If Pavelec and Montoya are only backup calibre, I'm enjoying Montoya's puck playing abilities a whole lot more. It's a huge asset to have as it can help negate a heavy forecheck and when another team goes for the dump in they have to worry about the goalie negating it.

I agree he should get the next start but let's not get carried away. The Wings barely showed up and I think Howard's save% for the game is probably higher than Monty's (well close).

Monty made some nice, very timely saves my friend...

Me too, talent wise maybe they aren't that different but I think this team can benefit from a goalie who can act like that third Dman sometimes.

Bogo had 6 shots on net. The FreSH line got 9 on net.

What an effort, from pretty much every player. More of that please! :handclap:

Detroit laid an egg, but the Jets took advantage, so credit where credit is due.

We also got a few steps further away from Draisaitl ;). All kidding aside, it is nice to get a clean win again.

that is a good point. The Jets didn't fall into the trap of playing down to their level. They took advantage of it. Those are games/points the team really needs to collect.

So, I'll leave the statistical analysis to the statistical analysis types, but at least from a narrative point of view, I'm convinced Montoya showed us some of the best goaltending we've seen all year. Two stops on breakaways, confident puck handling, rebounds that didn't make me grab my rosary. One goal against via pinball-foot, one from a screened rocket from the blue line.

Say what you will about Montoya maybe not being the answer for the long term, but as far as I care he should get the nod for the next game. At least a look as potentially #1B status.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to find a place in Winnipeg that makes a Cuban sandwich. Anyone know of one in town?

I noticed all game we were really tracking them very well through the neutral zone. if we chipped it into the zone, our guys would plug up all the passing lanes and shadow everyone through the neutral zone. It was very hard for their D to make a play.

What a good game. Very happy with many players play. I thought Pardy and Ellerby were ok, even good at times. That 3rd line is great.

The team simply plays better in front of Montoya. Just further solidifies my opinion that we need to get rid of Pavelec.

One thing I really liked about Montoya - his Hail Mary's down the ice. Couple of really long bombs to the opposing blueline.

to be fair, I don't like the second goal montoya gave up, but overall he was solid enough to give him another start next game.

not sure what everyone saw in ellerby - i barely noticed he was playing, which isn't a bad thing.

i'm no expert, but it sure looks like the jets played a different style tonight, and it particulary showed up in scheif's performance. gives me some hope that we'll adapt to fix what doesn't work, and play to our team's strengths.

very satisfying win.

wow 47 SOG. jets sure brought it for this game. scheifs best game so far. not going to lie, had my doubts but super glad he squashed them in this game. that third line was dangerous everytime they were on the ice. looking forward for more of that from him. Monty for next start! The guy can handle the puck way better than pavs which can help relieve some stress on the d in their own zone. let there be joy in joyland!!!

Jets win vs Detroit?
Our goaltender has 933 save %?
Makes key saves and key points and gives team confidence?

I guess that means Pavelec is due to come in against Chicago Wednesday!

GJ Monty and Jets. Amazing what decent goaltending does for a teams confidence.

That's true, Monty caught them a couple times with those and they turned into good rushes.

Might say the Wings were facing a...

Cuban Missile Crisis.

Which is probably why people were encouraged. First game with a new team against a game like the Wings? People not noticing you playing is probably the best thing you can do outside of contributing offensively.

That makes sense, as he barely played. 10:39 TOI. Didn't make any glaring mistakes though which is what you want from your #5-6 d-men.

Ya, don't remember the last time I saw the Wings look that bad, but great effort from the Jets regardless.

Cant listen just yet but has TSN 1290 dope show started yet with post game? I'd love to hear them and their thoughts on Monty. I would bet dollars to donuts they try to dimish his efforts tonight and pin this all on 4 goals scored and a soft wings team, and not mention his timely saves that kept us in this game.
