I'm all for trading Risto and Laughton, they're 30, they won't be around in 3 years in any case.
You want a team entirely composed of players 25 and under, go root for Buffalo.
You want a few "keystone" veterans for a young team.

It's not that they might not get a good player with the late 1st they'd have gotten for TK, but it's extremely unlikely they'd get a 1st line forward, or at best, one that will reach that level before 2030 (when he'd be 24).

Konency is not 25 and under.

The player they drafted with a hypothetical pick last summer would be 24 in 2030.
And? Players (especially first rounders) can contribute before age 24. It's actually common on teams outside the Flyers.
TK will be 33 in 2030.
Which one is more likely to contribute to winning with Michkov in his prime years?
Uh, 33 year old TK is probably not going to be near the player he is now. I mean I guess it's possible, but it's a massive risk when you could have more young talent instead.

Or should we be writing off Luchanko until 2030? Your narratives don't make a cohesive argument. It's "prospects won't be useful for 6 years" when you want to defend Briere not trading Konecny, and "Luchanko is going to be the 2nd line center next year" when you want to defend Briere passing on Buium. Not to mention "we only need a to add a few impact players with all our draft picks this year to be good".

Pick a lane.

The first line forward can be picked with their own pick since they are now a worse team without TK. Trading him also improves all of their own picks.

never is..every so often the years we will actually be competing keeps getting pushed back

I'd like someone to tell me I'm wrong, but this pick feels almost like Ty Dellandrea. 13th overall, two way forward, playing on a bad OHL team. Did well on a bad team in the OHL but never could properly piece it together in the NHL. Am I off on this?
nope..

i said when he was selected if this was any other Org. he would never even wear the NHL jersey.

but here in Flyers land hes gunna be a roster staple who never amounts to anything...

Dellandrea DY: 67 GP, 59 PTS

Luchanko DY: 68 GP, 74 PTS

Dellandrea was ranked in the 25-30 range by most, Luchanko was ranked in the 18-25 range by most.

Mildly comparable, but Luchanko has always been better than Dellandrea was at the same age. Dellandrea projected as a bottom 6 energy forechecker, which is what he is now. Dallas reached for whatever reason, so the pick looks way worse because there's a "1" next to Dellandrea's name instead of a "2", where there would have been far less expectations/pressure. That's just how it goes for 1st round picks versus 2nd round (& beyond) picks in any sport,, more inherent pressure/attention with a "1" next to your name.

Luchanko seems to have been solid so far in his D+1, but hasn't popped off like I believe he would have. Sure, Guelph isn't great, but just worth noting.

I think you're pretty close and that's uncomfortable
