I watched this fiercely competitive defensive game, and I was very impressed with how the Jets shut them down. They are sucking the forwards all the way back to the inside circles in the defensive zone, to help support the defence, and it's working great. Also the Jets are exiting their zone along the boards and out, and at the same time keeping the Oilers scoring chances mostly outside on the perimeter. It's working great, and I hope they keep this style of play up, instead of watching McDavid wheel around our defenceman. Do "not" run and gun with the Oilers, or you will lose.
I was impressed that Kyle Connor upped his game, and looked like a dominant force out there, compared to last game, and came very close to scoring. ( I think 6 shots on net) Also really liked the play of Copp, who skates hard, and forces the play, and his shot is a lot more accurate than it was 2 years ago. Way more accurate !!
Also thought Logan Stanley played really well, and the Jets should protect him the expansion draft, and give Copp the money he's asking for, as he's turning out to be a real force for the Jets. Never thought I'd say this about Copp, but his game has improved immensely.
Also thought Helle was outstanding, and Dubois is coming along, and played a pretty solid game, especially in the 3rd period. Generally the boys have all bought into this defensive style of game, and all of them gave a 100 % effort, and played really well. Very gritty hard nosed Hockey.
I now am a "believer" and think the Jets have a great chance to take this series, whereas I didn't feel that way before the series started. I really like our chances now, and even more if Ehlers is in the lineup. We win the next game on Sunday, and that's pretty much it for the Mighty Oilers.
I should also add, for the last 1.5 years, I was really pushing on HF Boards for the Jets to grab Jesse Pulju while he was cheap, and wanted out of Edmonton. That guy is going to be a big star in the NHL, and has way more value than Laine IMO.
