It sounds funny but this team plays better with Tanev in the lineup. I thought his hard fore checks on Tampa defenceman threw them off quite a bit.
That should be no surprise, really. Tanev is the best forechecker with Perreault on this team. He may not have the softest hands or highest hockey IQ, but he brings an element to the Jets checking line that is really a crucial part of hockey, and he brings it every single game.

Maurice has a system that relies on speed and tight gaps all over the ice. He also values puck pursuit, pressure and retrieval on the forecheck. You can see that he tries to have a strong element of speed and aggressive puck pursuit on each line...

Perreault
Roslovic (earlier Connor) and Wheeler
Armia / Copp (on the shutdown line)
Connor / Tanev

So glad to see the appreciation for Adam Lowry on this thread. I was out playing poker before the game and dawned on me that I was casually referring to him as an elite league checking center and absolutely no one (even the non-Jets fans) were disagreeing.

Way back in the day, Adam Graves was my favorite player. On the almighty awesome fan page I set up for him, I referenced two songs:

One was "Have A Cigar" by Pink Floyd ("And if we tell you the name of the game, boy // we call it riding the gravy train")

I feel the time has come to revive the other, to coronate the new King of Adams :P

im saying buff is not playing at NHL level. i say the games are the proof. hes doing all kinds of wrongness all the time. buy him out i say. he just cant play beacause organisations has made wrong decision signing him with huge amount of Money. its the playing at ice that Count. that make me wonder how stupid this oraganisation is. set there any dman from farmleague and he cant be any worse by any meaning. he got some assitpoints but with that icetimes they all would get those Points. no big sicret here

When I was young I was a very aggressive forechecker always finishing checks. At the time I Never realized how much chaos I caused which led to consistent turnovers and not allowing plays to setup.

It is a real pain for opposing teams. Dman worrying about mishandling the puck and getting nailed.

It's hard to pretend that you are just a nutjob from Finland that cannot spell English when you actually are not. Not sure if he is Finnish or Canadian, but at least he is having fun with us.

First couple of months I thought that avgard is genuine.

Just going to say every Jet had a solid game , good for Hutch to show he may be a different goalie from last year just like Helly has . This does look like a very good coached team right now . Scheif might not be able to get back in the lineup . :sarcasm::laugh:

One of the ways of identifying a well-coached team is if they maintain their style and effectiveness without key players and with different combinations. This season, the Jets' game looks the same and the results have remained good even when they are playing without key players and have had to slot players into different roles. It suggests that they have a good system, that players understand the system, and are motivated to play hard and consistently as a unit within the system.

Usually don't complain about the lack of coverage the Jets get, but I am finding this pathetic.

Jets beating the Bolts should warrant a front page headline on TSN or Sportsnet, not being buried under several other headlines, including the Flames and HAbs losing. Hell, sports net made more notice of Nucks beating the Avs.

When we are the only Canadian team left playing this season, sure they will dedicate more space and time to how the Leafs failed to make it past the first round than the Jets playing in a conference final

The Copp/Lowry/Armia combo is the shutdown line that wins playoff series. Not only did the 3rd line neutralize their assignments, by the beginning of the 3rd frame it was obvious how much frustration they were creating. The kind of frustration that leads to retaliatory penalties, poor decisions by the opposition in their own end, and unforced errors in the neutral zone when playing from behind. Which only gets exacerbated in a seven game series.

Last night was an exhibition of playoff style shutdown hockey by all 4 lines, but a masters class lesson by the 3rd line.

I'd wager that, like Helle and Hutch worked specifically on respective weaknesses during the summer, both Lowry and Copp worked on improving skating speed and agility, because they both appear to have better jump and agility, as well as a higher top end speed.

The Jets have started playing post-season style hockey already. We may have just watched a teaser of the Cup finals last night.

Can you imagine the shock it would be for Roslo if he was sent down right now? Top line for Jets to top line for Moose.
I don't think he will be sent down if we get fully healthy, but I also don't believe it would shock him. He would know the waiver circumstances and the coaching staff would make it clear it wasn't due to his play. The Jets will likely need to make some roster decisions but I don't see them rushing and will try to extract some value.

Fully agree with this. The question mark with Maurice coming into the season is if he could coach and have success with a talented team. IMO he is turning out to be a perfect choice for the team as he has the respect and loyalty of the vets and he is the only coach the influx of young stars have ever had at the NHL level and he has their razor like focus on how to play.

Only 1 game but soooo happy for Hutch .
Hope he can make it back.
Always been a big fan of his and am happy the team is winning despite the rash of injuries.
Good job all around... I am surprised how much this team has gelled.

Hutch was solid, but he really didn't face many tough shots. The Jets really shut down the Bolts' offense.

Never seen the Jets execute a game plan for 60 minutes like they do this season.

Lowry line was MVP. I get that Tampa had a bit of a hangover from the weekend, but man did Lowry and co. shut down their guns.

That was amazing.

This team has turned into the powerhouse I knew it could be. We are not riding a crazy PDO anymore, but are playing actual sustainable hockey with actual goal-scoring (we should have had at least one more in this game too). Now we can look forward to Scheif getting back for an even stronger first line. Imagine this team then.

Say it with me: Every game with the correct line-up decisions is a blessing!

Laine played a really strong game, anyone can see that. I don't get what is going on here...

Ferraro had that goal being on Little chasing the wrong man and leaving the middle open.

To me Myers has been quite excellent all the season and was strong again, but if I didn't get it wrong when watching live that the 1-0 goal was all on Myers. I didn't watch the replay, but to me it seemed that Myers did quite stupid pinch we have seen more by Buff and so that #63 was all alone in front of Hutch.

CLA: Lowry's back! A near-perfect game from this line; no goals, but damn, comfortably winning your matchup against one of the top 5 lines in hockey is such a great result from a line with a combined salary of less than three million. All three were incredible at their own zone, both at ES and on the kill, and they managed to get things rolling in the O-zone too. What a game from them.

CHT: Am I the only one who thought that Tanev's energy was a massive contributor? He was his normal self, hitting everything that moved and being a PITA of the Bolts. Hendricks had a rather normal, yet decent night, and Connor potted himself a goal to go with an all-around good performance.

7-3: Surprisingly decent nights from both defensemen. Chiarot was not the liability I often consider him; in fact, I liked seeing some physicality and, you know, not getting shredded to bits from him. Poolman was not bad either. A game like this from the bottom pairing should be welcomed with open arms.

Great analysis. Agree - Lowry was dominant - his game is so important in freeing up the other
lines to do their thing.
Tanev - nope you're not the only one who saw this. Having him draw penalties with his speed and positioning is icing on the cake.
Poolman - I'm comfortable with the play of this guy. There's no panic in his game.

You make an important and valid point. I have noticed that TSN's web coverage of Canadian-content hockey took a right turn about 18 months ago...to me the most egregious item is the loading up of the TSN website with columnists who do little else but fill in positive-spin backstories for Toronto. I'm not sure how this can reflect well on them? I guess its all about generating local interest. Blah - that slant is not good for the rest of the fans in Canada who are interested in other teams.

Nevertheless, our observations, however correct, won't have much impact. We can rage against the machine but am unclear as to what benefit it will bring. Little to none is my best guess.

As you say -> perhaps the best medicine is a deep playoff run.

One other thing about the Jets last night , Buff was very good . We need Buff If we are going to do anything this year , loved when Ferraro was talking about Buff with Buff right beside him , good humor . It would be nice if TSN gave us Ferraro for the rest of the season .
