I think Noel coached a good game:
- chose to play the hot goaltender
- made decision not to have a morning skate b/c they got in so late after 9 hr flight delay
- cycled all 4 lines & kept the shifts short
- put out the right combination 4-on-4 in OT

Give the guy a break.

TSM, you're never going to be one of the cool kids here unless you learn to fit in. :( If you wanna be one of in-crowd, you need to robotically spit out more negative comments in the PGT's whether the Jets win or lose. Try:

"Why is Wright/Thorburn/Stuart playing? :shakehead"
"#noelogic :shakehead"

(the more headshake emoticons, the better. It's funny, and effectively expresses your disgust while displaying superior hockey knowledge)

Oh wait, this isn't the place to discuss the Jets? Might you park your superiority for a second and point me in the direction of the proper forum?

depends on the situation: Quick is #3 right now b/c he's coming back from an injury. Price plays the majority of the games for MTL, but Budaj actually has better numbers. When Team Canada gets announced, do you think Price will be #1? Luongo? Does it really even matter?!?

You play who's hot and you play the guy who you think will get you the W.

When we signed Monty after Chris Mason left, I knew it'd be an improvement b/c Monty's the type of goalie that can play a supporting role for the majority of the time, and when the starter falters he can come in and play well and give the team an equal chance to win.

Looking at the goalies we have in our system, I think what you'll see is a further blurring of the lines between #1 and #2 goalies....I think you'll see a 60/40 tandem split whomever it is (i.e. Comrie/Pasquael/Hellbucyk/Kasdorf/Pavs/Monty).

I think, right now, minutes are assigned to players based on entitlement & lack of depth -- eventually that will change and minutes will be rewarded to those players that deserve it (goalies and skaters). We're just not there yet.

Budaj does not have better numbers than Price

5v5 sv% : Budaj .922 / Price .936
Overall sv% : Budaj .928 / Price .932

Good win. Monty played very well. Watching the young guns develop is always fun. Wheeler sure has found his thunder stick as of late. Peluso passes the potato pretty well. Every game recently he throws one or two that has me nodding my head in satisfaction.

Old Wild discards have been poor for us. Miettinen, Setoguchi...

Good game, Monty was pretty damn good.

Sick pass by Schiefs on the OT goal.

BTW, Noel put Tangradi on the Jokinen line for a couple of shifts in the 3rd and I must say I liked what a I saw. Certainly more promising than the Chris Thorburn experiment. Hopefully, Noel moves Tangradi up a line and put Thorbs back with Peluso and Wright. (I have lost all hope that O'Dell is gonna get a fair chance so I'll take Tangradi over Thorburn eventhough we know O'Dell rightfully deserves a shot on the Jokinen line)

I noticed a few Avalanche fans mentioned that the winning goal should have been offside. I thought this too at first until I played back in slo-mo, and saw that the Av's player's skate brings it over the blue line. Anyone else notice this?

Yes. That's the only way it's not offside.

Felt terrible for him. Looking forward to him getting his mojo back, because I know he will.

Solid game!

I think it's official now, we have a goalie who is 7-2-1 with a .929 save and a 2.02 GAA, and another with an 11-16-4 record with a .902 save % and 3.03 GAA, or a goalie winning over 2/3 of his starts vs one who is losing nearly 2/3 of his starts. We have a goalie controversy. The team is simply playing better in front of Montoya, and it would be foolish not to give him a run on the job, to push Pavelec to play better or not play.

Liked the d pairings, each was solid, Enstrom-Trouba are excelling at giving us sustained offensive zone pressure. Buff was a little lucky that his forwards bailed him out on a couple of occasions when he cheated and got caught high in the defensive zone. But he was in his kitchen to set up our GWG. Ellerby played well I thought.

Really like our 2nd line. I thought at the beginning of the season they could make a good trio, and they sure do use their collective speed advantageously. Best line on the ice, although they we're shut out on the scoreboard. All 4 lines did some positive things.

I'm a Winnipegger so I reserve the right to complain, and my consternation comes from our PP. We are trending towards the bottom. Can somebody please explain what Olli Jokinen is doing with on our top unit with a big 0 PP goals. I'd like to see us keep our forward lines together, with the exception of Setoguchi replacing Frolik. If Enstrom-Trouba can produce and control the play 5 on 5, give them time together on the PP. Use Buff-Bogosian with the 2nd unit. Bogosian's heavy shot and ability to shoot while skating horizontally will force the d to focus on the points and conceivably open up the down low game. Short of retooling our components, we might have to bring Kyle Wellwood out of retirement.

We need to make some adjustments, but given that Colorado's only goal was as fluky as they come, this victory may give the Jets confidence heading into the 2nd half of the season.

Did you notice how the camera zoomed in on him when he handled the puck in his own zone a couple times....I was grinding my teeth and clinching fists.

Also he ran into an old friend "invisible force-field" on a rush he was on, he ended up putting everyone off-side I think, tough break there.

Great team game. They played very well, especially Monty.

What a save at the end there. :handclap:

I'll say it - Monty should start next game....but he won't.

He will start the next game. No reason he won't after that strong game. Noel rode him until he had a lacking game... Why start the guy after a strong win, only to sit him after an even stronger one? Not even Noel is that ignorant. He'll play the hot hand.

I really hope Montoya either wins the job from Pavs or this pushes Pavs to be much better than what he has shown so far. Some how I am going against the latter happening here.

Scheifele on pace for 38pts this year, if you look at it linearly. If you take into account his pace over the last 15, his PPG page is 0.82. If he manages to continue at that pace (which I admit is unlikely, but I do think that something has "switched" on for him), he'd score 12g, 22a for 34pts, giving him a season total of 53pts.

Again, not saying this is predictive, but it shows you how much he's managed to amp up his game as of late.

TSM: agree - this was a well coached game, with good preparation and decisions made throughout. Credit where credit's due.

I don't think it is unreasonable to expect Scheifele's point totals to keep close to there current pace. It took him 20-25 games to make the transition to the pro game and now you see a player becoming more dominate with each passing game. Now he is getting the icetime and is being put into positions to score (PP, 4-4). IMO one day him and Kane will get really hot and we may see some flood gates open. When it is all said and done somewhere in the 45-50 point range seems pretty likely to me.

If Scheifele can score 40+ points then boy does that look good! I think he should be able to get to ~45 points. Anything more than 40 points is just a bonus. If he's in the ~55 range then we starting to see #1 C potential.

Yeah I really felt bad for Bogo on that goal. The guy has had some unbelievably bad luck this season. Just seems like nothing is bouncing his way...

Yeah that was a bit of an unlucky break, but nothing much he could do after it ricochet off Stuart. But overall, I thought Bogo had a pretty solid game. Nothing flashy but he had great gap control all night and was a physical presence in front of Monty. With Bogo in the lineup this team also seems to play a much more defensively sound game. My guess is the team's goals against average is noticeably better with him in the lineup.
