Series Discussion: Jets (C1) vs Blues (WC2) - Western Conference First Round

This years Blues really aren't very close to that 2019 team. They are lacking that high end 1C like ROR was in his prime, Schenn was also a damn good 2C and in his prime. They had a tonne of sandpaper in the lineup with guys like Tarasenko, Perron, Schwartz, Maroon, Bortuzzo and Steen. And the biggest factor they had a true #1 D in Pietrangelo.

The 2019 Jets were also in a whirlwind of distractions with the Trouba and Laine situations. Roslovic and Copp also wanting out. It was a weird time.

The Blues aren't nearly as deep as they were in 2019 and the Jets don't have the distractions of 2019.

You could make an argument that Robert Thomas is better than Scheifele. I think they have to be on the same tier.

If you remember that series Schenn started on the wing. Sundqvist was 2C. Scored 2 goals in game 2. Barbashev was a thorn too.

To me 2019 came down to 2 things. Jets had a hard time getting ice against a Larry Robinson coached defense. And Trouba had no heart. Game 5 was a dagger. Jets defense got exposed for lack of footspeed.

The Jets weren't a tight team in 2019. They are now.

Some pretty crazy spreads on this series. 9 days between game 2 and game 5 at home. Could be the first series to start and last to finish.

We caught a break with the Monday start time. Probably be the early game with the Oilers being the late one. Leafs and Habs alternating the rest of the week. Stay up late Thursday night for game 3, if that game goes to OT Macmaroon will need to drink coffee right out of the pot.

He has been hot for a while now. With Vilardi likely back soon, you have to think Perfetti will be the one taking Ehlers rover position on the PP?

Big opportunity for him to make his mark this year.
Perfetti is my favourite Jet. I have a soft spot for undersized, super skilled shifty players with that lateral sneaky slick movement.
Totally different player but has some qualities like my all time favourite Zhamnov.
If Cole can stay hot for the run our chances go way up.

The Jets have had a great season and now they need to take the next step and raise their games for the playoffs. The injuries are hurting us already, but hopefully Vilardi is back soon and double hopeful that ehlers is back in this series.

This will be a tough series, so hopefully the Jets continue to play strong defensively, the PP keeps working, and Helle plays like he can.

Blues fans here on HF have been a good group over the years so hopefully the two fanbases remain respectful.
Keeps working? It needs to START working.
I don't have the stats in front of me but assume that our PP% over the last 1/3 to 1/4 of the season is no where near what it was earlier in the year.
Unless they've been intentionally playing possum it looks like whatever was working is gone.
How many 5 on 3's in a row have we gone without scoring?
Our biggest strength from the first half of the season seems to have become a bit of a weakness.
Vilardi and Ehlers out at the same time weakens the top unit and decimates the 2nd unit once we adjust the lines.
Having a very productive PP2 was our secret weapon in many games.

Other than Cuthbert, seeing that graphic exemplifies how god awful Sportsnet's commentators are.
Yeah it's a pretty weak lineup they've had years to fix. I'd be beating the bushes for some good local guys who want to make twice as much money with half the travel.
