We've always been ugly.

This game is a prime example of how far a mediocre coach can carry a mediocre core. Cassidy's systems are flat out working against the Jets, because they're structured, aggressive, and good. The Jets' only caveat is in goal, which means f*** all when your own players can't get to their net.

Cassidy’s systems would actually mesh with our team I think. Especially for Helle

Yup and factor in we are down our Norris dmen and two top 6 players. It's hard for us to weather that lack of depth. We have a player who was on Deteoits fourth line in our top 6 in Name. Nino us a middle 6 guy as is Wheeler.

Effort is such a lazy analysis, and excuse.

“If only they tried harder”

Bowness needs to tighten the gaps. They are looking for stretch passes far too often, and the gap between forwards/defenseman needs to be addressed.

Vegas has figured this out, and it’s largely stopped working since game 1.

We keep trying to get our shots from the Kyle Connor area. They almost never go through and the deflections don’t have a very good angle to go in.
We need more from the blue line in the middle of the ice. And of course with guys in front.

Mark Schiefele is supposed to be our best player and on many nights his effort is his biggest problem. All those times we see him gliding around the defensive zone not skating are a lack of effort, not skill.

The team has had effort issues all year but I don’t think they’re just “not trying” in the playoffs. They’re not able to get any offensive time at all, though. They’re desperately missing guys who can drive play in Ehlers and Perfetti. And now with Morrissey gone the offence has dried up entirely.

Still not sure why our best players (Helle, Scheifele, Dubois, Connor) haven’t done anything, though.
