I'd also start Dobes. Here's the chance to see how he responds after a loss. The kid's got poise – it would be great to add to it.

That said, I doubt they will. It's Montembeault's turn and he's mostly earned it. Plus, he's our only proven starter. We need him if we have any chance at a playoff spot. No matter what we think of Dobes, we can't throw a full-time workload onto this kid's shoulders at this stage of his development.

Jets are a good team. Realistically, this is going to be ugly.

But, we have beaten good teams lately. We need a huge bounce back win here.

Jets are similar to the Devils. Habs will show up but we are facing a very good team.

Jets on a 3 game winning streak. At least they are not hungry for a W. They also have a good lead on the Stars in their division

Tampa Bay played better than us, but we won.
Detroit dominated us.
Devils played better than us, but we managed to get a point.
It's 3 bad games in a row.

We need to score first. Lately, we have played a lot of trailing games.
And the one game we jumped to a big lead (3-0 vs. Toronto) turned into the most embarrassing game of the season. Somewhere, a lesson is crying to be learned...

We need a win no matter how we need a win. GA has been a problem since blowing that Leafs game.
Win the next two on home ice and bring back the 2-1 win loss ratio for the month.

Lowry is on IR for the Jets. I think the Habs have a big advantage in the bottom two lines and also the 2nd line.

Not sure if we win or loose but the Habs will be in this game. Doubt it will be a 5-1 blowout.
Just an itch man, Saturday I predicted 4-2 loss. Hope I’m wrong and you’re right.

Here's hoping the Jets party in Montreal the night before the game. Or maybe they just play video games late at night these days.

Jets have solid D with goaltending but I feel the Habs have an advantage on lines 2, 3, 4 and the top line is neutral.

I understand. For this game, I feel the Habs will win. Jets have won 3 in a row and have a decent lead on the Stars. Habs have lost 2 in a row and will be hungry.

I'm not afraid of the Jets depth one bit. Habs should be able to take advantage in that area and we have a fair amount of practice time. Go look at the Jets 2nd, 3rd, and 4th lines. It's not scary at all. Devils have better depth than the Jets up front.

Is there a line when it comes to wins/losses percentages goals saved over etc. to be labeled a "proven starter"? Or do you just have to start games. Monty has been erratic and is currently being out performed by a rookie in the most important games we've had under this regime. There is nothing proven about him under these circumstances. New territory new measuring stick. Personally I think this is where Sam has to step up and prove he is a starter with consistent play.

I'd prefer we just play a good game from start to finish. Jets games have been a toss up this decade with each team having 1 more home win. We still have a few players who were part of that sweep and we always seem to compete well against them. We beat them twice last season and a win will earn us a split this year.

Habs have seemed to play the Jets hard since they've came back into the league. I expect this to be a good game.

MSL will start Monty. It will be another week or two before Dobes steals any type of job. They're always slow on the adjustments. Remember how long last year it took Slaf to get onto the top line (or this year for Hutson to supplant Matheson?)

If I'm wrong I will be happy because it'll be better for the team.

Incoming Laine hat-trick.

How's this: Montembeault's proven he can sustain a solid 1B level of goaltending. He can give us 40 games a season without falling apart, unlike the long list of backups we used to have who were barely competent. He ain't Carey Price, but he's a lot better than Mike Condon.

I agree we're entering a new phase where we expect more. Monty will either step up or be replaced. But let's be smart about it. Dobes has been terrific, but six games isn't enough experience to suddenly take on a full workload. Stamina is huge with goalies. So is confidence. I want to give this kid enough time and opportunity to develop.
