Series Discussion: Jets (C1) vs Blues (WC2) - Western Conference First Round

Bit of potential insider info from snooping around in the Blues sub-forum:

"I can't get into specifics but I have it on very good authority that Holloway is done for the year. Recoverable long-term. But not good. I'll leave it at that. We need to mentally move on as fans that he ain't comin back this yr."

They've looked a lot more beatable while Holloway has been out of their lineup. Hate to feel good about someone having a serious injury but on the other hand I think this greatly helps our odds of advancing.

Wasn’t he skating a few days ago? I thought I read somewhere that he was back in the ice (albeit not with the team).

Put the time on the title 5:00 central time Saturday.
I missed the first hour in tonight game … I thought the games in Winnipeg start at 7?

Hey awesome, I love CCR, thanks for the heads up, might go.

The chatter I've read from Blues fans is that Holloway is really critical for their playoff aspirations. If he's out I take no joy in that, I don't want us to win (nor lose) because of injuries, but it does seem like a major factor in the series.

STL has been better under Montgomery however their recent win streak, at least the magnitude of it, was propelled by super soft schedule. The Jets should stomp over them even without one of Vilardi or Ehlers.
I'm interested in how the defenses match up. Cam Fowler put up 3g, 19 a in 25 games after the 4 Nations tournament. A lot of Blues fans said he carried the team after Parayko went down. Might be the best low key trade of the year, in terms of impact for value.

I think the Jets have the edge at #1D with Morrissey over Parayko but the 2-6 will be key in this series. There's a lot more playoff success on the Blues side, every one of their starting 6 d-men have been to conference finals, 3 have been to Cups finals, 2 have won the Cup. Jets have to prove themselves here.

Centers Scheifele vs. Thomas is a pretty close matchup. I like Schenn over Namestnikov. But Lowry has to nullify one of those top 2 centers at home, with Appleton and whoever as his wingers, and Scheifele has to score more than his opponent. Doesn't look easy to me.

Binnington is a wild card. Psychologically he may have an advantage on Hellebuyck, but if the Jets get him off his game, there is a chance to win the series with goaltending.

I expect it to be a real hard fought series, some big hits, fights, everything.

My biggest concerns with the Jets going into the playoffs is secondary scoring. And PP. Hopefully Gabe coming back brings another element. The speed element with Ehlers can't be replaced until he gets back in there.

One of the biggest question marks I feel will be Scheifele. This season he has been great but I haven’t felt that’s he’s ever really been cooking out there, not like years ago when he was sniping so many goals. He needs to activate another gear for playoffs that isn’t just leveling a player like Evans.

I don't know this is his 2nd best year goal scoring wise ever. He slowed down a bit down the stretch but at one point he was on pace for 50+. I think he'll be as big a factor as ever. We won't go far if he isn't.
