Whiteout Is Coming.

Quality of shots matter. Throwing everything at the net doesn't mean much. They definitely outplayed us for stretches, but this is the same team that was barely losing games, and ended up coming back from 1-5 on the top team in the division to win.
The only reason why Ottawa has such a poor record is their AHL goaltending. If they had a goalie they would have won the Leaf game in regulation time.:D Leafs had 5 goals on their first 20 some shots.
Ottawa outshot the Oilers 42-22 the last time they played them and lost 3-2.
There is no easy game in the Canadian division (I don't watch the other divisions) just look at the games last night ... all decided by one goal. One mistake and you lose the game that's how tight it is. Sure teams have off nights but the majority of the games are close.
Seriously question if a player makes a great shot or a nice defection and scores ... do you give credit to the player or call down the goalie?
How about instead of calling down the Jets maybe give some credit to the other team.
At the end of the night the Jets won ... be happy.

Anyone got lines? Dubois at practice in a white jersey today.

xGA takes shot quality into account. So how's that going?

WPG worst 5v5 xGA results this season so far:

1) vs. Ottawa Feb 11, 5-1 Jets win: xGA 4.07
2) vs. Edmonton Jan 24, 4-3 Oilers win: xGA 3.46
3) vs. Calgary Feb 1, 4-3 Flames win: xGA 2.85
4) vs. Toronto Jan 18, 3-1 Leafs win: xGA 2.45
5) vs. Edmonton Feb 15, 6-5 Jets win: xGA 2.35

So last night's game was only the Jets' 5th-worst 5v5 defensive game in terms of expected goals against...

That 4.07 xGA vs. Ottawa last week is the worst result this season by any team so far. The 3.46 vs. Edmonton on January 24 is the 4th worst. The game last night was 31st worst. (Out of 221 games played to date).

Escrow is 20% this year - and I don't think the players will ever see any of it back. So there's $14.5M savings for the Jets. On top of that, 10% of player salaries for this season are deferred into the future. $7.25M in savings this year for the Jets. That just leaves them on the hook for $50,767,500 USD - but I don't know what revenues are like. TV deals, national and local. Whatever CJOB coughed up for the radio rights. Sponsorship deals (rink board and seat cover ads, etc.). Merchandise. I doubt all that adds up to enough.

Not anywhere close to enough from those sources. And it isn't like player salaries are their only expenses. There is coaching staff, management staff, training, equipment and associated staff, medical staff, scouting, office staff, airlines, hotels, meals and on and on.

I would argue that the Wheeler from last night was a close approximation of the Wheeler from a few years ago. He was first on the forecheck, throwing his body around and quicker with his decision making. Granted, this type of play from him has been few and far between the last little while, but last night showed he still has it in him. Can he do that consistently? That's an open question.

I think he has been better the last 2-3 games. Faster for a start. But he is still not the player he was.

Wheeler is playing a bit better. There is already y sheif, ehlers, Connor that are better then him. It’s not as huge concern as morrisey.

Josh is the leader of our D and is playing very poor. Is a way bigger concern for me. We need to find a way to shelter him Imo

They have been like this for the better part of 2 seasons. This is coaching. They are being asked to play like this.

It is the same only more-so this year. I don't believe Maurice is coaching them to be outplayed, but his coaching leads to them being outplayed - or at least it contributes to it. He isn't telling them to get hemmed into their own end. But he doesn't have them doing anything else instead. It isn't just the last 2 years either. It is just a lot more apparent since we lost our D corps.

When we had a better D we quite often got out-shot but the shots were coming from low danger points on the perimeter. They did a pretty good job of keeping everything to the outside. And we were generating more shots ourselves and more quality chances.

Only if you take advantage of those available points. I think we went 4-1 against them so far?
I'd call .800 a good points percentage booster.

Edit: and noting the Jets haven't taken full advantage is a worse indicator for the Jets than if we could note that they have.

Maurice says he doesn't expect Dubois to play tomorrow. Liked the 4th line last night so likely going to keep that together.

Good news. They faded a bit towards the end but their matchups also changed, and they were definitely winning their earlier ones and adding good, sustained zone pressure. Hopefully we'll see some of those higher-grade scoring chances converted in the next game or so.

70% afainst the Flames too.
Actually, winning percentage agasint all teams we have faced so far except Van and TO and we've only faced them once.

I will be happy with 70-72 points this season.

I don't have any confidence that that metric is accurate.

Yeah trash NHL coaches always remain in head coach positions for 25+ years with almost no interruption.
Well hell, he must not have any room left on his fingers from all his Stanley Cup rings then eh? Being such a good coach should have a few no? Or does he just squeak by with mediocrity....
