Yup Jets out worked in the 1st period. I posted before the game started the Jets can’t sleep on the Sens, they’re playing better now then their record shows

I don't think anything has really changed with the Sens. They played the Jets just as hard in earlier games.
They have a legitimate excuse that they're a very young team. Consistency is going to be an issue but the effort has always seemed high despite that.

The kind of game they play is a little bit like Montreal and I think the Jets have always seemed to struggle a bit against that high tempo controlled chaos game.

Just like the Leafs & Habs......Jets have to win these games vs bad teams and they did. The critical point is getting points even if they’re ugly points at times (like all teams do at times), while they build towards playing their A game (whatever their A game looks like). Just win baby!

What difference does it make when those high danger chances were? Lol. Hellebuyck stopped them regardless. Not saying the Jets were not opportunistic, but I think people saying the Jets played 'well' is disingenuous given the evidence.

They won, but if you play this scenario out multiple times, Ottawa wins most of the time.

Well the difference is the jets played 45 minutes of solid hockey and the sens played 15.

You really think the sens win "most of the time" if they run up the shot clock in the first half of the first period of every game?

I'd love to take you up on that wager. I'd even give you 2 to 1. Dang brotha you got more faith in those boys than sens fans themselves.

Yes, teams light on talent need to work harder then other teams and shoot lots.

They work really hard and the first period was a testament to how well they can play when on their game.
But, as a young team, they get discouraged easily and that's the hurdle they need to work on.
Coaching will play a huge role in getting these guys to stick to their game plan

Interesting game Helle was just outstanding and needed to be early.

people were worried about getting an older less effective Stastny but he’s a very good hockey player still. Such a smart player with and without the puck in all three zones.

my favorite play was apples coming hard off the right wing slashing across the front of the net to his backhand then doing the spinning blind pass to the zone he vacated as Pionk came on for a great chance. That was money in the bank and shows a very skilled side of Mason.

I’ll take the win and we did look better as the game wore on but we needed vezna Helle tonight.

always take the two points though.

Two games in this is more likely than not. These guys do not know each others game at all - they come from 2 very different systems.
One is trying to learn a new one and one is trying to work with him as he does. So much of what you see on good lines, is chemistry and knowing your line mates - let's give it a little time before we dive too deep.

Yeah, that's very likely the case. I hope they're seeing it too and make adjustments because I think they can work very well together. I also don't want to see the 9-55-27 line broken up to help other lines get going.

Quick thoughts...

25-17-22 Best line by a long way. Basically, the only strong line. Stastny was really effective from Law. Lowry continued his strong play, generating plenty of offense. Appleton the best Jets player, other than Helle. Appleton was fast and smart and gaining confidence with the puck.

9-55-27 Shaky game. Scheifele didn't have his usual energy. Copp and Ehlers were sloppy.

81-13-26 Terrible in the first. Connor was not good until he came on in the second half of the game. PLD still looks easily gassed. Some nice signs in the 3rd. Wheeler had some energy.

85-23 Perreault was good. He deserved more ice time, over Connor. Didn't notice if Lewis played.

24-4 A gong show. Couldn't make a pass most of the game. Lost their checks. Just out of kilter all night.

44-3 Morrissey was a bit better, but still sloppy with the puck on the PP at times. Poolman was okay.

88-2-64 DeMelo was fine. Stanley was better than Beaulieu. Enough said.

Hellebuyck was strong and held the Jets in until the Jets got their offense going.

An unimpressive 5-1 win, if that's possible.

They took care of business in the second and third.

I will give them that.

I do think some road games soon will be good for them.

These line combos feel a bit out of sorts..still need to find the right spot for Dubois.

Some thoughts:

-pretty poor effort all around. Lucky it was only Ottawa

-Hellebuyck was amazing. He seems to be trending up

-Appleton was great

-Beaulieu and Forbort were both catastrophes

-PLD completely invisible except for a bad penalty

-Connor also invisible

-Pionk’s goal was sick

-Poolman looked alright. Should probably be in over Beaulieu

-Perreault looks rejuvenated

-I’ll take the two points, gotta clean up their play on Saturday though

Yup we can’t take too many more of dem goose eggs Luc.

I can't see that happening unless the wheels fall off and the team takes a serious dive. Scheif is playing his best hockey in years and Ehlers is a big part of that - pressures off 55 on zone entries and to an extent, defense - he has two line mates that take care of both. It's part of how great lines are built - put the players together that complement each other.

We're making hay against the weaker teams, which is good considering we have 18 left vs the Habs and the Laffs. We have some work to do but we are doing what needs to be done. Nothing worse than looking back at points we ought to have gotten but didn't.

Also, helly looking like a different goalie than the first couple of games. He's good enough to make our questionable D look serviceable while our forward depth does its thing.

Scheifele conceding 1C already? Obviously PLD isn't playing up there yet, but I noticed a difference in effort, while noting no legs for PLD. Maybe it's just a difference in style between the two but I think I prefer PLDs physicality. Tons of points for Scheif this year and his effort is better than last year, but he's still all over the board with his effort.

Lewis played. I was wondering what he brings? I guess good he wasn't noticeable for you but I looked for him and wondered why he's out there. No sarcasm, genuinely curious. Lewis wasn't bad and he played a definite role in a goal but other than that, why? I'm just thinking developing a younger guy might be a better approach, particularly against a team like Ottawa. Vesa?

What did you have in mind? Are you suggesting Matty plays more minutes or more minutes than KC? How do you see the lines shaking out based on this take?

The preds always gave us fits with that same controlled chaos style. Until the playoffs at least :)
