Unsung hero so far.
Mark Scheifele. Overplayed by PoMo most of the year. Playoffs-on the road, Scheif has been played a a little less, so as to be ready to match him as much as possible against McDavid. For the most part he has smothered him. For those who like to watch a player rather than the puck (hard on TV) his two way play has been remarkable. He has covered him like a blanket, yet still been an offensive factor.

Quick thoughts...

81-55-26 Another really good game by Scheifele's line. Connor was really dangerous and fast. Scheifele was really strong all over the ice. I really like his puck support in his zone. Wheeler has found his top gear.

9-25-13 Another really strong game for Copp. Great in all aspects. Stastny was solid. Dubois started slowly, but got stronger late in the game. The Jets still need more from him.

85-17-22 Decent game. Appleton was strong. Perreault was a bit better than game 1. Lowry really good.

21-11-23 Another reliable game. They ended up with a lot of D zone shifts vs the McDavid line, and were swamped at times, but they play a smart game, and use their size and speed well.

44-2 Morrissey was really dialled in again. He's playing really smart and fast. DeMelo was better than game 1. Really good with the puck.

24-4 Surprisingly good game from Forbort. Still a bit rough with the puck, but generally good positioning and a good stick.

64-3 Still shocked that Stanley is playing solid in the playoffs. Another strong game. Very smart puck movement. Uses his reach well. Poolman was fine. Uses his size well.

Hellebuyck - rock solid, with a dash of brilliance.

Somehow, Maurice and the coaches got the Jets really focused and executing a good game plan in the first two games. Really disciplined.

I have bashed Forbort so must say I agree tonight he was good. Never saw his feet move so well and such a good stick tonight breaking up plays and deflecting pucks. Really contributed to shutting down the big 2.

McD is being pushed to the outside, getting bumped, taking perimeter shots beyond his scoring range and looking like he is about to burst into tears. Nurse and Drai look even worse. The 3rd forward high and double teaming one side of the D circle or another....is smothering the Oil, right now

Forbort back to playing simple hockey and you didn't notice him at all and that is a good thing

In my opinion there is too much "group think" on this board. A minority of you spend too much time reading posts and replying, rather than watching the game and thinking for yourself. I have held my tongue as several posters have denegrated Scheif for most of the year. He is the Jets best player.

The team defense has been off the charts these past two games, undeniably. However, I just wanna throw a little love to a guy who I have been a bit hard on this year - #44.

JoMo has been playing some of the best hockey I've seen him play in quite some time.

It's a tall order to go up against McD-Drai shift after shift with no room for error. One false step or misread and those guys are making you pay.

Right now he is terrorizing Draisaitl. He is using his skating and suffocating the play before it gets started. It's a thing of beauty to watch and just what the doctor ordered from our top guy.

scheif was not playing like this in the regular season...neither was wheeler...and it reflected in their plus minus stats.

According to Cassie guys like Nurse are showing leadership by not retaliating. All fine and good but when you’re getting mowed over, somebody has to respond. That’s why I loved Stan’s hit on RNH. Bit of a dangerous time for it but the opportunity was there and they aren’t passing it up. Keep it up I say.

Agreed. Although not maybe "hits" in every situation, I was struck with how the Jets as a team actually tookthe initiative to physically "finish their checks", particularly along the boards. This was key to minimizing rush opportunities by the Oil and needs to be continued non-stop to be successful. It just stood out so starkly since the boys don`t normally initiate this type of action. I also thought they played well above average in their neutral zone play - something that stands out less starkly but is very important to team success.

I think I am still in a bit of shock that the Oilers have 1 goal in 2 games and no points for there Dynamic duo.
That 3rd man high is just killing them and we are suffocating them on the boards in our zone really well.
Refs are definitely calling plays different along the boards then what the Oilers are used to... which is only slightly funny to me considering how often their defence got in the way of Jets in the middle of the blueline on chips and dumps that always went uncalled during the regular season

EDIT: best way to characterize this... Jets are going more for bear hugs then they are for inflicting bruises. I’ve definitely felt they’ve gotten away with calls by the book, but refs are calling it differently, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
