Well if you don't think he's going to demand that kind of money or close to it, your "walkaway point" doesn't really make sense.

Why would your walkaway point be for an amount that even you know won't be demanded? :P
Because that's how you prepare for major commercial negotiations. You set your parameters beforehand, even when it's extremely unlikely.

Ok so…. Anyone have any trade offers or value opinions?
I know it’s hard to do without contract info so assume it’s 1y @ 5.75 mil? )ish?)

How is Bratt better ? (He is my favorite Devil too btw) Tkachuk has averaged more points than him , is bigger than him , plays.more of a physical game than him & is a pest who can throw off other teams players.

Bratt edges him out in skating and maybe vission/passing ability but that's pretty much it. I love Jesper Bratt and want him to be a Devil for a long time but back to back contract headaches are making me open more open to trading him while we can. Every team passed up on him numerous times till we got lucky and stole him in the 6th round. He also went through some slumps earlier in his career where a call down to the AHL might have been warranted but the team never sent him down there. He has blossomed into a big piece for this team and was supposed to be a big piece to get us back into being a playoff team. This really sucks that he might force his hand out of here and if that's the case I hope other teams have alot of interest in him so we can get a good player back in return.

They did that for the arbitration case. Word is Fitz offered him along term deal but Bratt wouldn't take it and only wants a short term deal to hit UFA faster to land a big payday.
Not only wouldn't take it, never replied. Yes all rumors but Fitz has always said he's part of the core and wants him here
Don't think that has changed, maybe tomorrow it does

He's a PPG 24 year old star play driving winger. Think of guys like Panarin, Marner, Gaudreau, Kane, Ehlers. He tilts the ice.

He'd have way better counting stats over his career had he been given the ice time he deserved. He's been an elite 5v5 producer his entire career and makes everyone around him better.

Consider that Kaprizov got 5x9M coming off a less productive season than Bratt just had, and they didn't fire Guerin....

I'm not saying he's going to demand that kind of money.
Generally you are a good poster. But Bratt is not better than Tkachuk. Tkachuk actually has substantially better possession numbers than Bratt. Not just this past season either. Every season except one.

I like Bratt, but he didn't put up 100 points, he's small and no sane GM pays him 9 to 10M. You're comparing him to guys who have hit triple digits and 40 goals. Bratt has one 20 goal season, no 30 goal seasons and hasn't even hit 80 points yet.

I do like his style of play more than Tkachuks too. I think it's more valuable, but it's not more rare and he's orders of magnitude less productive.

My walkaway point would be $9.75M AAV on a 8 year deal.

Hopefully we can get him for 6-7.5M but he's worth a ton. Just look at what Tkachuk got - and Bratt is better.

The perception around here seem to think he isn't as elite as his numbers suggest. If that's true with the league as well, then devils can probably get away with paying him a bit less than what he is worth.

the problem with trading him is it would be in the Devils' best interest to move him for a similarly valued winger, They really cannot afford to trade him for picks or prospects.

would the Sharks do Bratt for Meier (assuming contracts got sorted)?

Not really. He would still be a RFA, then we can offer him an 8 year deal after. Sounds like he wants out though which is super weird IMO

I'm sure Fitz wants to have a third hard negotiation with Bratt's agent when he's been playing hard ball the first two times + Bratt would have all the leverage a year away from UFA. If he doesn't sign something within the next 8-9 hours long term, he's most likely done as a Devil.

Having 2 yrs is a far better justification than 1.

you try to sign him to something longer there is too much risk. Not just from the production meeting the contract but knowing what the cap will be like in 2-4 yrs when other players need to be signed.

2 is even worse, he walks as a UFA

This thread is for trades not arguing over how much he is worth or how much he should get paid. Also Please look up how arbitration works before commening that the Devils are "lowballing" him.

No. A 1-year deal or arbitration award effectively ends Bratt's tenure in New Jersey.

He'll just accept the QO or go to arbitration again next offseason, walking straight to UFA.

Assuming Bratt will sign for 6 or 7 years in Detroit, maybe something like...

Jakub Vrána
Michael Rasmussen
2nd round pick

for

Jesper Bratt
Andreas Johnsson

I’ve already kind of accepted the fact he’s gone tbh. At this point he needs to be dealt for a similar player coming back. Idk if it’s just his agent or Bratt as well but Fitz shouldn’t have to beg and plead for a contract every time. Weeks to care modes about money than anything else

Fiala is a pretty good comp for Bratt, but Bratt is younger. There would have to be a 1st plus a really high end prospect or young roster player coming back at least.

That's funny, because he's actually better than his numbers suggest. Nothing about his production suggests it's not very easily sustainable.
