IMO that person is the only one that ended up right. No way Mcdavid should be anywhere near unanimous after the loss. Bob absolutely put his stamp on this game and on the win. And he looked dialed in by the 2nd period. It really was going to matter what happened in the 3rd, this voting sucks and should never ever happen again.

The trophy isn't for "Game 7 MVP" It's "Playoff MVP".

McDavid's post-season was epic. It should have been unanimous.

Yes it did

As has already been noted, Theodore was left off more ballots than Iginla:

There were 62 voters for the Hart Trophy. Iginla placed 23-18-12-5-3 (61 ballots). Theodore placed 26-16-9-5-2 (58 ballots). They finished tied with 434 points, but the tie-breaker goes to whoever has most first-place votes. Had all voters included Iginla and Theodore on their ballots, Theodore would have won (barring Iginla getting a first-place vote, and Theodore receiving 4 fifth-place votes, which is highly unlikely).

The second part of this myth, that a Montreal writer intentionally left Iginla off the ballot, has no basis in reality. Not only were votes not made public until 2018 (long-overdue), but it would imply that the voter knew it would be close enough that omitting Iginla would be enough to give Theodore the win. That again seems unlikely, and again with Theodore being left off 4 ballots, who is to say several Calgary writers didn't do the same thing?

He's a homer and it's funny. There are plenty of weird voters for these trophies. It is just writers voting, many of whom are dumb or have agendas - the trophies are not divinely awarded.

McDavids historic performance transcended the fact that he was on the losing team. No other Oiler did that. We dont just look at raw statistics and give it to a guy on the losing team as a result. Bobrovsky and Barkov did more to win an actual Stanley Cup than Bouchard or Hyman did. McDavid was so great that he won it but there is no case for Bouchard or Hyman being on anyones ballot when they didnt win and neither one consistently carried their team throughout. Bouchard had 6 goals and 7 first assists. 19 second assists. That isnt enough play driving to be over Barkov or Bobrovsky.

100% dont respect Jim Matheson for this, but in all honesty I didnt respect him before this either.

Glad the Oilers made the finals so the rest of the league can see what a joke the old dinosaurs in Edmonton media are.
I have no idea how or why Oilers media is so overrepresented in Canada but they have got to have some of the absolute worst media in the league.

They shit on the Oilers for dumb ass reasons, and then also pump up players for dumb ass reasons. The two Skinner votes for example. I have no f***ing idea how you can conclude that he was anywhere close to the best player in the playoffs.

You guys are making too much out of this, his 21st and 22nd picks were Barkov and Bobrovsky.

I had to google who Jim Matheson is after seeing his biased voting.

What a surprise.... Edmonton Journal.

Not he just have to take a lucky guest if there is 0 cost to left someone of the ballot and ready to manipulate the process, why not ? You really does not need to know that it will be close, just think that it could be, but they probably have a really good idea, they speak to each other and about this can of stuff, so they have some pulse. Betting odds maker know less and are usually really close.

The Oscar went with the following solution for a while, a voting system so complicated to understand (and built to be hard to game) that people would stop, for which you can put your actual favorite movie first even if it as no change to win, putting the one with a chance second without hurting its chance at all.

Top 3 of McDavid Hyman Bouchard
I guess they did all have great postseasons but that's pretty insane for the losing team
NHL Player Stat Leaders, 2023-24 Postseason - ESPN kind of supports this claim if you're giving the Conn Smythe as a Playoff MVP award which, well, it is. Make a Finals MVP award and that solves the problem. Only issue I see with the quoted post is that if we're going purely on stats alone, Leon should be in there long before Hyman.

Like I said over a week ago, McDavid's winning the Conn Smythe and hell, how the hell doesn't he?
