I browsed through this entire thread. Not one overt negative comment about Wheeler being stripped of the C. Everyone pretty much supports it or at worst, is neutral. I know for a fact there are big Wheeler supporters in this forum who think he is a great captain. . One particular poster
who is often negative is conspicuously absent. I would be interested in hearing from the super big Wheeler fans but they all seem to be MIA.

Ya, I’m actually excited for this season.
I’m impressed with Bowness. I think this new coaching staff can infuse the right direction for this group to play as a team.
I’m guessing they tried to move 26 but the response was disappointing.

It's in the open that wheeler asked to be moved.

NOBODY including wheeler can be surprised that a guy wanting to bail on his team and the org can't be captain.

In my eyes, he relinquished the C the second he asked for a trade

Absolutely ridiculous. Either trade Wheeler or keep the C on him. The C matters so little compared to the disrespect of this move and the awkwardness this is gonna cause. How is Wheeler supposed to show his face to his teammates? He has been a great player for this team and the organization needed to do right by him by either trading him or just accepting his leadership.

Chevy dropped a nuclear bomb on whatever harmony there was left in that locker room. People justify so many of this organization's moves with "loyalty" but this is a complete disowning of that loyalty... to publicly disrespect a player who has been such a key part of this club for something that basically doesn't matter (who wears the C has minimal impact on the club's final standings).

And I had just changed my avatar this summer to Wheeler (with the C just happening to be prominent on his jersey) after a few years of that Jets fan facepalming avatar.

there's an account on twiter that tallied up player availability after Ws or Ls

More tweets by people who have no idea what they are talking about. Do people realize that who comes out for the post-game scrum is largely determined by whom the media requests? The press requests who they want to hear from postgame and the club tries to make that happen. This probably just indicates that the media didn't request him that much after losses, which makes sense as he takes losses to heart and is usually not in the best mood after a loss the press probably doesn't wanna deal with that.

Not to mention he has around 80 post press conferences accounted for when there should be like 250.

We’ve got a few ruffled feathers in there that we're going to have to flatten out before we get going,” said Maurice in late-April.

As if trying to be vague and ambiguous, he didn’t provide any further details or explanation.

Around the same time, Kevin Cheveldayoff — the team’s general manager — stated that he didn’t think that there were any ongoing issues within his club. However, he did bring up the potential for a change within its leadership group, according to McIntyre.

Gutsy decision by coaching staff. I like it Time to rough up the feathers Let Wheeler fade into the sunset. I appreciate the Wheeler’s early years as captain but this team time badly needs to go into a new direction Players who recently signed long term contracts and wants to be a Jet is my pick to be A That would be KFC MorriseyLowry Ehlers

Change was needed in leadership absolutely but I still feel somewhat sorry for Wheeler because in a sense he’s taking all the crap on his shoulders and Cheveldayoff and Chipman are taking none.
Maurice walked the plank on his own.
No action was taken to correct the situation until Maurice quit and by then the leadership issues were beyond repair.
The organization had a front row seat to the play and did nothing.
The post season was a PR disaster, Scheifele’s exit comments and some reports that he wouldn’t be coming back.
Wheeler being open to be moved.
PLD’s camp leaking his desire to be a Canadien.
Bowness has nothing to lose and has no history here so he is the only one who could have made this move with Wheeler.
I feel for Wheeler the person and I hope that a move can be made for him.
No matter what his role is expect nothing less than full effort that’s who he is.

You don’t change leadership in a locker room (if that was your goal) by taking away a C or an A…. You do it by moving leaders out you don’t want to lead to allow room for other to fill the void. Wheeler is still the silver back gorilla in that room with or without a letter….
