Well that was fun. They did a lot of work on play in tight spaces today. They finished with a modified 3 on 3 scrimmage between the two blue lines.

Players:

Chibrikov is excellent in tight spaces. He has the hands and skating to create space for himself. He also has a rocket of a shot that he blew by both Milic and DiVincentiis. I was looking for how well he used his teammates and he definitely was using them appropriately for the most part. There is a lot to like in this player but there is also a lot of risk in his game. He is going to need to learn when to use it and when not to. He definitely has top 6 talent and skating.

Barlow wasn't really noticeable. He's got some good tools but is a couple of years away. Needs ro work on his agility and skating to create more space for himself.

McGroarty: The second best forward in tight spaces after Chibrikov. Uses his strength and and hands in tandem quite well to open things up. Showed good poise and vision to hold the puck and then spot an open teammate. Liked his skating in tight. Just a real nice all around player. I still like my Mike Richard's style comp.

Lambert: The kid is real good in open spaces where he has a bit of ice to work with, especially if he can wind it up. He is however just ok when you take that space away. His hands aren't quite good enough to open up the real dangerous looks. That is ok though as I doubt playing in the trenches will be the hallmark of his game. He's likely going to be the player who pushes the puck into the ozone and draws players out of position with his speed on the outside. As I said in the WHL playoff thread he does really need to work on his shot. If he can get some more velocity on it he will be more dangerous off the rush.

Levis/Zhilkin/Wagner: Including these three together as all are examples of modern bottom 6 forward types. All good at reading the play defensively and all have enough skill and instincts to play off of offensively talented players. Really happy we are drafting more of these types.

Julien: Big guy that moves well. Was all over the puck and showed some good patience at times. Not sure he has good enough hands to be more then an energy guy but I haven't seen enough of him.

Nehring: Has some good hands but I find he was trying to pull too many moves from a standstill. Needs to move his feet more and attack with a bit more speed. His game is pretty raw but has some tools.

Salomonson: I think we got a good one here. He's just so smooth out there. Very good skater, real sound positioning. Uses his size well to both box out and shield the puck. Real good use of his stick to knock pucks away. He also has good hands and puck control. A real good chance to be a strong two-way dmen.

Kniazev: He's also really smooth and efficient. Excellent skater, real good puck skills and solid positonally. I wouldn't sleep on him, he was a second round pick and it shows. I expect he gets games for the Jets next year.

Bauer: He's a bit flat footed at times defensively and lacks skill. Maybe he makes it as a limited PB guy but just don't see much with him.

Goalies:
Hard to judge in these type of non game drills:

DiVincentiis: Lots of poise and moves well. As had been mentioned he has a lightning quick glove. Really like the kids game.

Milic: Very quick and reads the play well. He doesn't over commit as well.

How does one skate that fast with legs that skinny? Looks like me playing highschool football with Andrew Harris

Happy he's working with Roberts who's going to put functional muscle on that frame.

Judging by the way his knee bends and his slight frame guy might have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

Chibrikov reports excite me for sure. I love so much to have a swagger skill-russian on the team, I was hoping for Burmistrov to become that player so much all those years ago. The latest player of that kind this franchise had was... Maxim Afinogenov? I know Atlanta not part of the History yadda yadda but some of us have been there and memories won't go away just because you keep saying it.
