16 powerplays in the last 12 games …
From the beginning of the season until December 22, the Jets were:

Drawing 3.92 penalties per 60 - 6th highest
Taking 3.41 penalties per 60 - 12th lowest
Net of +0.51/60 - 3rd in the NHL
League average was 3.56 penalties/60 over that period.

Since then (Dec 23-present):

Drawing 2.06/60 (-1.86) 32nd highest
Taking 2.52/60 (-0.89) 4th lowest
Net of -0.46/60 (-0.97) 26th in the NHL
League average was 3.32 penalties/60 over that period (-0.24/60).

League-wide, penalties are down slightly (7%), but the Jets are down massively (47%) in penalties drawn. They're also down significantly in penalties taken, but that's just game management in action.

The gap between the Jets and the 31st-ranked team in Penalties Drawn per 60 is 0.31, which is the largest gap between any two consecutive ranked teams. By comparison, the average gap is 0.08.

I should also mention that the Jets drop of 1.86 is the biggest move in any direction for penalties drawn or taken/60 . Vancouver is +1.08, which is the largest positive swing in penalties drawn. Utah is -1.13 in penalties taken since December 22 (probably because they just played us twice :sarcasm: )

First game I've been able to see this week. Real nice to see the team out work Utah after what I heard happened on Monday (Was at the Sum 41 concert reliving my junior high years).

Happy Cole got over his scoring slump. Congrats to him and Ehlers on hitting new milestones.

We sit in a great spot with only a couple games to go before the break. Let's finish strong and really put an iron grip on 1st in division heading into the final stretch.

What's funny is if this was last season most of us would be happy because our PP sucked. I don't know how many times last season when the opposing team got a penalty i screamed decline it.

This will almost certainly sound ridiculous, but that Perfetti/Ehlers goal in the 1st reminded me of a Kurri/Gretzky goal with the insane cross ice pass and a quick adjustment one timer

Nik is an ace passer, as we're seeing on PP1, and that was a gorgeous play.

Great game, lovely to see Goal with the hatty, and Nik hit his 500th in a decisive win. Everyone looked good to me, Apples making plays on on2 foot, Sammy fending off pucks with his hand, JMo with fancy footwork outhinking again, KFC ducking and weaving, Stan with a sneaky setup for 55, Names with some fine possession play, DeMelo sharp as polished tacks and the 4th line crashing and banging, Gus potting one... First line needed a bit of a rest, and got one.

One of the feelgood games of the year, with a slight PO vibe in the pace of play if not quite the quality.

But honestly, who cares. As entertainment, with the good guys winning and several milestone storylines, this was a feckin' blast.

The Jets should draw more penalties, but PP opportunities is also at the lowest level in recorded NHL history.

And people wonder why players embellish.
Makes you wonder if the pendulum has swung back the other way on this one

Previously when a guyvwent down a little too easily, refanwould have erring on the side of making the call. After being made to look bad by some of those guys, now refs are erring on the side of not making the call

I think we've seen a few times recently where Nik has gone down and there was no call, even though there maybe should have been. He's known for going g down too easily

That said, it doesn't explain the disparity between the PPs the Jets have been getting recently vs earlier in the season

Avs fans were feeling that way about the Ehlers tripping penalty (for a clean hip check) late in the 3rd the other night. Their powerplay coach is the Brad Lauer of 2024-25.

Also when do the Jets get this PPs ... when they are losing?
Yesterday 's PP was the first time in awhile where the Jets got the first PP of the game or where the game was tied and I think that the only reason the ref called a penalty was because Scheifele went to the dressing room after the slash that was missed.
But this is what happens when you have a great PP and that goes for any team ... the refs don't want to decide the game so they don't call the penalties. We always here the crying Oiler fans about this when they lose.
