Yup. Scheifele was the same at the same age. Young players tend to make huge gains throigh their early 20s. I don't expect anything different from a guy in Laine who wants to be the best player that he can be.

Totally agree. 90% of our team hasnt seen a playoff game. Mind you we should have won anyways but I digress.

Conner, Roso, Elhers, Laine, Morris, Helly and Shief thats a dam fine core of super young talent and Trouba as well. Next year you know what to expect, you can figure stuff out better. Know where you can cheat and where you cant. Im super excited for next year.

I can't even look around at any hockey media and even as i came to the site kept my eyes clear of any featured posts. super disappointing but can say with certain confidence I just don't think there is anything else the Jets could have done to win that series. They did everything right and ran up against a wall with Fleury. It happens unfortunately just wish it didn't happen for 4 in a row.

Very much agree. I think our young players showed very well for their first trip in.

The team will be far more ready next season. Looking forward to another good season.

They could've gotten better goaltending...

alright, so, some preliminary thoughts about the series and loss today.
  • Vegas clearly wanted it more, hustled a lot more.
  • Vegas being able to skate to the west final playing a couple lousy pacific teams and have huge breaks between series was a lot more of a benefit that i would have predicted. it really showed.
  • Despite the above 2 points the reality is if Fleury isn't a magician in Las Vegas and Hellebuyck the 2nd coming of Pavelec we likely come home 3-1 instead of down 3-1. This will surely be lost in the narratives about Vegas' pressure and gap control. Remember it took one goaltender playing like Jesus and the other like a beer league goaltender to get two 1 goal wins (not counting ENs)
  • I still don't like the Stastny trade and this is why. We need to keep reloading and filling the pipline with prospects. Only 1 team a year can win the Cup and we just weren't ready. Go ahead, flame me.
  • This year was still a roaring success and a lot of fun. Expectations have been raised.
Statsny trade didn't bring us the cup but likely gave us an extra round. Don't think the extra experience the extra round gave us was a bad move (always easier to look post event). Vegas (or any playoff team) who receives .950 goaltending will likely win. Perhaps they won't get it in the final.

Pretty disappointing end to the Season but I guess that 7 games against the Preds took its toll.

And I guess you need more than one forward to able to score on 5vs5.

Players like Laine, Ehlers and Connor have to flip their switch for play off mode next season if they want to win the cup. I dont know if this is something you can practise or gain with experience but their 5 on 5 attacks didnt had any urgency and they played way to cute .

Also disappointed by Lowry and Copp who were pretty much invisible in the o Zone.

Liked Roslovic, Scheifele , Tanev and Buffs (excluding game 4) play throughout the playoffs.

See you in October

Main boards are going to be insufferable
Everyone here should do themselves a favor and stay off the main boards until the draft.

It's been a long season where we got to watch the Jets play better than they ever have for most of it. Forget the last week and get on with your summers. Watch the finals casually and unclench.

This year might have been our best chance as we’ll need to defeat the Preds every single year we want to make the conference finals. It’s not something we can count on to happen every year, no matter how good the team is. I’m still disappointed but had already processed it when we lost the fourth game.

Did the Jets thank the audience for the season? I think they just went to the locker rooms after the handshake line.

The seeming lack of energy and intensity after game one and especially in an elimination game shocks me too.

They were tired. The Nashville series really took its toll. Vegas was fresh. We probably had some pretty major injuries as well. Here’s looking at you Lowry and Wheeler.

Jets were carrying a lot of physical damage before the playoffs even started and series against Minnesota and Predators added to that.

But Vegas is a whole other kind of beating. They are so mentally difficult to play against. Constantly putting you in difficult situations and then capitalizing when you make a small mistake.

A team as young and (playoff) inexperienced as the Jets simply cannot be ready for such a situation. Doubly so when a lot of their veteran leaders are especially susceptible to making such errors.

I am proud of this team. They worked hard and never gave up. They just struggled to walk the tight rope between aggression and control against a savvy, well coached, and frankly, pretty damn talented opponent.

Losses are painful, but these kinds of experiences are necessary if a team is to go to the next level.

I will say that I am embarrassed by the conduct of many of my fellow Jets fans during this series, and in this thread. We have a good, perhaps great team on our hands. Shitting on other teams, and their fans, is utterly bush league. Shitting on the Jets players because they couldn't cash the cheques your mouth wrote is pathetic.

I've been cheering for the Jets since my Leafs bowed out. I'm an ex-Winnipegger (living in the Greater Toronto Area), but there was no Jets when I was a kid living in Winnipeg, so I became a Leafs fan. Congratulations Jets and Jets fans, on a great regular season and a great playoff run. What amazing fan support the Jets have. Bombers 1st pre-season game June 1. Go Bombers Go -yup, still a lifelong Bombers fan! Cheers.

They had a golden opportunity. They failed....miserably. There's zero excuses for getting beat in five games by that team. Edmonton won't be a tire fire forever. Minnesota will make changes. When you get this chance, it can't be blown.

In defence of the Jets’ Euro players like Laine and Ehlers being quite exhausted, in Europe, they don’t play an 82-game schedule and definitely not three rounds of playoffs.

That is a bullshit excuse.
Rulers is not a rookie, not even a sophomore, he is used to it.
Laine played a full season last year and the year before that played more than 80 games.

Disappointing to say the least but a good learning experience for the younger guys. We may never know but a few guys looked like they were playing tired or hurt. I think Stastny blew his load in the Nashville series; his line didn't do anything against Vegas, although I'm sure they were trying their best. And if it wasn't for bad luck, the Jets would have had no luck at all. That and a red hot goalie in the opposite end is what did them in IMO. And Vegas vs Tampa in the final excites me no end- time to spend outdoors anyways.
