It wouldn't shock me to see him have an outstanding World Juniors
Agree. He's a big winger with good speed and quickness, and good hands. He's had a slow start this season, but that's perhaps not a surprise since he missed all of last season with an injury. But I still like his future potential as a middle 6 power forward. Now that D are unable to cross-check forwards, I expect a lot of offensive schemes are going to focus on net-front players, low-to-high puck movement, and D that can walk the line and find shot lanes. Schmidt is living off that approach so far this season (along with Dubois net-front).

In the future, I think a lot of even-strength offense in the NHL will consist of transition / rush offense, and then the in-zone offense based on low-to-high puck movement and net-front chances via tips and screens. The Jets have a nice blend of offensive players on their roster and in their pipeline to match those roles.

Chibrikov with 2 goals today, one on a breakaway and one on the PP

Chibrikov is up to 6 goals and 11 points in 11 games since moving down to the VHL this year. He's 18 years old, turns 19 in February. Last year, he had 3 goals and 8 points in 20 games in the VHL.

For comparison, Rashevsky had 12 goals and 22 points in 30 games in the VHL last year, at the age of 20.

Does anyone know where the VHL stacks up in terms of difficulty? Would I be correct in thinking it to be ECHL level?

Nice to see some solid production from Chib after being demoted. He was considered by many to have 1st round talent. He’s still very young and if he continues his strong play he should be ready for a bigger role in the KHL next season.

Now if Lucius could go on a bit of a tear, that would be great!!!

Chibrikov averaging a point a game at the VHL is nothing to shrug our shoulders at. I am not a Russian hockey player expert so last night I went hunting for equivalent career paths and really kept coming up empty. Don't panic, it just seems like Russian players career paths have changed very recently. Prior to the last couple seasons a lot of the Russian forwards who developed in Russia played for lesser KHL clubs in their draft year and D+1 years and then made a move to one of the powers as they reached 20 years old. Very recently it seems like the traditional powers are getting the players at young ages and developing in the VHL.

More recently guys like
2021 01.18 Fedor Svechkov VHL Chiby's teammate .36 PPG in VHL
2021 02.33 Prokhor Poltapov VHL, his KHL team is another traditional power
2021 02.43 Ilya Fedotov KHL, plays for a not so good team and is getting 4th line minutes
2020 01.15 Rodion Amirov, in his D+1 spent most of his time on a good KHL team averaging .33 PPG
2020 02.37 Marat Khusnutdinov, in his D+1 split time across all of the MHL (Russian Junior League), VHL, and KHL. Most of that time was split between the KHL and the MHL. He dominated the MHL, 4th line minutes in the KHL.
2020 03.85 Maxim Groshev, in his D+1 spent almost all in the KHL. Played for a lesser KHL team before making the move to Chiby's club midseason
2019 01.10 Vasili Podkolzin, same club as Chiby, in his D+1 year spent most in KHL averaged .27 PPG. But also played 16 games in the VHL and average .50 PPG
2019 03.79 Pavel Dorfeyev, in his D+1 spent pretty much all his time in the KHL on a mediocre team with 4th line minutes.
2019 03.88 Ilya Niolayev, in his D+1 was in the MHL
2018 01.09 Vitali Kravtsov, in his D+1 played pr0minent role on a mediocre KHL team averaging .42 PPG
2018 01.15 Grigori Denisenko, in his D+1 played mostly in KHL on a good team averaging .24 PPG
2018 02.49 Kirill Marchenko, same club as Chiby, in his D+1 split time between VHL and MHL, in the VHL he only scored .13 PPG
2018 02.61 Ivan Morozov, same club as Chiby, in his D+1 split time on all 3 levels, in the VHL .32 PPG
2018 03.82 Bulat Shafigullin, split time between KHL and MHL in D+1 played 4th line minutes on a bad team in KHL

Lol sorry I know this a lot to parse through but Chib is in a unique position. I will say what he is doing at the VHL is not normal it is above and beyond what other prospects have done recently in their D+1 seasons in that league. PPG are not the be all end all but they are a good barometer for comparable forwards. I know we love to have comparisons for prospects but for Chib I think he is blazing his own unique trail.

No Lucius tonight. Sounds like he's injured, week to week.
Nathan Smith 1A.
Auston Wong with a 5 and a 10 for checking to the head 16 minutes into his first game of the year.
Nothing for Blaisdell, Kuzmin.

Perusing Elite Prospects and noticed Jared Moe has seemed to pull it together a bit. Is this just a change of scenery boost or is it better defence in front of him? I don’t get to watch NCAA so any insight would be good.

Cameron Rowe was terrible to start the season (Moe had to come into the game in 3 of his 4 starts before this weekend). I don't watch the games, but did notice he got more of a chance after Rowe was stinking it up. Rowe played well Friday night so we'll see what happens next weekend.

He's my favorite prospect from last draft.
Rashevsky:

Lucius out this weekend as well. Injury not described as long term, though.

Moe saved 44 of 46 in an OT win over Minnesota - extra sweet since that's the school he transferred over from

A goal for Nathan Smith

Nice assist for Kuzmin today

Arvid Holm was 27/29 for the Moose tonight, unfortunate he had to face an OT penalty shot to end it

Secondary assist for Blaisdell

Secondary assist so far for Bauer as well, 2nd period just started (edit - added a primary assist)
