assuming heinola plays for rest of season and playoffs....he will have played 10+ games which means it counts as a season on his rookie deal.
jets could have used him all season long but stubborn ass maurice going to waste a season of his cheap salary year only playing him the bare minimum.
stupid stupid stupid

Heinola will not play all the games left.

It was nice not watching Poolman running ragged chasing around players in our end for the majority of the game. He looked comfortable playing along side Forbort, in his right spot and last night was the first time in a very long while that I was not cursing Forbort.

Heinola looked good last night, poised simple smart and quick on his decisions. Demelo does a great job of supporting his partner, but there was a couple of times he had to lean on Ville last night and Ville came through.

Morrissey and Pionk are an actual 1st pairing d in this league, something we have been without since season began.

Lowry was pressing all night, hard on pucks, physical and definitely took it upon himself to help end this losing streak. His contract for the next 5 years will be a bargain in this league.

Wheeler with a captain's game. He was hustling all night, and was going to work us to a win if he had to.

While the 7 game losing streak was hell, and could be the beginning of the end for this team, it could also be the scare this team needed to get their heads on right before playoffs. Up till the losing streak, things were going along fairly smoothly this season. You need to face adversity head on in the regular season to gain the confidence required to overcome it in playoffs.

This losing streak showed me a fragile team that needed to thicken their skin before playoffs. I think they handled the losing streak well when it got past the 5 games and it felt like this could really fall off the track. Team could have imploded after the Ottawa game.

You think of all the highs and lows playoff hits you with every second of every minute played in every game. Had we headed into playoffs unscathed in regular season, we probably drop 4 straight the first time we get smacked in the nose.

Am I missing something here? All game they were talking about this eliminating the Flames, but can't the flames still tie Montreal and with 2 RW have the tiebreaker? I feel like I must be missing something as everyone seems to be saying this eliminated them.
i think they would have to win out and we would have to lose out

I think what last night showed is that players look good when put into an appropriate role with the appropriate support.

Poolman and Forbert are fine as a bottom pairing with limited 5 on 5 ice time and weaker matchups.

Morrissey and Pionk are fully capable of playing tough minutes when paired with a quality partner.

I liked our defense last night, now we just need to get the top 6 sorted out.

Not a bad way to look at it. I am aware this team isn't a contender but it doesn't mean we can't hope for something positive to hang our hat on this spring like winning a round or two.

What if we - now just hear me out - what if we had both Heinola AND Stanley in the lineup at the same time?

Having your best D men play the most minutes. What a novel concept....

Stanley has been heavily sheltered. I don't mind giving him a look further up the pairings to see what we've got, but I'd hold on calling him one of the best D-men on the team.

heinola only had 13:50 :huh::sarcasm:

That was all 5v5 time. He didn't play any PK or PP time, which is included in the totals of the other guys.

Yup and a lot of the game was spent on special teams last game.

Stanimal is playing well for a rookie but he is no saviour and I doubt he ends up in the top 4. I think he will be a great 3rd pairing that plays on the PK one day.
If we have JMo, Heinola and Slamberg as starters, where does Stanimal fit in?

Lost in Maurice's problematic coaching is the fact that we've now made the playoffs 4 years in a row! We've fixed the mediocrity handed over from Atlanta

Close. 3-out-of-4 years. Last year they didn't make the playoffs. But how "many times did they make it out of the 1st round", is the question.

Well Samberg hasn't shown squat. Heinola can play both sides. Which side is he more effective in the NHL? :dunno:

Id like to see Stanley given a top-4 shot next to Pionk (and Demelo 1RD) What does Forbort do better than Stanley to be getting him those minutes?

He's 29 while Stanley is 23. As you can see, he's clearly better at being older than Stanley and therefore should be in the lineup.
