It's fine to objectively critique a player like that as long as you do it to everyone. The bolded happens to every dman, every game - even the best ones
I had an epiphony watching my kids play sports. I used to notice all their little f*** ups... and then when I started watching all the other kids more closely, I realized that they ALL f*** up, but i never really noticed because I tended to be hyper focused on watching MY kids. Same with the NHL. If you're actively watching Stan, waiting for him to screw up, you'll notice it a lot more
Its like the red car exercise. If I asked you how many red cars you saw the last time you drove, you'd have no idea. But if I told you to keep track of all the red cars you see next time you drive, you'll notice them all. In fact, some people might conclude from that that there are more red cars than other colors... which isn't true. But your brain would think there is
Edit: I've been accused of being a "stats hater" in the past but this is EXACTLY why they're useful. You can compare objective outcome (stats) with subjective analysis (eye test). If they don't match, sometime the issue lies with the examiner and their biases, not the player in question
