Difference between last year's Jets and the previous 2-3 years was that they finally started beating weak teams. In those previous years they would do well against good teams and let up against weak ones.

I had visions of that tonight, but they pulled it out in the end.

Had to like Scheif's 2 goals and Ehlers' 2 assists but the player who stood out to me was Fleury. He is trying to keep that job.

Helle looked good.

Connor just for a while now, is such a vanilla player. Floating around, on the perimeter… They won’t do a lot if he continues this trend.

Attended this one in person. It got loud like the old days when they tied it up. I genuinely miss that. That rink is such a funeral most games.
Yeah and what's with all those goals that Connor scores? They won't do a lot if he keeps doing that!

Pretty sure Ehlers only had 1 assist last night.

You are correct. And much as I love him, he stunk tonight. Honestly thought I was watching shades of Burmistrov. Yeesh, get it together man.

Pionk saved the game and upended Bedard. Seemed motivated and I enjoyed his game tonight.

Miller and Fleury both looked good tonight. Samberg was quietly solid. Morrissey struggled at points - quite odd.

Thought the Jets overall outplayed the Hawks, but they certainly gave up plenty of chances. Also thought Helle should have had the shutout and I'm guessing he's kicking himself over that goal, but he stopped lots of quality chances.

Felt like a trap game from the perspective of being there. After the 6-0 win against the Oilers it seemed the Jets came in taking the Hawks lightly. Some definite bad luck and good goaltending from the Chicago netminder and it didn't look good after the Hawks scored. Fefe butternipples with the pair though and we all go home happy.

That was my first live game in over 5 years.

It was a lacklustre game until Scheifele turned it up a notch...Who doesn't like the effort on the GTG.

So far 81-55-13 are playing to their strengths. Creating scoring chances.

2nd line is nearly invisible. Ehlers with 3 giveaways on backhand passes. But I like seeing him playing more between the circles. Perfetti to me is invisible out there. Auspicious start to follow an auspicious finish last year. Hard to say that Lambert couldn't add something to that line.

Arniel tried to break up 2/3 lines, which only led to more defensive zone time.

4th line had 3 dominant possession shifts where they were hungrier on the puck. Dogging it...play like that in the OZ bound to get a bounce or penalty drawn sooner or later.

Defense was nervewaracking.

On the defensive side I thought De Melo and Samberg were strong.

Morrissey was a little off tonight.

I can see why Pionk gives people anxiety. There was an audible gasp when it looked like he was going to get another own goal clearing the puck out of the crease. Lost in d zone coverage more than once. Pinch gave up the goal against. But it was a nice hit he got on Bedard. And his play as the last man back with an empty net, to win the board position saved the game. Though we all know who really saved the game. 1st star.

I am going to say so far I like Fleury's speed on defense and shot blocking more than Miller's shot. Which he hasn't used much.

Lastly Luke Richardson has a pretty good structure in place for the Hawks...they played well enough, certainly less defensive breakdowns than the Oilers.

I confess, I didn't watch:(
I was too busy, chaining and nailing down, a 12 foot skeleton, that some shit stains, tried to steal last night.
3 years putting the big guy up, never had this happen.

The neighbourhood kids, and their parents love it.

Well, if they try to pull him up this time, they'll need a tetanus shot, and more, if I catch them.
Rusty 12 inch nails, and chains, holding him now:)

So good on you Jets,
I'll catch the next one!

Gma... we won!

Well Scheifele is the 1C and Perfetti is a guy who ended the last season as a healthy scratch and plays 3rd line minutes... one player is clearly more important to the Jets success than the other. And I criticized Perfetti and that line during the GDT. Can't comment on every player in 1 post on the PGT. only the stuff that stands out.
Perfetti is standing out to me right now, i really hope this is just him a little behind the others because he missed some time during training camp because we need him to be way better.

Kupari is the standout to me in 2024. We might have a player here.
Yeah he's bringing a lot of energy and disruption. At the very least hopefully he's a prototypical 4th line center. He can win draws, PK, be hard on the forecheck and give us 10-12 minutes a night of low risk play.

That 4th line looks so primed to be a unit that can pot 40 goals while not giving up too much, that's a pretty good 4th line.

Fleury has some size too, 6' 4" 207 lbs
And he's good looking!!!

Really fun night out with my son. I love live hockey so much more than TV. Honestly I really struggle to watch it on TV but enjoy it more live than ever, even with less atmosphere.

Traffic getting to the arena is tough with all the road construction (way more than normal this year). It was 30 minutes from Panthers gymnastics gym and I headed down at 5:00pm.

The new entry process was great.

Seems to be more intestesting food options (maybe?) in the building but I didn’t really wander around and dabble.

First time trying True North square pre game and it was a reasonable atmosphere with a DJ going.

I do think TNSE is trying to add more fun around the venue pre game at least…….in game hockey is a tougher sport to add experience.

To the game…….. I think I am a bit rusty as a fan from an observation viewpoint but I have a few.

Samberg has improved allot and looks to be a solid top 4 option to me at least. Very good at gap, coverage, retrieval, board battles, and makes pretty good reads on zone exits. Tidy D man. I also like how he activates to push play and fill lanes on attack even though points will come at more modest levels that keeps him affordable and high value for what we pay.

Helle gave up one cluncker (I think he lost his net a bit) but other than that he is “the truth”. We all want him to stand on his head in the playoffs again one day but for now I take joy in watching by far the best goalie that has ever been a Jet.

Props to Chicago I thought the coach had them playing a good road game.

You could tell in the first period the bounces seemed to not be going our way. I think both Gabe and KC hit posts or cross bars and I was thinking…….is it going to be one of those nights?

Pretty choppy game that needed a goal to get going.

Glad we won. I don’t really care too much about who is playing with whom early in the season. I don’t worry all that much until we reach about game 10. There are ebbs and flows for all players and lines through out the season but everything is magnified when so few games have been played. For now I will take it as it comes.
