It's fine to objectively critique a player like that as long as you do it to everyone. The bolded happens to every dman, every game - even the best ones

I had an epiphony watching my kids play sports. I used to notice all their little f*** ups... and then when I started watching all the other kids more closely, I realized that they ALL f*** up, but i never really noticed because I tended to be hyper focised on watching MY kids. Same with the NHL. If you're actively watching Stan, waiting for him to screw up, you'll notice it a lot more

Its like the red car exercise. If I asked you how many red cars you saw the last time you drove, you'd have no idea. But if I told you to keep track of all the red cars you see next time you drive, you'll notice them all. In fact, some people might conclude from that that there are more red cars than other colors... which isn't true. But your brain would think there is
I don't find this relevant to me. Happy for your epiphany though.

I think almost every PP goes through Scheifele for zone entry. The skating is in zone rotation and angles mostly with Nik.

Funny I thought he had some bad turnovers and let pucks get by him on the boards. Not his strongest game, but criticizing the golden child instead of Stan is taboo.
Ehlers is visually high risk, high reward. Had a bad turnover in the D-zone in the first that the Jets recovered from unscathed (blind pass off the boards right onto a Preds stick). But then he goes and does some good stuff.

The look on Namestikov's face when he turned around and saw Josi already teeing up that slapper, holy moly, lol. No chance he was getting out of the way on time, and just had that look where everything slows down, and in his head hears "hello darkness my old friend........" as his life flashes before his eyes
The guy is tough as nails. I think he could use a break though. I'm not sure he's helping a lot lately.

I'd be inclined to call Lambert or Chibrikov up for 2nd line duty for 3-4 games (Perfetti at C) and let him rest up a bit.

This makes my point lol
was your point that you're a condescending bastard or that I'm a condescending bastard? Both points are correct, and as I inferred, I knew both already.

If the Jets could somehow acquire Josi, I think we'd have a true Cup contender. I understand he's very good friends with Neidereitter, and had dinner with him when Nashvilee was in town.

With Nashville struggling a lot this year, maybe Trotts would consider letting Josi go for some good young prospects ?? I'd give it a shot if I was Chevy.

Love Josi but making 9+ mil a year for 3 more years after this one. Not sure how we could fit that.

Coghlan had one burst of speed last night that actually really impressed me. Loose puck in our end, Evangelista turns and tries to intercept and go for a breakaway but then Coghlan hustled his ass and beat him to it, made evangelista look like a snail. He's got some speed and good puck skills

I love the he plays. Fearless. The legs aren't injured the way he flew up the ice almost getting a back door tap in. Still killing penalties in spite of it all.

Prime example of people simply refusing to give Stanley credit. I thought he was really solid again.

Eye test good? Use analytics. Both good, pull shit out of your ass.

I think that most of the anti Stanley crowd are giving him credit where due for last night. There are a couple of exceptions. By my eye-test he was good last night. If he could be that good consistently he would be quite acceptable in the #6 slot. History says he can't but we'll see.

What did you think of Coghlan Jet? He looked pretty good to me, but I'd like your opinion.

He should be moved into bottom 6 till he gets healthier bring up Chib for top 6. He can still kill penalties while recovering.

Edit: I've been accused of being a "stats hater" in the past but this is EXACTLY why they're useful. You can compare objective outcome (stats) with subjective analysis (eye test). If they don't match, sometime the issue lies with the examiner and their biases, not the player in question
Stanley's eye test is worse than his results. He's just so big and awkward I think it amplifies the negatives. Also he's easy to visually identify...

His results have been way better than his shot metrics this year, but his shot metrics aren't exclusively terrible. Corsi- and shots-against are bad, but xGA isn't too bad and his actual GA is great (those xGA chickens will eventually come home to roost...or maybe not, because Hellebuyck).

Other than the female broadcaster who clearly can't make cogent observations the Prime broadcast is simply better. Better video quality, better graphics, better content and better production. They really hit it out of the park. I want to see more.

I wonder if they can just take over our SNET broadcasts which are hot trash.

For the game - man, Coghlan really impressed. It's so great to know we have an NHL quality defenseman as depth in case of injury but I don't know that he will clear another waivers run.

Stanley was good again. If he keeps playing like this, no way Heinola will be able to break in. I think it's time to deal him.

Top line was marvelous.

Answers my question about Coghlan.

Still a big IF on Stanley. I want to see how he fares against a younger, faster team. But I agree that IF he can keep it up it will be very hard for Heinola to break in. I think that in that case we will have a Stan v Fleury contest for 3LD.

Stan played a very good game overall, did way more good than bad. Odd that some can only take the negatives from his game regardless of the goods
It’s all about pairing and who your opponents are. Stan needs a good puck carrying D man as a partner. Heinola and Stanley does not work.
I totally agree and that goes for any player do more good than negatives plays.

I know some of what probably saves Chevy is guys not wanting to play here but man are we lucky to have a GM like Chevy. Its partly why i'm not concerned about Ehlers because i really believe Chevy signs him again. But if Ehlers says he wants out i'm also very confident Chevy would get a good return on Ehlers.

The only way I see Chevy getting a return of any kind on Ehlers is if he can find a deal for player(s) who help us now as much as Ehlers helps us now. Otherwise he is not moving Ehlers while we are contending for the Presidents Trophy. And he is not going to trade him to any team we might meet in the PO either.

I think it is either sign or own rental. Unless some team will give us an actual 2C for him.

Yeah you really have to feel for the kid. Just shit circumstance after shit circumstance. He could really use a change of scenery on a team that will have him as an everyday player.
The only bad circumstances for Heinola have been injuries. I don't know how to feel bad for players who don't earn their spots. All he had to do was beat out Stanley. What better circumstances does a player need? Right now I don't think Heinola is eve close to beating out Couglin nevermind Stanley.

Don’t think tiny Heiny brings much in return unless maybe part of a package.

Every organization has a tiny Heiny in their system, an undersized D who shows potential in the minors but can’t transition that to the NHL!

Sorry but he’s Niku 2.0 to me, just too small and not tenacious enough for the NHL.

His skating was supposed to be his strong point but to me he looks slow

Everybody looks slow to you Sip.

I wondered if we might see Perfetti in the middle but I think the coach is still apprehensive with that one.

It would make the 2C quandary less of an issue if there was another one in house.

Funny though we did see how Arniel plays his cards with a bottom 6 injury.

ehlers has been really good, but i still that 2nd line is missing an additional forward to push for offense. the Jets have the top line stacked up, while the 2nd line have two of the team's weaker top-9ers on it.

Plus his lack of footspeed means that he's at risk of getting blown past by faster players, which always looks terrible

I remember people ragged hard on Nik Antropov for a lotnof the se reasons
