I'll tell you what, you and the other Pavs people go ahead and rag on Monty for every goal he lets in and tell everyone that "Pavs would be crucified for that one" all you want. As long as we're winning games, I'm happy.

For the record, people were on Pavs for the third goal the other night primarily because of him already having let in the poor second one. Things sort of snowballed there...

I am not a ****ing "Pavs people"
I am a I want this team to win people
I wanted Montoya to start 20 games. If it ends up being 30, 40, 50 because he is playing well
I don't care

I really don't care who starts as long as the team wins.

All I say is have some bloody objectivity.

By far Schifele's best game. Played all 3 zones and played them well. I think as he settles in we are seeing just what he brings. Vision that is exceptional, passing that is tape to tape and a wicked release that will eventually start hitting twine.

I really like Frolik on his wing, they compliment each other.

And what's with Buff? looked like he was skating with tape on his blades  bet that pair of skates never see the light of day again.

And a lot of "us" aren't "anti-Pavs" people. We want the same thing. You want objectivity? Then I guess Montoya deserves a couple seasons as a starter before we can pass judgement on his capabilities right? I mean that's what Pavelec has had...

If Pavelec gets the start in Chicago I hope he has an unbelievable game. I would love it.

Well this game no. But people were also the same way after we shutout NJ, and he was hardly tested. I think the problem I have is the knee-jerk reactions we tend to see on this board that get annoying. You really have to take a more level headed approach as you go and you tend to get a better idea with more samples.

But he has a .933 save % in three starts!!!!!!!!!

That first goal if went in on Pavelec complaints would have been he over played the shot and was out of position.
Second goal was easily stoppable and should have been stopped.
Montoya lets it in.... "eh oh well get the next one" Pavelec lets it in this place is in melt down mode.

I wasnt nervous with him in net per say, but he did have quite a few shots that after they hit him he had no idea where the puck was and was looking around. More so than even Pavelec does.

Fair posts in that some people have had too many concussions with Pavs and are done but on balance most of the posters seem to be saying Monty is not the savior but earned another start.

The team played great in front of him and yes Pavs would have been crucified for the 2nd goal......as a matter of fact I believe Monty would have been beaten up for it more in the PGT had it stood as the game winner for Detroit.

My thoughts......Pavs and Monty aside I like competition at EVERY position. I have been advocating more of a tandem system for 2 years. I want to see how Pavs plays with more rest between games consistantly.. Pavs is not a 70 starts a year type goalie. Monty is not the savior but they both need Monty to start more.

Montoya has been in the league for 10 years with 4 organizations and has similar career statistics as Pavelec.

I think people know what he can do already.

Just play who is playing the best.
Simple solution really.

Good game. Great to win one. Thought Monty was solid - and his puck handling helped the team out a few times...nice to see.

Scheif/Frolik/Halischuk seem to have some chemistry. They look like a good complimentary mix. I've watched the highlight of Halischuk's goal a few times - Schiefele is just kind of standing behind the net there, watching everything...not critical of his work on that play that led to the goal, but what was he doing?

I think if the Jets can get 47 shots on goal every game things will start to look up... :sarcasm:

Scheifele was pretty integral to that goal. He corelled his own rebound and kept the play alive down low, which lead to Hallischuk receiving the feed from Frolik.

I think we may be running into one of those rare situations where a team feels more comfortable in front of a certain goaltender. Given this isn't something you can diagnose over one or even 5 games, but there's something to be said for a team feeling confident in their goalie.

Wings fan stopping in to say great game. You dominated us on all four lines.

I also wanted to add over on the trade boards I've seen a few threads with Bogosian included and couldn't believe your homerism on the value you put on this guy. I stand corrected. This was the first game I've really focused on him and he is everything you guys praise him about. Was trying to think what it would take from the Wings because he is the exact player we need. After thinking hard I don't see a trade as we would get depleted pretty quickly of our prospect pool and NHL players.

Again great game and heck of a Dman.

If you like Bogo you will LOVE Trouba

On a side note I think we played a road weary team last night but right now we will take a win in any form.

Here's my point. I was never nervous at any point that Montoya wasn't going to stop the puck. The first goal was an impossible deflection right in front and the second goal was post in on a one timer. Not unstoppable but a decent chance.

Montoya wasn't perfect but his totally in control demeanor and puck control made me feel confident. I bet he makes his teammates feel the same.

