I don't think it is unreasonable to expect Scheifele's point totals to keep close to there current pace. It took him 20-25 games to make the transition to the pro game and now you see a player becoming more dominate with each passing game. Now he is getting the icetime and is being put into positions to score (PP, 4-4). IMO one day him and Kane will get really hot and we may see some flood gates open. When it is all said and done somewhere in the 45-50 point range seems pretty likely to me.

Sometimes rookies seem to run out of gas the last quarter of the season. The Olympic break this year should help out our Calder Twins.

Today's papers talk about OT magic (including high praise from Wheeler to Scheifele), Buff's love tap and some IceCaps content.

Solid game!

I think it's official now, we have a goalie who is 7-2-1 with a .929 save and a 2.02 GAA, and another with an 11-16-4 record with a .902 save % and 3.03 GAA, or a goalie winning over 2/3 of his starts vs one who is losing nearly 2/3 of his starts. We have a goalie controversy. The team is simply playing better in front of Montoya, and it would be foolish not to give him a run on the job, to push Pavelec to play better or not play.

Liked the d pairings, each was solid, Enstrom-Trouba are excelling at giving us sustained offensive zone pressure. Buff was a little lucky that his forwards bailed him out on a couple of occasions when he cheated and got caught high in the defensive zone. But he was in his kitchen to set up our GWG. Ellerby played well I thought.

Really like our 2nd line. I thought at the beginning of the season they could make a good trio, and they sure do use their collective speed advantageously. Best line on the ice, although they we're shut out on the scoreboard. All 4 lines did some positive things.

I'm a Winnipegger so I reserve the right to complain, and my consternation comes from our PP. We are trending towards the bottom. Can somebody please explain what Olli Jokinen is doing with on our top unit with a big 0 PP goals. I'd like to see us keep our forward lines together, with the exception of Setoguchi replacing Frolik. If Enstrom-Trouba can produce and control the play 5 on 5, give them time together on the PP. Use Buff-Bogosian with the 2nd unit. Bogosian's heavy shot and ability to shoot while skating horizontally will force the d to focus on the points and conceivably open up the down low game. Short of retooling our components, we might have to bring Kyle Wellwood out of retirement.

We need to make some adjustments, but given that Colorado's only goal was as fluky as they come, this victory may give the Jets confidence heading into the 2nd half of the season.

Good post but I am going to respectfully debate you on the first bolded part. I think when our PP got on track was when we broke up LLW. I think now we have two units that can beat you especially bringing Scheif and Wheels out for the last minute. I think most people (not saying you at all) forget the power play is two minutes long and get focused on the 1st unit and how they produce. One of the keys to production on any PP where you lack the elite star like Ovi is the 2nd unit. I really like mixing up the forward groupings and its allot easier for the coach's now that Scheifele is playing like he is playing.

To the second bolded point, the more I watch the more I think Trouba is our most dangerous PP D man. Buff has the blazing shot and is gifted offensively but I feel like on the PP he gets a bit too focused on the big blast and he seems to get tunnel vision and I feel like everything he does is designed to get himself in a position to blast the puck. If you watch Trouba he is always considering all options and seems to have a great feel for how the play is developing and finding “the best†option. If the puck is on his stick and there is net presence by a Jet (Screen) he is great at getting it on net with the wrister or half slapper, that is such an under rated play. Very hard for me to articulate in words but Jacob has an "it factor" on the PP. He has the perfect blend of shooter and passer that keeps the other team off balance but mostly it his ability to read and react instantly. I have zero issues with him playing off the 2nd unit for now because he still gets quality PP TOI and he is out there with Wheels and Scheif facing the number 2 PK unit which ain’t so bad.

A few things I noticed that haven't been commented on yet.

It appears KFS faced pretty tough match up last night. I would need garret to work his magic but they seemed to be out there allot when Dutch was on the ice and not sheltered at all?

Buff and Ellerby used their size to do very well against the Duchene line.

Did we give up a odd man rush last night? We must have but the amount of 3-2's or 2-1's yielded seems to have been minimal.

our specialty teams looked great.

Our back check and back pressure were relentless.

All three D pairings looked good last night (yes even Stu)

All four lines seemed to function pretty well last night (even our 4th line which I can be pretty tough on)

When Monty plays its easier to be a defender because he is a third D man back there.

Varlamov was outstanding.

It really helps when your goalie doesn't let in a stinker.

Erik Johnson looked unreal last night. I am very impressed with his game now.

