Here's a shift by shift look at Rashevsky from Sunday

Fun fact about the KHL, if you ever want to watch a game there are no region locks. You can buy the game on-demand through PayPal for like 30 rubles (75 cents).

You're my hero.

That video did nothing to bring down my excitement for Rashevsky. He clearly thinks the game very well, he makes plays in traffic with 0 time regularly, his passes are hard and accurate. He battles hard on the boards as well and even threw a couple hits.

If we're worried about the defensive side of his game, I'd like to point out that in the offensive zone, if you were just tuning in and didn't know the players, you would maybe think Rashevsky was a defenseman. Every time the D activated he dropped back to man the point and it happened a lot. He never cheated for offense but he could have easily had 3 or 4 points in this game with a bit more luck. Also, every time Rashevsky was on the ice the other team was not getting chances or really in his zone at all. I know +/- is a bad stat but it's not hard to see why his team has scored 15 with him on and only allowed 3 (last I checked) at even strength. He got pushed around a bit but I don't think it will be an issue. His skating didn't concern me at all.

So, is Anton Johannesson our Taro Tsujimoto? Does he actually not exist?

I did some searches on the fan forum for HV71, and the only posts about him are from the off season asking if anyone knows if he'll play this year.
I check the lineups every day his team plays. I don't have much hope that he can recover from losing this much development and even if he did it's hard to imagine him staying healthy enough to carve out a career. Injuries were already a problem for him for 2 years before we drafted him.

Yeah, I'd be very surprised if he graduates go pro hockey after this year. Maybe div 1 hockey in the SEL or something, but even that's dubious after what appears to be multiple years with no hockey.

To be fair when he was drafted they talked a lot about him but mostly about his effort. It really didn’t seem like he was being pegged as the offensive player he’s looking like now. If anything they saw him as a potential middle six grinder with a little potential scoring ability.

That's not super accurate. He was viewed at having borderline 1st round talent, but he had made it clear that he wasn't ready to come to North America anytime soon and there were concerns about his skating. The season following what was supposed to be his draft year he led the MHL in goals and was 2nd in points despite having very little help from his teammates; he had 74 to his closest teammate's 48 points. He had 44 goals, more than twice as much as the next player on his team. The following year he scored at the 3rd best rate for U21 players in the VHL, which is a men's league, and even got rewarded with some KHL games. Then we drafted him. He's never not produced well.

Which NHL defenseman would you say his style of play is comparable to?

In my viewings (juniors and Moose) he's stood out as an excellent all-rounder, with very strong skating and 4-way mobility and good instincts on offence. He's quick and dynamic, sees the ice really well and is a talented playmaker passer (see Perfetti goal) with an accurate shot that isn't a cannon.

In terms of comparables, I'd say he's more of a new-gan defender who looks to retrieve and transition quickly and can pass and carry out of his zone than a crease-clearing stalwart JMo and Pionk are more his style than, say, Dillon within the current Jets lineup, I'd say.

He's an interesting player with few obvious weaknesses whose trajectory has been linear and positive, and I can see him taking on a mini-JMo role as he develops.

Clearly deserves the Scott Niedermayer comp.