I felt the same way, to be honest. Comfortable knowing or thinking "Montoya will make the next save".

What a game, one of the better games since the team returned, in my opinion. A lot of positives to take from that one and a lot of real good contributions from out players. Would love to see Montoya follow through with another strong performance.

Now comes the big test, the one that always sinks this team; can they do it again? Can they follow a real solid game up with yet another one?

And I am certainly in the 'Montoya better get the start vs. Chicago' camp, he deserves it and has 100% earned it. At this point, there is no #1 tender on this team, contracts out the window.

So much this. i saw a team last night that battled for monty and didnt get deflated after that clitty assist. Its so obvious they are more comfortable in front of him.

The media has pretty much lived up to my expectations of what we would see this morning.

The Jets had a good game against a very tired team that came out flat.
Somehow it was all the Jets playing great and "why can't they play like that every night".

That was NOT the Wings playing well.

I'm assuming very few people were serious, but the idea of Monty being anywhere near ready for a starting role is ridiculous - there's a reason the guy hasn't seen that many games or stuck with many teams despite being around the league for 8 years. He's been good in a short dose but overall he's likely to fall back to earth.

Historically, the guy's been an decent ~20 game backup. With less games, it seems like he can (sometmies) maintain around a .920 SV% but the last time he was given ~30 starts was 2011-12, and he posted a .893 despite starting the season off red-hot (sound familiar? :sarcasm: ). Last season, he improved that to a .899 in 7 games for the Jets, which is an average heavily affected by the one shutout (as is his .933 this season)

He's not bad by any means, his puckhandling is beautiful and considering his play and the team's play in front of him I definitely think we should get him a couple more starts while he's hot. I just think we should try to keep the historical perspective in mind here when evaluating him. While his ability to post shutouts is incredibly useful, I think it's important to keep that in mind when looking through his stats - his .800 something games are far more common than the .905+ ones. .While the gap between him and Pavelec isn't as wide as I'd like, let's not pretend it isn't substantial. Still, we should absolutely play the hot hand.

Let's not fall for another goalie with mediocre SV% just because he makes some gorgeous plays. ;)

What a fun game to watch.

I don't expect perfection, but I expect effort, and the effort was there last night.

If people don't understand how valuable and good Little is after our previous two seasons, they should now. As I have been saying in the threads about building a team, maybe we can't get an elite franchise C. But give the Jets a second Little and we're instantly better. Having a second Little this season would have allowed Scheifele to be better sheltered (although he sure didn't need it last night).

Speaking of Scheifele, I don't expect him to be the 1st star every night, but it was sure great to see him rewarded on the stats sheet, because for the people who don't watch hockey and only look at the stats, he's been very good for us in almost every game this year.

Lot's of the other forwards played well as well, Ladd had a "Ladd" game, Frolik and Halischuck were skating pretty good. Jokinin has been much better this year, and he had another decent game. Seto hasn't gotten on the score-sheet as much as everyone would like, but when he gets his legs going on the fore-check, and takes the body, he's pretty effective. Wheeler had a few chances, but needs to get himself into beast mode Wheeler more often. Anyone else want Wright to stay at centre? He's pretty good at faceoffs, and it seems like his game is better suited there. Do the Jets try to move Slater at the deadline?

On D I thought Enstrom was ok (nothing too high or low), Buff had some very nice passes, but forgot to take a skate guard off. Yikes. That straight fall that lead to the 2 on 0 could have been a back breaker. As others have mentioned, Ellerby didn't stand out, which is what you probably want from your bottom pair. Clitsome seems to still be switching back and forth from good plays to bad plays during every game. Would really like to see more consistency from him.

On Bogo, I've been saying that I thought he was dealing with an injury from the start of the season. I do think that was the case, but his skating has started to look much more Bogo like against the Hawks and wings. Hopefully he's getting healthy, but I think he was looking noticeably different in the last two games.

Thought Monty was solid, and I think his rebound control and puck handling really helps out the D. If anything, I really hope Noel's confidence in Monty went up a notch, to at least consider a "hot hand" approach to the rest of the season.

If Scheifele can keep that up all year, I will absolutely eat my words. Great game from him, and I'm really loving Frolik and Hali as well.

Everything I'd like to say has pretty much been said, except for one thing. Peluso is really playing better than any of us expected. Not only is he a tough SOB (Tootoo wouldn't even fight him), but he has probably the best hockey sense of any face puncher in the NHL.