When Claude talks about complete games and A games he should save the tape of this game and show the team over and over in Clockwork Orange fashion because it’s not like we were standing on our heads we were just exceptionally cohesive and disciplined.

One of our best team games in 2.0 history.

Jokinens puck pursuit and retrieval are pretty top notch. I am guessing that with 10 pp goals in the past 10 games they keep the PP together.

Very good game to watch last night. Thought the Jets deserved the 2 points. Even if they would have lost in OT or in the shootout, that was a better effort, and better organized team than the one that played in Edmonton.

They were sheltered in terms of zone starts (70% Sch, 83% Kane, 87% Frolik O/Dst%), but they did face tough matchups - Duchene, O'Reilly Wilson, MacKinnon, and Barrie were the largest % matchups for Scheifele (and very similar for Frolik and Kane). The KSF line was around a 20% CF% relative for the night - balance the O vs D zone starts against the matchups (one tough, one not so tough), and that's a very good result for them. Statistically, it matches up with what we saw on ice - strong possession game from them, and very dangerous on ice.

PS: nice thoughts and summary in your post. The one thing I would add: the D was standing people up at the blueline, and had good gap control through the neutral zone, which effectively took away the Avs fast transition game.

I didn't read the GDT after the game started because I watched it delayed on the PVR. Did anyone capture a GIF or the like of the Jets fan wearing his Zoomies?

It was a very good game by the Jets. They were fast and intense, and very well-organized defensively. I liked all 4 lines, and was particularly happy that Peluso and Tangradi were able to play effectively. Having that size up front is a bonus.

Scheifele was back to his effective play after a couple of so-so games. Kane was dangerous, and Frolik was good again.

The LLW started a bit slowly I thought, but picked it up. Ladd seemed to pick it up after his big hit. I agree with Kane and Ladd when they say that this team plays much better when they are physical. Wheeler had a monster game - the Avs had no answer for him all night.

The D was strong. It was good to have Bogo back to help solidify the D. Trouba with another very strong game. I liked Ellerby's game - much more poised than his last game. I think he could play with Buff for some time.

Montoya was fantastic. In addition to his good saves, I love how stable he is in the net. His rebound control was very good and an important reason for the Jets good defensive play. His puck handling is also a bonus. He was much more "quiet" in the net than Pavs has been. Lately, Pavs has been out of position way too often due to over-committing.

The amount of whining on the AVS boards is special. Buff's love tap is now morphed in to a full out vicious punch and the REFS are against the AVS in every game: sarcasm:. A few sane individuals pointed out , their team was out played and were lucky to get a point. Hope the Jets can continue the solid play and not play down to Buffalo's level ...... again !

How about the main board thread about the love tap? A special Leafs fan and an Avs fan decide to chirp us on the Jets' relevancy and lack of playoff success

Except Buffalo is 5-3-2 of late. Buff's punch was a punch.

Not like that, when we have been clearly out played. It usually goes ..... fire Noel , trade for Toews and Crosby , followed by it's all Pavelics fault:sarcasm:

Re the bold text - it wasn't just the defense that took away the neutral zone. The game winning goal came on a Scheifele break-up of an Avs attempted run through the center of the zone, and there were multiple other instances where a Jets forward would stand up at the Av's blueline to at least attempt to nullify Avalanche breakout attempts.

And maybe even more importantly, the forwards hustled back to help defend the zone, and cover for the D on pinches and carry-ins.

That game was a thing of beauty to me. The entire team did so many things right, and so few wrong. I think this is the "Noel system" that Claude's been trying so hard to implement, and if it is, this is how the Jets should be playing every game. I was also very happy that the 4th line got so many shifts, and pleased to see Tangradi with a couple of shifts on Joki's line in place of Thorburn.

All in all, a real treat of a game.

Anyone else notice how a lot of people on HF are calling buffs love-tap on varlamov a "viscous punch"? It's quite comical, especially since He punched ellerby harder during the celly (that and if buff really punched him that hard, varly woulda been on his a-s-s)

Mostly Avs fans that are still angry about the loss to the lowly Jets, and Oilers fans that are idiots and can't tell the difference between Yakupov throwing an elbow to Pavelec's head and knocking him down, and this. I wouldn't read too much into it, seems like most people agree that it's not thread worthy.

I just thought it was amusing. It was a little love tap, varly reacted by swinging his stick and it was over. If someone got hurt I might be singing a different tune but it was an innocent altercation.
