You need toughness, but toughness that won't get slaughtered whenever they see ice. A Wayne Simmonds type is ideal, not a goon.

It's literally nothing to do with toughness and everything to do with the officiating. Teams will start to respect the leafs when they get killed on the scoreboard. Not when they get the chance to goad a stupid goon into putting them on the power play

One thing I’ve always agreed with Cherry about is the automatic icing. Yeah it’s great the few times someone beats it out but it’s not worth serious injury.

I find Cherry is pretty knowledgeable about alot of hockey rules/systems. I remember a looooong time ago he was bang on about alot of equipment stuff.

Unfortunately it's when he discusses less tangible things like "style" that he starts bumbling.
