Prospect Info: Jets Prospects

Flames fan here coming in peace...

So I live in Lethbridge and as I' sure you all know Yager was traded here to teh Hurricanes a little before the WJC... well he's involved in a new charitable initiative with the team and SRI Homes (they make manufactured homes), it's called "Yager-bombs" and for every point he gets, SRI makes a donation to the Alzheimer's Society... my friend works for SRI and said that the company wanted a different charity but Yager insisted it be the Alzheimer's Society as he recently lost his grandfather wo had Alzheimer's.

A link if you are interested in the story
Very cool story. Thanks for sharing.

Walton has 66 points. Sudbury has 136 goals.

Just a factor on a casual 48.5% of the team's goals.

As @Buffdog said, not all of his points are a result of some amazing play, but all other players in the OHL are playing against those same goalies, and arguably with better teammates, and are failing to produce the numbers Walton is.

What are checking lines like in the OHL? Assuming Big Walt is playing against top lines every shift.

Faily non existent. He would match up against the teams top D on the road but at home they probably get him out against the younger lines because you can exploit them that way. Either way what he is doing is impressive

Just from looking back at guys drafted later but go on to successful careers they seem to explode the year after there 1st draft eligible. Most of them don't get drafted that first year but get drafted in D+1. We just nabbed him in his draft year.

I really can't see him not developing into an NHL player at this point

So what is going on with Barlow and Lucius?. Barlow was not even invited to the WJC, and his production has really declined. Lucius has been hurt, but his numbers look less than impressive.

Will they join Vesalainen as the Jets 1st round busts?
I'm concerned that Barlow hasn't seemed to expand his game. He might just be stagnating at the OHL level, but I also expected more at the Jets' camp and in the national team try outs. He did have lingering injury issues last season, so maybe he's still needing to get in a couple of strong summers of training to improve his quickness and strength. I still think he has NHL potential, but he's dropped in my estimation.

Lucius' main issue has been health, do his most important stat at this point is games played. Nobody is producing much on the Moose. They are awful. I have seen enough of his talent, including this season, that I think that if he stays healthy and adds strength he will be a strong NHL prospect. He's so smart and skilled.

Do you seen him as more of a middle sixer or does he have top line upside? Center or winger?

Don't have the tweet handy but saw that the Young Stars Tournament is no more (thanks Vancouver ).

Wonder if the Jets will find some new teams to do something similar?
Apparently it was cancelled because not every team in it could commit next year. Vancouver could have, but I think the suspect is Edmonton. Edmonton must have the least amount of prospects in the NHL. Jets have the same amount of draft picks as them in the last 4 years, 20, but have probably kept more of them. Oilers have less already this year ahead of the trade deadline and the draft. Jets would probably have to rely on a bunch of AHL tryout guys for their defense, even last year had 25 year old Anhorn and 24 year old Barteaux in the tourney.

Maybe one team couldn't commit because they wanted to host their own tourney. I suspect Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg still go through with some kind of tournament.

Seattle (aka next province) would be a good swap out.

It will be interesting to see walton at next level, the defenseman in junior are small compared to him I member a game or 2 back he was in a scrum for the puck behind the net against the center and the d-man and he dwarfed them, when the other d came in to get a whistle it looked like niether were even 5.8'.but the more I watch kevin he I can't help but think he is going to be a solid defensive forward at minimum in NHl, he gets on his horse and races back to strip pucks on all his shifts.

...Lucius had a cold spell, like all the Moose, but he's now 3rd among Moose forwards in points/game, just behind Lambert.

Moose forwards (points/game):

Chibrikov 0.68
Lambert 0.58
Lucius 0.50
Shaw 0.47
Tomato 0.44
Ford 0.41

No doubt he's winning out on plays because of his physical advantages, but 6'6" is still a physical advantage in the AHL/ NHL, and unlike some big fellas Walton seems to have skating, hands and shooting that are tracking well also. Haven't seen enough of him to add anything useful firsthand but several who do have noted his playmaking and vision as positives, and his engagement when not scoring as a past negative. I guess we'll see over the next few years but watching prospects grow into their games is a key part of fandom for me, and I'm genuinely uninterested in trotting out negatives at this point. Jets fans have been short on great prospects for a while now, and I'm here for the ride up the rollercoaster.

He also an intriguing prospect -- skill, physicality, speed and a relentless motor make him potentially a very useful prospect for a Jets team and fanbase that have been wanting a scoring superpest for years, Pionk notwithstanding.

If the chips fall perfectly, the next 2-4 years might being a solid 2C with defence and some offence in Yager, a strong top 4 all-situations RHD in Salmo, a physically dominant forward with offence in Walton and a quick, demon forechecker who can transition, defend and pot greasy goals and be a netfront presence also in He.

Given how few picks the Jets have had in the last 3-4 years, and with none in the highest end, this would be a pretty great haul. Not as much pedigree and overall eliteness as in the glory years of Schief, JMo, Laine, Ehlers and KFC, but hopefully a solid impact and triple shot of energy into an aging lineup.

Yeah one or all could bust. But until they do, we should dare to dream. And dream big. There ain't no harm in it, and plenty of hope and adrenaline along the way.

I don’t post here as often as I read. But I agree 100%. I get stoked about the potential of these guys. I remember waiting for Ehlers and Connor to materialize. We’ve watched with frustration as some of the prospects we thought would pan out did not. I remember having high hopes for Jamie Phillips to be the backup goalie. Or being super stoked to watch Nathan Smith play for the jets. More than half of these guys could be traded away before they ever reach the AHL let alone the NHL. But watching people grow and push for growth is one of my favorite aspects of the hockey journey!

These don't seem like very impressive stats, am I wrong?

Certainly not what we hoped. Something isn’t gelling with the offence on the Moose.
I was hoping Lambert would be close to a point per game this year and Chibrikov knocking on the door of ppg as well.
Lucius I’m just happy that he’s playing.
Solomon had a good season going though until he was hurt.
