So, what's more unsustainable:

Us winning games where we get outshot 35-28 or Fourgiev keeping the .964 he put up against us?

Someone mentioned earlier that in the second half of the game our D were hesitating for just a split second before moving the puck out of our end. That is exactly what I saw. When our D are decisive and have the structure to pass to each other, we do fine just like in the first half of the game, when we hesitate for a second, Mac and company are all over us like a dirty shirt.

I really think that is at least a part of what we need to clean up when playing the Avs.

I should try and build a database of "goaliing and getting goalied" to see what teams are positive or negative on that on a season by season basis.

I assume every NHL team is on both sides of this kind of game pretty evenly throughout a season. Even bad goalies can find an insane game every now and then.
The shorthand method is to look at team SH% and SV% (and PDO).

The Jets are currently 2nd in SH% and 1st in SV%.

They're on a crazy run and - unpopular opinion - this too shall pass.

A fooling yourself type of win here for the Jets. The Jets were outhustled, and outclassed by the Avs. From the 2nd period forward, the Avs dominated the play. If we don't find a way to play the Avs better, they will repeat what they did to us in the playoffs.

You can't rely on your goaltender to perform magic, because eventually, shots start filling the net behind him. If we can figure out a way to play like we did in the 1st period, for all 3 periods, then I'll be convinced we're the better team.

Tonight the Avs were the better team, but our Goaltender gave us the win. Nice 2 points for the Jets, but clearly work to do on consistency, if your going to beat these guys in the playoffs.
I think their top line was better, but that’s the extent of it. We did fine against the rest of their team, but they play that top line a lot. That’s what we have to game plan for, other than that I’m happy with our play.

I thought the Jets were good in the 1st and ok in the 2nd. It was the 3rd IMO that the Avs were the clear better team so I don't share the opinion that the Jets didn't deserve to win. Sure Helle stood on his head for parts, but Georgiev made a 10 bell save off of Appleton (?) I think in the 3rd as well.

100% agree with all the comments about how the Jets coaching staff needs to find ways to deal with teams that bring a lot of speed and a heavy forecheck.

What are we, like 21-1 going back to our winning streak last year?

Even including the playoff series loss, the Jets are 22-5 in their last 27 games. That’s a .815 winning percentage, which would project to 134 points over a full 82-game season.

Over that stretch dating back to April 1st — including the playoffs — Jets are 3-4 vs the Avs, with a goal differential of -5.

They’re 19-1 vs everyone else, with a goal differential of +45.

If you think saying it has any effect on the result then you're not the brightest bulb in the bunch.
In 1950, Alan Turing noted: "The displacement of a single electron by a billionth of a centimetre at one moment might make the difference between a man being killed by an avalanche a year later, or escaping." So I'm pretty sure saying "shutout" is more than enough to affect the outcome of a hockey game. It's just science! ;)

Let’s be honest the reason this game was so close is Kyle Connor. If he finishes his breakaway I think Avs are over in first 5 minutes of game.
One Connor kept us in it, one Connor’s kept them in it.

The Avs may not even make the playoffs with their injuries and record.
Which is wild, because the way things looked last night (and thinking back to the last playoff round), the Jets would be in trouble having to deal with Colorado in another playoff series.

It's nice to get the W but that game simply didn't inspire a ton of confidence in the Jets as it relates to taking on teams with elite talent.

We didn't have our best game and I also think the Avs the way they are built/play aren't the best matchup for us. But they don't have the depth to outscore their crappy goaltending moat nights.

The Avs made adjustments and were the better team tonight.
Helle was even better, though.
Super positive was that Arniel was willing to blender the lines to get more stable defensive play from each line. Scheif and Connor together were getting caved in today, but both looked much better when the blender came out.

Wow I’ve never seen so much negativity about a win. This is the best start to a season IN NHL HISTORY!!

You know the Jets will lose some games this year right?

I can be happy about the result while also criticize the process. The Jets need to play better than they did last night. That's a fact. The Avs controlled way too much of the game for me to be comfortable with celebrating that win. I know the Jets can play better than they did. They have trouble with speedy, aggressive forechecks. That needs to be addressed.

Yes they do. Makar paired with their top line basically does whatever it wants against the Jets. Fortunately the Jets have one of the greatest goalies in recent history.
I freaking love this team to death but I want to see them tighten it up against speedy, aggressive teams and keep the pedal to the metal.

Nothing unpopular about that, it's just reality

I've been wondering what our results will look like once everything comes back to earth. I think our SV% should stay in the upper 10% of the league, but not sure about the SH%. I think historically as a team, we've generally been one to be outshot and still win because we've been able to shoot at a higher percentage than our opponents (duh lol) - both because of Helle on one side of the equation, and we seem to score from high danger spots more often

Does anyone have any idea how that Avs unit does against other teams top lines? I'm kinda curious, but also kinda too lazy to dig too deep lol

At the end of the day, when can we say "they dominate us when they're on the ice because they're just better players?"

Avs top line > any line we can ice

BUT

Our depth up front > their depth up front
Helle > their goalies

So if they want to beat us, they need to hope that their top line domination holds and our depth doesn't contribute and Helle shits the bed. That's EXACTLY what happened in April

We won't beat that team by Schief beating Mack head to head

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Powerplay where KC stayed out the full two minutes despite the rest of his line going off. It also has to be clearly with the coach's blessing as if KC just did it I can't see how he wouldn't be benched.

We really needed to finish our chances in the first period to take all the wind out of Colorado's sail. The Jets also definitely had those opportunities. I mean Connor our most prolific scorer had a clear breakaway and he couldn't put it away.

I wonder if Arniel and staff will do more of that - potentially rotating different forwards through just to give pp2 a bit more oomph.

Outside of Perfetti there really isn't elite puckhandling/ moving on that second unit.

wouldve been a different game if connor got that breakaway shot in the net in the first. Momentum wouldve been harder to work against. I think they saw our offence slow down, and took advantage of that for sure, to the point we had no choice but to play a more defensive game

I wonder what the result wouldve been if it were Comrie vs Annunen?
