Jesse's agent; Jesse won't play for the Edmonton Oilers ever again.

Jesse Puljujarvi doubling up; I won't play for the Edmonton Oilers ever again.

Denial response; This must be all some big big misunderstanding..it actually means Jesse will play for the Edmonton Oilers again. The quotes are wrong all wrong.

Poor Jesse is always very misunderstood. Its a new meme.

I doubt he ever plays again for the Oilers, but maybe, just maybe, people should care what was actually said. Or maybe that's wholly immaterial.

Seeing as Holland will be "heating up the phones" over the next couple weeks... what's a reasonable return for JP from other teams around the NHL...

Some names that I see out there that could be "reasonable returns"...

Grimaldi
Ho-Sang
Eriksson Ek
Zacha
Honka
Perlini
Malgin
Dal Colle
Lemieux

I would think something from that list would be similar value (although there's a few there that are likely worth more than JP right now considering JP is coming off injury/surgery and the trade me NOW demand certainly does nothing but lower his value as well).

Nurse didn't cry about developing in the OHL/AHL or insist to play in the NHL straight away.

Oh that’s right we’re not putting any of the blame on Chia who caved to the request of a 17 year old. Excellent management for sure.

Holland working to feel at home with Oilers

"He feels frustrated in what's gone in in Edmonton," Holland said. "Obviously there's three things: Can you talk him into coming back? Does he want to play in Europe? Or trade him? So I've got to settle that situation by the end of August. … I don't want to box myself into any situation, but I've got to find out what I think is going to be the best solution."
Ah so he'd prefer to know what needs to be done before camp...no shit. That doesn't mean he's trading him before then. Seems like he wants to have another talk or two with the kid.

Could also be argued that Jesse should have been given a similar development path to Nurse to work on his game. Not rushed into the NHL as the youngest player in the league. Jesse should have been playing his first NHL games last season if the Oilers had a clue. How bad would Nurse have looked if he would have been rushed into the NHL instead of being allowed to ripen in the OHL for two years?
I don't thin that's entirely the Oilers fault though. With that alleged hand shake deal to keep Jesse in the NHL by Chia and Jesse's agent, it would have been impossible to keep him in the AHL.

What you missed is Pulju cooroborating pretty much exactly what his agent had stated later. with his agent even going on at length about it. (but later recanting after his bluff was called by Holland)

I'm just saying benefit of doubt is dead at this point. Its quite clear what both were stating and neither had initially stated they were misquoted or anything.

The only people trying to attempt to say that Pulju didn't mean that are Finnish sources who haven't been all that objective.

If I was a member of Puljujarvi’s circle I would tell him to stop right now and think about what he is doing. His entire life to date has been spent working to reach the goal of playing hockey in the NHL. I get it ... he didn’t land in the best situation. He didn’t prepare himself properly to face the off ice hurdles. He may have even encountered some hostility/coldness from a few team mates who didn’t understand his personality. None of that changes the fact that he has/had an offer on the table for ~ 1 million to play in the best league in the world. He should think back to when he was twelve .... then ask himself what that little kid would want him to do.

There is absolutely zero concrete evidence that Chia caved to JP's demands. For a person who demands 100% proof at all times and uses that as a sole basis for almost every debate, you would think you would be more careful than to sling around unsubstantiated information

JP was deemed a consensus NHL ready pick. Chia starting him in the NHL was a given. There is no proof Chia was cornered into playing him

It's a rumour for sure, but it makes sense the way things have shaken out.

It's a rumor for sure, but it makes sense the way things have shaken out.

It's a semi rumor that also sounds as an excuse. It's a narrative started by someone

Chia was a desperate person. What we do know is that he admitted that. He blamed himself in saying he thought that a handful of younger players would step up way more than they did. He also said that 2 years running. I know alot of people want to limit that to Nurse and Benning...but who's to say he also didn't mean JP? JP was forced on the roster for 2 years also

Like I said, JP was a consensus NHL ready prospect.

It also makes sense that Chia was consistently looking for some miracle development to take place, the same way he did with a handful of other players..again, which he admitted

Peter Chiarelli has no impact on the decisions Jesse is making today. I'm not sure why you seem so adamant on deflecting anything negative that is pointed towards Jesse, despite the fact you're obviously willing to admit this is not an NHL caliber player.

I can't find a positive way to spin this current situation in Jesse's favor. He literally comes off as an entitled brat. And to add to that, the logic behind what he expects to happen in his favor relies on him making another NHL team and immediately succeeding--as if he's assuming his inability to stick on an NHL roster has absolutely nothing to do with his own lack of preparedness.

There's no shame in admitting that this kid is right out to lunch.

Hard to imagine there could be a more disappointing (in more than just the hockey sense of the word) high Oiler pick than Yakupov, but here we are.
Personally I'm much more disappointed in the Yak pick busting that JP.

JP was simply drafted too high and the scouts saw a better player there than there actually ever was. He should have went mid 1st and then the disappointment would have been less (and JP's sense of entitlement and ego would have been less as well if he wasn't chosen so highly at #4 and thrust into the NHL so early in his pro hockey career).

He would have had a slower development path ie Benson (who JP is similar in talent to rather than a prospect who is drafted at #4 overall).

All sides share the blame for this fiasco... the past Oilers management team, scouts, JP and his agent.

Now it's just down to Holland getting as much value out of this depreciated asset as possible BUT I think there's also value in taking what you can and moving a negative entity out of the org as this org has enough issues to deal with when trying to ice a competitive team.

They really don't need that negative cloud over the team as well and should only have players on the roster and in the org that are committed to the team and want to work their asses off to win in Edmonton.

I don't know why everyone is assuming that JP is dumb just because he picks his nose with his tongue. I've seen plenty of intelligent people lick the inside of their nostrils.

There is no way this guy doesn't use his powers to lick his nostrils now and then, and he seems like a smart guy to me.

There will be no proper offers until he skates again.

It sounds like Europe. Then people can see if he is able to play and how well. If he shows what got him drafted in the first place then the Oil will benefit.

If Holland dumps a fourth overall for spare parts it will definitely set the organization back if JP rebounds. Another bad trade. Another poor decision. Best to wait and see when/if he decides to grow up.

Yeah I should clarify that I think they're stupid, but this sounds like a desperation ploy and that they actually realize his NHL career is fading (here or elsewhere). He stays here another year and can't hack it, he's done. He goes somewhere else and can't, he'll probably have another shot and more money in the bank.
This is what I felt has been closest to the truth from the beginning. He can’t afford another bad year in Edmonton. It’s a hell of a lot easier for him to go somewhere else and hope things magically get better for him in an organization that might give him the benefit of the doubt for a while than it is to stay here, do what he’s told and put the work in. The parallels to Yakupov are depressing.

I’m not the one who has been claiming that JP made any demands. It’s just what everyone here has been assuming. Obviously if JP did in fact make such demands Chia did cave to them.

I could say that water is wet and you’d still find a way to argue about it

Nice straw man but you’re taking my comment way out of context. No where did I blame Jesse’s current situation on Chia lol. I have admitted many many many times that jesse has made stupid decisions and said stupid things and it’s his fault he’s in the situation he is in. But at the same time I am also able to see how poorly the Oilers have handled him up until this summer. I have also said many times that I love how Holland has handled this and wish Jesse would keep his mouth shut, show up to camp and fight for his NHL career.
