by any means.

I think there's probably a big discrepancy here given Vesey might be a very different player now than he was when he originally signed with the Rangers. Just the fact that he apparently kills penalties now is surprising to me. If we are getting the version of Vesey that he was when he was on the Rangers the first time that is very meh to me. But apparently he's different now? Sucks that he's coming from the Devils because if it was any other team I'd just trot on over to their boards and get their fans' opinions.

I don't mind us picking up Vesey per se. He either makes the team or gets waived/claimed or goes to Hartford and is an insurance call up. His cap number is not an issue.
To go back to Reaves. I think Gallant had him in too many games last year but he does provide some valuable things for us. For one he is by far our hardest hitting forward on the forecheck and most opposing players are wary of him. That said he couldn't maintain his energy level in the stretch run or playoffs. If it were me I'd be looking at around 50 games for him this year. To me he should be our 12/13 forward.
Hunt I'm kind of meh about. It's not like he's bad or doesn't play hard. I think he's not a good option for the top 9 apart from emergency. A lot of plays die on his stick. He throws his weight around pretty well but he's not really a heavy hitter. He didn't penalty kill.

Players will not have many options. Will the Rangers give Vesey a guaranteed contract or is the $750,000 based on a tryout? There are so many unsigned players. Where are they signing?
Vesey will need to change his game/accept that he is not a top 6 player in the NHL. He can carve out a decent career as a role player.
