I just don't see Jesse ever being better than Laine; Laine can score and Jesse cannot.

That's all Laine can do though, is produce a good shot. He's like a "relief pitcher" in baseball, that only comes in for the last 1 or 2 innings.
Laine is slow -- Jesse is fast, and a way better stick handler. Jesse looks like he plays with some determination and effort, and Laine does not. Laine continually turns over the puck and Jesse does not.
Jesse's scoring will pick up as he starts to mature, but he's more of a complete hockey player than Laine IMO. I'm very glad we got rid of Laine, as I viewed him as a liability.
If your just looking at it from a goal scoring perpective, I guess you may say Laine is the better player -- but just for goals. You also have to look at this year and last, and Laine hasn't been scoring that much at all. He needs to be spoonfed by very talented playmakers, or not much production. On top of that, he wants in the $ 9- 10 mil range to sign, and I don't think he's worth anywhere near that.
Laine needs to change his attitude, and work on his physical conditioning, and become a complete player, or he may end up being just an average player in the NHL, compared to being the Superstar everyone thought he would become. I don't see it.
