Great game, glad I took a nap earlier so I could watch it! Nice to see Vegas lose and their fans leave early. I give this game five celebrations out of five...

Let's see more of that in Game Two...:thumbu:

The Prediction Contest for Game Two has already been posted and after tabulating the results...

Yes indeed, congratulations to @enuffidiotsalready for hitting the trifecta, by correctly picking the Jets to win 5-1 and Kyle Connor to score the opening goal. Way to go!

Also, don't forget to sign up to create the GDT for Game Two, just post a message in the Sign up for the 2022-2023 Season Thread to let me know...

Off to bed I go, good night all!
Oh my god GO TO BED GOOD MAN!!!!

Dominant performance tonight. I think Rick Bowness had his team playing the right way from start to finish, aggressive and responsible.

Dubois took charge, I wonder how much he relishes a head to head series with Eichel as a measuring stick. Top line made some big plays tonight.

Wheeler had a good game for an old guy.

Checking line was solid tonight.

Penalty killers, check.

Defense, smart.

Goalie: on.

I'd be surprised if Brossoit gets game #2, he was leaky tonight.

Good win for the team's confidence, I think they looked considerably quicker than Vegas, even without Ehlers.

Good job by the athletic staff to get Barron back out there, I've never seen a skate get caught between a player's visor and face before. Could have been worse...tonight's game showed how much players are willing to take a beating to win in the biggest stage.

Well worth staying up for.

Gustafson looked solid too. Solid defensively

Oh man Samberg was so good. Unsung star in a lot of ways. So many great small plays. PLD was excellent. Helle of course, clutch. Wheeler was great. Barron is a warrior. KFC was cooking. Happy Stenlund was in. Schmidt was fired up. JM solid. DDeM solid. PK on point.
Great all around team effort.

Keep the train going
Gustafsson and Samberg are stalwarts in the defensive zone. Both of them have such great anticipation on the penalty kill as well.

Schmidt actually hit the net a couple times, it was nice to see

I'm going to regret asking this but morbid curiosity gets the best of me, anybody got a picture of Barron?

If so, I recommend putting a spoiler tag on it.

As soon as I saw Connor lay a body check and Scheifele chip and chase I knew we were going to win. Haha they were focused tonight.

A huge confidence boosting win.
Almost like the team took a few months off to rest for the playoffs.

Must be a photo of him wearing a jacket?

One thought that occurred throughout the game is that Vegas just didn't look dangerous. Yet given their regular season standing, they gotta be, right? I'm trying to figure out what it was the Jets did to largely shut them down. Was it just the extra step in puck battles? Did our D suddenly figure everything out? Was there some brilliant Bowness game plan that my well-beveraged brain didn't pick up on?

The layman interpretation would be that the Jets just wanted it more. Or maybe that skill + effort (the Jets oft only embracing the former) can even overwhelm a well structured team like Vegas, and it was too much to handle.

Dunno, but it felt dominant.

What was clear to me though, is that unlike many predictions, Helle didn't have to go god mode to win that game for us (although he was excellent). Our skaters had it covered.

So take into consideration that I am irresponsibly tipsy for a week day. But I'm pretty pumped. What we just watched tonight is what brings all of us, even the forum jerks that annoy you ;), here to our little hockey geek community. Whether you're a optimistic fanboy, or a doom and gloom tank thread commander, what we all share is the joy of seeing our team play the way that makes us cheer, makes us proud, makes us believe.

This is what it's all about.
That feeling doesn't happen every day, and it is especially cool for the hardcore who stick around through thick and thin.

Thanks Jets, for at the very least, giving us this game.
