I agree not the Jets A game last night but i look at it like we are a good enough team talent wise that we can still win without our A game.

I only watched the first two periods and the Jets got so many high danger chances that I am not use to seeing. Our forward line would routinely attack their blue line, be given too much time and space, usually criss cross and get the puck to one of our players to shoot from an area that is pretty dangerous. Second line in particular seemed to be getting this done. Habs defend really poorly as a team. Sounds like they pushed back in the 3rd but after the second period I felt that game was going to end up 5 - 1 or 6-1.
Like Perfetti’s game, he is doing much better on his board work and pressure without the puck. He created some nice high danger chances slick plays.
I will miss Chibby when they send him back down. He looks NHL ready to me now and I believe he will be in the line up next season. I imagine the Jets would let Iafallo walk to free up that $4 million in cap space and replace him with a player like Chibrikov.
Nice to see Miller back in, he is a solid bottom pairing asset.
Helle is a gift and the only thing that is sad is one day he will retire. It’s easy to get spoiled having a goalie that elevates a decent but not special team up to the top of the standings.
I will never tire of watching Morrissey work his magic.
Our first line looked good/engaged but the Habs can have that effect. Gabe had a better game which is nice because he has left me wanting a bit this season.
Habs have some talent but they are still a ways off. Hutson is a very dynamic young D man and on the good side I like how he drives and supports the attack. The downside could be seen on the Jets second goal, extended zone time by the Jets as we transitioned from our 2nd line to our 3rd line we had them pinned down in their zone. Eventually Cole gets off the ice Nino comes on the ice takes the puck deep behind the Habs net, Lowry walked to the front of the net and Hutson stands there watching as Nino puts it on Lowry’s stick and Adam knocks it in while Lane kind of helpless. That play was everything “some fans” (hello TK) thought Toby use to give up because of his size but didn’t actually give up. Hutson needs to get old video of how Toby would defend the slot and deny high danger shots. Either way he is compelling and makes the game more fun to watch. I do like Guhle.
The Oh Logan report. Two smaller plays that I would like to comment on. The first was early in the second period Habs gain possession and have a random transition into the neutral zone, they shoot the puck deep into our zone on Stan’s side (smart) who was not flat footed just slow and the F1 skates around and past Logan beating him in a foot race and is first to the puck, Stan concedes the race but does come in a split second late and physically engages the Hab, as usual Stan loses that board battle and the Habs gain possession and begin their attack? This happens too often where Stan loses first touch to F1 then loses the battle. It would be ok if Stan beat the guy to the puck or even if he loses the race he uses his size to win that battle, but if neither happens as it often does his size and reach are kind of f***ing useless. He is shitty at board battles where the puck is at the feet and his height works against him. The second play that REALLY pissed me off happened right at the end of the second period. As the period was coming to a close Stan had the puck in our zone on his side and WAS NOT UNDER PRESSURE, as he was attempting to clear the zone he made an ill advised pass and turned the puck over just inside our blue line which lead directly to a high danger chance by the Habs as the period expired. Stanley will be 27 in May and this is his 5th season with the Jets. He has had 171 games now of opportunity to kick the door down, yet he is still a 7-8 type novelty act.
I far prefer winning to losing and especially to the Habs in our building.

Good post and i am seeing the same things as you with Stanley. I could live with it if he was only playing because Samberg is hurt but it looks like the Jets really want him in our bottom pairing.

They know what they have in miller and coghlan so they must be trying to see if Stan can be the big physical D for the playoffs.

They tried that last playoffs and he sunk a bottom pair with Samberg on it which is really tough to do. He was way too slow footed for the Avs. Once again he will be 27 when the playoffs start so what we see is what we get. It is HIGHLY probable he is not going to become something different.
One possible explanation they keep him around is to pick up the slack on fighting so Adam doesn’t have to do it all by himself. After the departure of Dillon Adam is otherwise alone on an Island. Stan is not much of a fighter but he is willing.

If stanley was a couple years in, or new to the team I could see that.
However he was drafted 8 years ago, and probably scouted for a year prior. So nearly a decade of being on this team's radar. Idk feel like everyone should comfortably know by now what he brings or doesn't bring

Yeah if anything Coughlin is the unknown who might be better than AHL calibre
The Jets nuking their own elite shut down 3rd pairing in the playoffs was probably not ideal in hindsight

Apparently the coaches see something in Stanley game that most don't. Personally I think he is playing ok unfortunately when he makes a perceived mistake it seems to get magnified.

Heinola has outplayed Stanley in everyway, and consider how rusty any player would be after missing so much hockey, it's probably good to be load managing him right now.
As far as keeping him as a physical player for the playoffs; he literally cost us in game 3 last year getting multiple penalties in a row when we were leading into the third. I like physical, but bad penalties ain't physical.
Another note. He's not a great fighter, which is totally fine, but if that's the reason he's on the team, he is not your guy. Having a D as a fighter is tricky too, because 5 minutes or more down a D is not great. If it's a 4th line winger in the box for 5, it's not a big deal.
We do have a bit of a soft team. You can see how teams take liberties on 55, 81, 44 and Perfetti. Adam can't and shouldn't be fighting unless absolutely necessary, he's a key guy. And, Adam can hold his own, but he is not a true fighter.
I'd rather have a really good D who can punish guys in the corner, like a Dillon type. And have a 4th line guy who is great on the forecheck, has speed and can really throw them if necessary.
I'm not a fan of staged fights or fighting at all, but if teams are taking liberties and out hitting us, it's certainly something to address.

As its stated on here many times, why not just grab another 3rd pairing Dman with some speed and physicality for the playoffs instead of trying Stan over and over when its clearly not working...
Not sure that Travis Dermott doesnt provide more grit and fighting than Stan - at least, Dermott doesn't fall down when he hits guys

These SN broadcasts are tiring, I get it Blah blah blah gotta appease the Quebec masses and Winnipeg doesn't move the needle but the Jets are in first overall and the Habs are a dumpster fire.
I like Coghlans one game, and it was against Vegas. Meanwhile, Stanley struggles with bottom feeders. Unfortunately RHD, although I'd have like to see some combo of Coghlan or Miller and Heinola.

I'm almost certain they will. Stanley had a good stretch of hockey toward the end of last season and I'm sure they were expecting him to build on that. Admittedly it hasn't really happened. I thought he was better last year than this season.......which is a concern. But, there's still almost 3 months till trade deadline.
Probably a TDL move.
Stanley is a PIMs and turnover machine. Brutal combo for a dman in the PO's.
