I'd do it. But I still doubt the Flyers would. I think they'd consider trading Voracek or Simmonds, one of both, for Buff. And it won't be a straight one-one trade, because we wouldn't do that. Which leaves us with a package.

But I think the Flyers wouldn't want to give up Simmonds/Voracek AND their own first AND a useful piece on the D.

To Flyers:

Buff
2nd WPG

To Jets:

Voracek/Simmonds
1st PHI

I think this comes a little closer considering doing for both sides.

It may looks a little thin for us, but I don't think we can get more for Buff than a top 6 winger with good age and a 2nd for 1st round swap.

Hmmm. Seems a bit 'light' for Buff. Words you don't hear very often. ;). But I wouldn't give up a 2nd rd pick in your proposal, more likely a 5th+ rd pick, if anything.

I'd be okay with throwing in a prospect like O'Dell or Telegin (or even Postma) to the first deal, to get it done.

If they are interested, that would be another option I could live with.

I sat beside Chevy at a volleyball tournament this weekend. I should have made some of these suggestions :)

Honestly, I never really participate in these discussions because I don't seem to be as knowledgeable as most of you, but I really enjoy reading.

Let me know what you want me to tell Chevy next time... haha.

I'd do that too, and you're right, a player swap and a pick swap might just be it. But it might be that Philly doesn't want to move their 1st either (possibly top 10). In that case, what about something like:

Voracek / Simmonds
Grossman / Coburn
Laughton / Cousins

For Buff +?

That's more along the lines of what I was thinking. Both because I expect their 1st to be good, and because it fills the hole that buff leaves.

Those were my thoughts as well. If their 1st is good, they are probably going to want to hang on to it. And as Bob E said earlier, it would be nice to get a 2nd pairing D back as well. So we lose the 1st, but get a 2nd pairing D and a good prospect.

The question is, though, I guess, what do we consider the core of this team? Is it Wheeler Ladd Little Enstrom and those guys? Or is it Kane, Bogo, Maybe Burmi, Schief, Trouba?

Because if it's the former, we want the late 20s defenseman to fill buffs hole so that we're strong in 2 years before these guys go past prime, but if it's the latter, then we want a #1 pick or a guy in their early 20s.

We kind of have two cores at two stages of their careers, so do we want to be able to build a team around the older one, then when they pass prime, sell some off and refocus around the younger core? Or do we just wait?

You must have been there for the final of the tourney, because Chevy wasn't there the rest of the day (a given since the Jets played that afternoon). ;)

The proposal by German Jets Fan looks really close to me. However, I think the Flyers would need the Jets to take back more salary. Maybe something like this:

To Flyers:

Buff
Wpg 2nd

To Jets:

Simmonds
Meszaros
Flyers 1st

Meszaros is a do not want for me. Torn Rotator Cuff, played only 11 games this year and only 1 year left on his deal. Also had back surgery last year.

With a 4 million dollar hit I almost consider him to have negative value.

Would PHilly really give up a guy like:
Voracek / Simmonds and a 1st?
I mean, we all love Buff, and he's good, but he does have his flaws, which aren't some secret.
Voracek is their leading scoring and point getter, I'd find it hard to think they would give him up, plus a first. Though I admit I don't know him a great deal.

Thats why I argued that we wont get that much as some people here believe. I think what I posted would be the maximum we'd get out of Philly.

Okay, good. So many people going along with it, it seems like the general consensus that's what we'd get.

I don't know if we would get Voracek and a 1st either considering the year he is having and the fact that their 1st is going to be low.

I just like looking at those guys, because I don't think with a guy like Buff we should be looking at soon to be UFA guys like Read.

I think Voracek looks good, but I really have no idea what it would cost.
I just couldn't imagine them wanting to move him unless they were blown away. And like you said their low pick too.

- Luke Schenn was traded for JVR
- Philly traded away Carter to acquire Voracek and a 1st.

Two things to consider while trying to establish a return for Byfug.

I have NO idea what Byfug's value is because I can't take off my homer glasses.

So for Buff to be worth Voracek and a 1st, he has to be equal to Jeff Carter, who coincidentally, was traded straight up for D Jack Johnson. So is Buff worth Jack Johnson?

Okay, doesn't really work because the trades happened at different value points for each player, but it is food for thought.

Carter's value is inflated because it was at the deadline.

Something we have going for us with Buff is that he is extremely difficult to value. As such, the variation on the offers we will receive, should he be put on the market, will be large. Some will under-value him and others will over-value him. As the sellers, we have the luxury of taking the best offer so this should work to our advantage. At least I hope that's the case. :naughty:

I am certain that Chevy would jump on an offer like Voracek and a 1st! I know that I would be all over it..

Columbus got Jack Johnson and a first.

Watching the Hotstove, it was mentioned that Winnipeg was one of the teams expressing interest in Antoine Laganière.

http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=19149

I've followed him a little bit, very intriguing prospect. Tall, pretty strong, can snipe, and has a real power forwards mentality. Seems like he was a bit of a late bloomer in terms of development, and I like his chances of being a top 9 NHLer.

You think the Jets will invite him to TC next year?

If this Jets were able to sign him, I imagine he'd be put in their lineup immediately. He's one of the top college free agents this year, IMO he's going to sign with whatever team is most likely to give him good minutes right off the bat.

Here's a little highlight package of his:

Warning: the guy-girl commentary team isn't very good, might want to mute it.

Wow - bull in a china shop! He looks pretty good - nose for the puck down low, likes to punish the D on the end boards. Just what the doctor ordered for the Jets, I think.
