That's the type of game where it felt like if we were playing against a better team we might have lost by 10. Especially in the 1st.

Nice to see them get the win though, it's important to get the 2 points. We've got a stretch coming up where we play the Habs and Leafs a ton. That could define the season.

For not playing since game 1, Poolman had a good game. Already miles better than Forbert and Beaulieu IMO. Poolman can skate, and can transition better. I'd love to see Demelo/Pionk/Poolman on the right, and JoMo/Heinola/Stanley on the left.
I agree. That’s a nice group of 6.
Hey don’t forget Samberg!

Maybe Maurice is on to something. That would be 7 d and 11 forwards again.
I like it.

What I saw from the team was a lot of gaffes that looked as if they were the product of guys playing together that were unfamiliar with one another. That's why I don't really like 11/7.

We have our team nearly healthy. Lets get some sensible lines/ pairs and give them some time to gel and play off each others tendencies. I think we'll start seeing sharper execution once that happens.
I think the 11/7 worked very well in the later periods.
I like how Maurice spread out the minutes.

This game started to get me excited about having PLD on our team. Even though a goose egg for points I thought he played really well and made a number of nice, little plays. Points will come for him.

The more I watch Appleton play, the more I like him.

Any chance at getting Stastny for 2 more years at 3.75 or 4m per year year??

I like Stastny a lot but I rather the Jets resign Lowery and Copp instead I resigning Stastny. Now if Stast is willing to play for under 1.5 million a year then yes resign him but I doubt he will accept anything under 3+ million. Under this current cap the Jets can not afford Stastny and keep our good younger players.

Color me surprised, I really liked Stastny on Lowry's wing and thought the 11F7D system worked out well after the 1st period, which was all around awful hockey by the Jets minus Hellebuyck. It's weird to me that the biggest complaint with 4 lines was ice time distribution, then somehow cutting it down to 3 lines managed to balance things out. I guess that happens when you're playing ahead too though. Running 3 lines + extras could be pretty sustainable if the ice time doesn't get out of hand. Gives us 3 very strong lines rather than the 4 good pairings + 1 player to drag the rest of the line down that we did in PLD's debut.

Speaking of PLD, not a great game but deserves some credit on DeMelo's goal. Announcers commented that it should have been icing but he had beat it out and forced Murray to play it, then he had a good screen, not that it really mattered with the puck pinballing in. He also made another few nifty passes but it's clear he's not completely comfortable yet and that's understandable.

I know I'm gushing about Appleton a lot lately, but he's earned it. We need to find a way to keep him at the expansion draft.

Preaching to the choir, but if we're going 11F7D we really should be finding a way to get Heinola and/or Samberg in there. Have they even been sent down to the Moose yet? Season starts on Monday.
I agree with everything you said.
Well spoken.

I know there is a big following of the Jets in East & West Perth in Southern Ontario, because I have extended family there. They say the Jets are very popular; most don't cheer for the Leafs or Sens.

My Uncle owned a feed company and had life long season tickets, rarely went, was for clients. I don't think he was necessarily a Leaf fan - he was a fan of his business, My aunt, his children and grandchildren. God bless him.
There is a large Jets following in Southwestern Ontario. Have attended games in Detroit and Buffalo, and noticed more Jets gear being worn than the home team. When we were in Cuba last February, the biggest hockey flag at the Sports Bar was the Jets.

the jets worry me. i know a W is a W. but still, can't helped to be a bit concerned

luckily it's ottawa who don't have much for finishing talent or goaltending, but against teams like toronto or mtl, that performance in the first would lead to more GAs

I know what you mean. We have more losses than wins against all other teams - not called Ottawa. I'm hoping that once PLD gets some time with his linemates, that will change.

Need to have special set of stats that isolate other teams from Ottawa haha

Ottawa has been so bad I think the league should call a timeout during their games and make them all go stand in a corner.

Was looking for a site that could do this breakdown, but haven't seen one yet.
it'd be a tedious task but you could do it through natural stat trick

i just did the jets

the 9 non-OTT games

48 CF%, 45 GF% (16 GF 19 GA) , 44 xGF%

I'm pretty sure they're screwed anyway...

0.877, 0.868 - that's the SV% of Doug Soetaert and Ed Staniowski on the 81-82 Jets.
0.882, 0.836 - that's what Ottawa's getting out of Murray and Hogberg this season.

Middle-of-the-pack goalies on a sub-par team.

Sounds familiar.

This won't remove Ottawa, but this shows performance adjusted somewhat by who you played against*, Jets:

5v5 Goals +0.15 per hour
13th in league
5th in division

5v5 xGoals -0.31 per hour
26th in league
7th in division!

5v5 Corsi -0.66 per hour
15th in league
4th in division

On the other hand it would be kind of boring if Jets blew out every other weak team every night. If mo made good decisions and we won handily every night. We are 2nd in division without playing well.

I am not the one to put too much stock into physical play but a period like that 1st is where we miss a guy like Buff. You need a guy like that to just throw a big hit or put someone through the glass to shake things up and wake the bench.

Well that’s the whole point of signing Forbort and Beaulieu but they don’t do that...

Oh, I could probably get over the boredom of watching the Jets hammer opponents every night... ;)
